If you don't want wicked fast this is what I did a few years ago. 1995 Yami XT225 , street legal dirt bike. Will only top out around 65 mph but thats with the front sprocket geared down one tooth, making it unstoppable in the woods and a blast to ride. Picked mine up for about $1200 with a couple thousand miles on it.
Not as likely to hurt yourself with it so you screw up snow season either.
