Inexpensive good used dirt bikes

That works unless you have a lift on your truck. Plus it's hard to unload them with that. I bought a ATV ramp that folds up, and it made my life a whole lot easier.

Well my father-in-law is tall so that helps.

Otherwise I just use 2 boards when I load into the truck myslef(stock gmc, no lift). One ramp for the bike and one for me to climb.

I've used a Floe tri-fold ATV ramp, even on a truck without lift, it was hella steep since it was so short.

I imagine if you found a longer ramp it would be better, then you could just hop on and coast the bike down. That would take away worrying if you have your tire lined up to the 2x6 or if it's gonna drop off halfway down.

Yep, i just use my . Have it already, wide enough to walk a bike up with, long enough that it's not a real steep incline. Folds up small enough that I can fit it and the bike diagonally in the bed of the truck and still shut the tailgate.

huh...the sled ramp would come in handy too

Oxlite ramps are rather $$, but they're real nice. Light and sturdy. Make sure to use the straps to tie the ramp down when you load up a sled. And stay off the plastic when you're walking on the ramp, they're real slippery.

Makes getting furniture into and out of the truck easier too.

These old KLX 650R's are not too bad of a bike never had any problems with this one and I think its a 94.

KTMs are really sweet bikes, but if you are looking for something a little cheaper you can find late model 2-strokers. I have a 2003 CR250r. While there are smoking deals on KTMs, when things do go wrong with them it is a little harder and expensive to get parts. With 2 strokers parts are easily found on ebay and other sites. Craigslist is a great place for deals too.

As for ramps, I have one of those carriers that go into the receiver hitch. I have a 6" lift on my truck so using a bike ramp isn't in the equation.

^^^^ another great option.

ride with a few guys with the receiver hitch deal. Just watch out for the right bar banging the tailgate or back window if it's an SUV. Usually a towel and an extra tie down will solve that problem. Or a busted window will lead to the extra tie down and the problem getting solved.

I went riding today with the boy. The old XR ran good....still gotta put on adrenaline junkey's carb he sent. :D

I gotta get a new tire for it and Im thinking a new chain and sprockets. Is there a cheap online site for this stuff?

go for a newish honda cr150r, its crazy fast, but a 2 stroke, it'll keep up with the 250 4 strokes no problem

all right crazy bastages!!! LMFAO ...ya gotta read the thread...I bought an old XR. :beer;:beer;

Go to (and join) thumpertalk...They will match any price on parts.
I also have had good luck with motorcycle superstore (on-line)
For parts local go to Jones' Motorsports on the N. Yellowstone highway
across from the JohnDeere dealer...If they don't have what you need they can get it in a day or two out of Boise....I also let them mount the new tires
(used to be $5)...well worth it!

+1 for Thumpertalk.

Ordered from DennisKirk.com and Motorcycle-Superstore.com in the past, both good sites. DK's got a real good return policy, even include a paid return shipping label.

There's a few KTM dealers locally that aren't too bad either. Fay Myers (Good parts/gear selection, salesmen are kinda pushy), Sun (-Huge- parts dept.), and Elite (Good knowledge, but less parts/equipment in stock).

thanks tech....ya I know of Jones Motorsports....they screwed me over on a sled about 10 years ago, but I have been giving them a chance again recently. I will let them mount my tire....my brother told me the same.

thanks Mule....I have Dennis Kirk saved as a favorite, but I will definitely check out the other one!

another vote for Dennis Kirk(hey it's MN based). Also check out bobscycle.com or look up thefullmonte on here he works at Bobs.

Also another vote for letting the shop mount your tire!

Congrats on acquiring the XR ... those air-cooled red rides are bullet-proof!

These guys are an awesome place to buy from online ... and free shipping if your order is over $99.00.

If you don't want wicked fast this is what I did a few years ago. 1995 Yami XT225 , street legal dirt bike. Will only top out around 65 mph but thats with the front sprocket geared down one tooth, making it unstoppable in the woods and a blast to ride. Picked mine up for about $1200 with a couple thousand miles on it.
Not as likely to hurt yourself with it so you screw up snow season either.

Good Luck
