Inexpensive good used dirt bikes

I know some of you told me this before on a different thread, but I forget. :D I am looking for a good used dirt bike....fairly inexpensive. I would prefer a 4 stroke. Griz I know you gave me a couple ideas.

I would try cycletrader.com alot of guys selling some nice bikes for decent prices in there. If you want a 2 stroke and can live without a 4 stroke I have seen some really nice 08 yz 250s with really low hours sell for $3k. Used MX bikes dont hold their value very well. I would also check websites that specialize in selling crashed stuff. I found a mx bike at crashedtoys.com 2 years ago that needed a sub-frame, pipe, and fender and it was good to go. Picked up the bike for $1800 and sold it for $3500 after sticking $400 into it. I know there are some bank repos on sites like that as well.

thanks Zach! that was some great advice!

cragslist.com!

i got a 05 ktm 300 2 banger for $2500 and its the fastest bike i have evr been on! IMO, get a ktm, they seem to hold their value better.

if cheap is the main thing, go for a smoker.

if you don't need displacement, 125s or even a ktm 200.

agreed on crashedtoys...my dad has bought several things off of them. Can find some pretty easy fixes for the right price usually! Kind of a drive though...

^ Seconded.

Check out the dealers, they're lookin for anyone willing to buy a machine. I got an 07 KTM 525XCW about 2mos ago for ~$3.5k.

KTMs are a little more up front, but they're good machines and as mentioned above, will hold value better than a kawahondayammuki.

Ktm 200's are great inexpensive bikes. Any ktm would be a good reliable bike. What are you looking to do with it?

thanks peeps! i appreciate it! i am looking to do mostly trails and climb some narly chit :D

im not into dune riding much

My father-in-law rides a KTM 200 and the thing will dang near climb a tree in first gear.

How big are ya?

If you want a bike ready to hit the trails with minimal tweaking, get a KTM. Put the front tire where you want and just go.

I am 6'2" and weigh 215.

2000.00 and its your's. bought it when I got out of the N@&y built it crash proof. then rode it for one year (ok i'm a looser) had kids and parked it.

chit I have been getting a lot of good offers on bikes from you guys! I am seriously considering all of them....thanks

look at the KTM 300. Probably one of the most popular trail bikes around as far as 2 strokes go.

I've never rode one, but every thread I've ever read has been nothing but good. People that own them, seem to think there the best bike ever built. I wanted a 4 stroke, so I went with the KTM450sx. That bike flat out rips when you crack the throttle. Great in the dunes, and track, but I'm not too sure how good it would be with only the 4 gears. I wouldn't trade it for any other bike right now.

Just make sure you get the E-start. It's worth it's weight in gold IMO! You'll know what I mean after the 1st time you lay it down. At least with a 4 stroke.
