What a spectacular day on the mountain!
Got to Big Springs warming hut just before 10:30 and the place was mostly deserted.

Rode up Fish Creek Trail to Black Canyon Loop and then up to the top of the ridge. First time I can remember being there in 5 years where there was NO WIND and NO CLOUDS. We had blue skies and fabulous snow. A good foot of fresh with no tracks to be seen anywhere.

Just made for a spectacular day !!

And it was about 25 degrees all day long as well.

It was cloudy, overcast and foggy when we were loading to go, so I left my camera at hime.

Jan. 25, 2011--7 AM UPDATE--We've had approx. 6" the last two days at Macks Inn with
approximately 6 feet on the ground there now, and over 8 feet above 9,000'. There are
hundreds of miles of beautifully groomed trails to ride. Off-trail conditions are fairly "firm" on
a settled, dense snowpack. However, there are areas of "sugar" that you can spin down
into, if you aren't careful.

Feb. 5, 2011--7 AM UPDATE--We've had approx. 4" to 7" of snow in the last 24 hrs. with
more on the way the next couple of days. There is approximately 6.5 feet on the ground at
Macks Inn now, and around 8 feet above 9,000'. There are hundreds of miles of
beautifully groomed trails to ride. Off-trail conditions are fairly "firm" on a settled, dense
snowpack. However, there are areas of "sugar" that you can spin down into, if you aren't
careful.

As of 7 AM--Feb. 5, 2011:
4" to 7" of snow fell in the last 24 hrs.
We have 7+ feet of pack above 9,000'.

Off-trail conditions are fairly "firm" on a settled, dense
snowpack. However, there are areas of "sugar" that you can spin down into, if you aren't
careful.

Does this mean that snow is like a rock and if you spin down and break through the rock you'll hit sugar?

Does a person need extra hyfaxs to get to the "sugar" or the four inches of new snow?

Spent the entire day between Two Top and Black Canyon yesterday.

New snow varied from 6-18 inches depending on where we were playing.

The base is VERY FIRM.

Darn near impossible to get stuck unless your just totally careless and try to trench yourself in (and this coming from a guy with a Nytro).

Saturday was a great day to be out on the sleds.

Almost no wind, blue skies, and plenty of good snow to be found once you got off the beaten path or back into the trees!

Feb. 10, 2011--7 AM UPDATE--No new snow in the last 24 hrs. There is approximately 5.5
feet on the ground at Macks Inn now, and around 8 feet above 9,000'. There are hundreds
of miles of beautifully groomed trails to ride. Off-trail conditions are fairly "firm" on a settled,
dense snowpack. However, there are areas of "sugar" that you can spin down into, if you
aren't careful.

As of 7 AM--Thurs. Feb. 10, 2011:
No snow fell in the last 24 hrs. We have 8 feet of pack above 9,000'.
