We'll got back yesterday from are 3rd annual tree bashing at Island Park, and it was a good time. Snow was good just as it has been told 6 to 18 inches of powder and with a very firm base. The only way you got stuck was to do something stuiped even then it was fun. After this weekend they do need more snow as the snow is getting all tracked up. If you stay in the trees or close to them there is still good snow. Just the hills and big open areas are getting hit hard, if you are willing to do a little tree bashing you can find parks to play in where nobody has gone. We mainly rode Sawtelle and Mt Jefferson like I said was good time, not sure how any of the other riding was elsewhere. Well pray for more snow be back to Island Park for winter expo for more tree bashing.

Feb. 18, 2011--7 AM UPDATE--1" to 6" of snow fell in the last 24 hrs. and 6"to 14" in the last
48 hrs. and it is still snowing this morning. There is approximately 6 feet on the ground at
Macks Inn now, and around 8 feet above 9,000'. There are hundreds of miles of beautifully
groomed trails to ride. Off-trail conditions are fairly "firm" on a settled, dense snowpack.
However, there are areas of "sugar" that you can spin down into, if you aren't careful.

As of 7 AM--Friday Feb. 18, 2011:
1" to 6" of snow fell in the last 24 hrs.
and up to 14" in the last 48 hrs. We
have 7 to 8 feet of pack above 9,000'.

Saturday turned out to be a very good day on the mountain.
While there were LOADS of tourists out riding, I was very surprised by how much fresh untracked powder we were able to find just a mile off the main trails.

The great thing about the tourists is that they seldom venture very far off the beaten path leaving PLENTY of good snow for the rest of us who are willing to ride just a little bit further over the hill..

Feb. 21, 2011--7 AM UPDATE--1" to 7" of snow fell in the last 24 hrs. There is
approximately 6.5 feet on the ground at Macks Inn now, and 8 feet + above 9,000'. There
are hundreds of miles of beautifully groomed trails to ride. Off-trail conditions are fairly "firm"
on a settled, dense snowpack. However, there are areas of "sugar" that you can spin down
into, if you aren't careful.

Rode for about 7 hours yesterday in IP.
Almost all of it up on the Black Canyon Loop.
Found MANY areas with 24"++ of fresh powder on a very solid base.
Rode till we were wiped out.
Nothing short of a SPECTACULAR day, and that was with some very high winds and low visibility conditions at different times..

Feb. 22, 2011--1 PM UPDATE--1" to 15" of snow fell in the last 24 hrs. We are getting reports
of 12 to 15 inches of new snow in the Macks Inn area.

Apparently there was a heavy band of
snow last night from the Centennials east to Black Bear. There is approximately 7'+ on the
ground at Macks Inn now, and 9 feet+ above 9,000'.

There are hundreds of miles of beautifully
groomed trails to ride. Off-trail conditions are fairly "firm" on a settled, dense snowpack.

However, there are areas of "sugar" that you can spin down into, if you aren't careful. I was out
shoveling a roof all morning for a neighbor, and there is about a foot of depth hoar in the shade
at ground level, and the slabs are VERY HEAVY. You would not want to get tangled up in an
avalanche, with the volume and weight of snow I shoveled this morning!!

Yesterday was a mellow riding day.
First chance I have had to take my two younger children out for a ride.
Spent the day around Mesa Falls and in those large open fields on the way to Warm River Springs.

Even down low, there was acres and acres of UNTRACKED snow.
Sometimes I forget just how much fun you can have in a big meadow down in the lowlands.

It doesn't always need to be the Steep and Deep.

Just hearing my little 10yr old girl screaming as we rode over the hills was joy enough for me!

As of 7 AM, Wed. 3/2/11 it is mostly cloudy and 18 degrees at North Henrys Lake. No snow has fallen in the
last 24 hours. Winds are ESE at 4--5 mph at H enrys Lake, and are 10--22 mph on Lionhead.
