IDAHO: Island Park/West Yellowstone 2010/11 Snow Reports

Spent the day riding on the black canyon loop once again.
The snow was SPECTACULAR.
24-30 inches of fresh DRY DRY DRY powder.

None of the trails had been groomed, and there were plenty of drifts to bash through, but the untouched DEEP snow was worth every moment of it!

Today would be simple FABULOUS for riding!

As of 7 AM--Dec. 31, 2010:
A Traceof "fluff" fell in the last 24 hrs. and 10--30" fell in the last 3 days. We have 7 feet of pack above 9,000'.

in west yellowstone right now, recommend faithful street inn. i will be certain to tell you where we found nipple deep powder today...as soon as we get on the road home. all i have to say is that i have never ridden on more terrible moguls but the reward was great. thanks to the guys from mn who showed us the powder. if you want to be humbled, ride with a guy on a 09 iq 600 show you where he can put it on command. one more day of riding and i will let you know where you can ride in powder like no other.

Spent 4 days in West Yellowstone over the weekend on the SnoWest Forum Ride.

Snow was GREAT.
We are having a spectacular year/season right now.

It snowed every day, and there was unlimited untracked fresh powder EVERYWHERE we went.

Its hard to say just how GOOD it it right now!

Can't wait to get back out this weekend!

MLK WEEKEND

Didn't make it to Forum ride but did spend the weekend in IP. Wifes boss owns a cabin on Bills Island.

Headed up on Friday night. Pickup pulling a trailer rearended a snowplow on the Ashton Hill. Closed the Highway for 2-3 hours. Finally got up the hill. 4 low and about 10 mile /hr. Never got over 30 after that.

Spent most of Saturday trying to get into Mount J. Made it to the south end of Hell Roaring and got turned around by the fog. Bunch of guys that hadnt been there before. Didnt want to chase em down in the fog.

Turned around and headed back to the cabin. The powder was awesome. So we tried to boondock straight back to the cabin. Got stopped by Centennial Creek (I think, not sure exactly) It wasnt frozen over and quite wide to try crossing. I finally hopped the little 500 I was riding across a narrow gap. (my son was riding my new Pro)

I made it across with no problems. Bryce on the other hand didnt quite make it. Between not enough throttle and some ice breaking when I crossed, he had a ski catch and it spun him sideways down into the creek. Luckily he didnt get hurt but after a bit of wading in the water him and I were able to get his sled back onto the level on the far side of the creek. After seeing him try to play submarine everyone else rode back to the rode and crossed the creek there.

Finally made it back in one piece with every one in tow.

By Monday we had gotten about another 8 inches of new snow. Took the boys 13-15 YO out for a short ride to let them work on carving. Man it was a blast.

Would have been nice to hook up with you guys but I'll have to work on that next time. This one had to be doen to keep the ol lady happy. Cuz everyone knows that if mama aint happy aint nobody happy.
