Tampico update - LINK TO GROOMER EVALUATION FORM
I talked to the groomer on Monday night, said he was going to change the schedule, and send me a copy so I could post it. So far, nada. I also asked that he take the sled with the wood up to the cabin at Treephones, said it should be this week.
Spyder73; grooming meetings are the 1st Wednesday of every month at the Naches Ranger Station (see Fordman above). Same answer I gave further down this thread on 01/08/2010. Attendance for these issues only helps.
You can go on the state parks website and file a complaint/complement on their winter recreation tab (hope this works!)

Our current groomer had
no complaints last year according to State Parks and Rec. Get your comments in!! They prefer handwritten, and form letters would not be accepted. If you send a comment in, post that you
sent one in here on sno-west so we will also have a record of it. You can also give it to me at the grooming council meetings.
Keep a copy!
Yesterday we went to Olympia for
WSSA's All Trails to Olympia Day and met with our legislators and Pete Goldmark of the DNR. No good news, and I thought we would have had better attendance (and I posted this also), considering all the problems we have had
. However, a State Parks and Rec person in attendance was very strait forward in his interpretation of the perils to the Ahtanum area. I highly anticipate there will have to be an additional revenue source for DNR funds next year, whether it be another round of fund raising (like the ski-benders of this season), or some type of fee system.
Extortion, yes (quoted from a local state senator, and right on the money), but probably reality.
Since Sunday afternoon, there has been an additional 3-5" of snow; I hope to ride on Friday and post conditions, although I will probably go up the Jackass road. The Jackass (until the gate past Nasty Creek Flats) and Red Saddle roads were groomed last weekend. As you are aware, middle fork down from treephones was rough; FYI, when my boy and I ride, we bail off a lot, so
please post conditions as you see/feel/get launched/chiropractic services - them.
The solution to the grooming problem is not that simple, and I frankly am still finding a way to put it down. With the DNR fiasco, and the potential loss of the area
IF we do not continue to raise funds like last year (we are still slightly short for this year), who would want to buy a groomer, compete for a contract, and then have the area not open?
Bottom line, to keep and improve the Ahtanum, we have to be involved, vocal and willing to spend time at the state level. Nothing is cheap anymore.
Have a good one,
Tampico
