How's Tampico?

excellent day at Tampico today! 11/2 to 2 feet of fresh in some places. My 153 M8 was having a tough time on some of the hills:D

Been out of state-

Sorry for no updates, been out of state on business almost all of last week, but as usual, when I leave, it snows! Forecast says more on Sunday eve-Monday, kid and I hope to ride on Sunday. Roads are good and clear though going up.

1/22/10 Ride

We went up yesterday (saturday - 1/23/10) and we got there about 10:00 AM and the both lots were full so we had to get creative for parking. Snow was awsome, a good bit of new. It was very interesting, had a sled catch on fire and melt an oil supply line & burnt the recoil rope off so our day ended quick. I would say 8"-10" of semi-fresh snow. PM8.

Hey Tampico, any word on GROOMING?????? Still pretty beat up from Sunday's ride and headed up Wed, hoping for some smooth roads:face-icon-small-dis, probably have a better chance of winning the lottery. Not taking anything out on you but WTF, is Mason going to get three full grooms in this season? I really hope someone else steps up and we are able to get rid of his worthless company. He has made way too much money for doing absolutely nothing.. Can you please tell me when and where the groomers meetings are?

Some of the folks I know and ride with are not in the greatest health and its really nice to get them out of the house and up to the mountains, but terribly difficult to do when the trails are always so beat up.

Thanks, again please dont take this the wrong way, I, and Im sure others, really appreciate your updates and info.

Groomers meeting is the first Wed of each month at the Naches Ranger Station at 7 PM - rear entrance.

Figures, I went up to Revelstoke this past weekend and it sounds like it started snowing here.... same routine as last year, no appreciable snow for a month, then head for Revy and it starts snowing again, haha.... oh well, just glad it is snowing again.:D

Tampico update - LINK TO GROOMER EVALUATION FORM

I talked to the groomer on Monday night, said he was going to change the schedule, and send me a copy so I could post it. So far, nada. I also asked that he take the sled with the wood up to the cabin at Treephones, said it should be this week.

Spyder73; grooming meetings are the 1st Wednesday of every month at the Naches Ranger Station (see Fordman above). Same answer I gave further down this thread on 01/08/2010. Attendance for these issues only helps.

You can go on the state parks website and file a complaint/complement on their winter recreation tab (hope this works!)

http://www.parks.wa.gov/winter/On-Site%20Evaluation%20Form.pdf

Our current groomer had no complaints last year according to State Parks and Rec. Get your comments in!! They prefer handwritten, and form letters would not be accepted. If you send a comment in, post that you sent one in here on sno-west so we will also have a record of it. You can also give it to me at the grooming council meetings.Keep a copy!

Yesterday we went to Olympia for WSSA's All Trails to Olympia Day and met with our legislators and Pete Goldmark of the DNR. No good news, and I thought we would have had better attendance (and I posted this also), considering all the problems we have had:face-icon-small-fro. However, a State Parks and Rec person in attendance was very strait forward in his interpretation of the perils to the Ahtanum area. I highly anticipate there will have to be an additional revenue source for DNR funds next year, whether it be another round of fund raising (like the ski-benders of this season), or some type of fee system. Extortion, yes (quoted from a local state senator, and right on the money), but probably reality.

Since Sunday afternoon, there has been an additional 3-5" of snow; I hope to ride on Friday and post conditions, although I will probably go up the Jackass road. The Jackass (until the gate past Nasty Creek Flats) and Red Saddle roads were groomed last weekend. As you are aware, middle fork down from treephones was rough; FYI, when my boy and I ride, we bail off a lot, so please post conditions as you see/feel/get launched/chiropractic services - them.

The solution to the grooming problem is not that simple, and I frankly am still finding a way to put it down. With the DNR fiasco, and the potential loss of the area IF we do not continue to raise funds like last year (we are still slightly short for this year), who would want to buy a groomer, compete for a contract, and then have the area not open?

Bottom line, to keep and improve the Ahtanum, we have to be involved, vocal and willing to spend time at the state level. Nothing is cheap anymore.

Have a good one,

Tampico

Tampico, Fordman, Thanks for the info. Went up today and the snow was awesome, had an absolute blast. Naturally, no grooming and its the same as Sunday, ok probably a little worse. Anyway talked to some guys who came up on Jackass and they said that it was smooth, but besides the chity grooming, get up there soon, and dont forget the kidney belt, again the snow conditions were SWEET-even got some sun. Best ride of the year for me, so far.......

went up today and had a great day. Took some new guys up today and the snow was about right for that. not too much fresh but not bad either. The trail got a bit rough past tree phones but not too bad.

Good Day-Friday Ride

My son (school in-service, he was not skipping-really) and I rode Ahtanum today, Jackass, Foundation Ridge, down to Little Lake (between Dead Hole and Green Lake), back up to the cabin at Blue Slide, back down to North Fork, up Whites Ridge, down to Middle Fork and out. Lots of climbing and playing, about 57 miles total. Lots of untouched snow (at least before we got there:face-icon-small-hap).

Jackass was groomed and is good, same for North Fork. Middle fork was rougher due to higher use, but not to bad. The groomer still has not given me the updated grooming schedule. I will post it when I receive it.

Snow is finally sufficient to avoid A-arm-taker-outers, and we had good snow conditions, really good on the northern-facing slopes.

The groomer operator has informed me that the firewood has been taken to the cabin at Treephones; lets make sure its gets used there.

Was fairly mild today, we should see a little more snow above 3600' tonight and tomorrow morning. I plan on riding again on Sunday, will post conditions again if major changes.

Have a good weekend,

Tampico

Buddy and I are going up tomorrow, thanks for the update Tampico. I'll post when I get back. Someday I'll have to have someone show me some of these places I keep hearing about. About the only places we go are either strait up past tree phones or take a left there and wrap around to the super bowl and down through the little bowls and out. Sounds like there's alot more than I'm seeing.

Last weekend no scratchers were needed. there was enough snow you could ride off trail a just couple miles from the park.

Spook222,
