How's Tampico?

Quick update

Is currently lightly snowing here (21:10), with mixed freezing rain. We have had a whopping .5" in the last hour. Hey, its snow, and that is a positive!!

I did hear a report that the groomer made it up to treephones, but not much further. I can't account for its accuracy. Hopefully someone else can post tomorrow evening on how far he was able to get. He does groom at night sometimes, so am hopeful for the stretch from treephones over the top down into snow cabin. FYI, the road left from tree phones to sign post was decent last Sunday, and the riding on top of that area was fairly good (just save me a few powder "morsels" for this Sunday).

It looked to us that he (VIC MASON, or one of him minions) just took a drive with the groomer to tree phones. Even if he did groom, you could still feel all the bumps. Like every year, he just knocks the tops off into the valley, then it takes but 5 sleds to get it all whooped out again. This was Saturday that we went up. NOTHING ELSE WAS GROOMED. You would think after all the 8itching going on if he did have the thing running he would have done it Friday night so everyone had a good day on Saturday, but no, typical I don't care attitude from Vic. If he did care, as stated in another post he would have had the stuff ready to go. He even went as far to state at the groomer meeting about the three folks search and rescue located "They should not have been there anyway" implying someone without his vast knowledge of the area should stay home I guess, I can't imagine what his brain was processing making a statement like that. for crud sake it's the snowmobiles paying his contract.

Vic has gotten away for too long doing a crud job in Tampico. Yes once or twice his crew does a good job but 90% or more, it's bad.

Another quote I'm sure all will enjoy, also from the groomer meeting by Vic Mason was, ( and this is not exactly, but close) "I'll run that thing double time till February-be out of money and this will all be over"

I know Tampico and others are looking into his contract, and would probably prefer me not to post this, however, it was stated, and I think the sledding community needs to know just what kind of a guy we are dealing with. If he did not want his statements out in the public, then he should keep them to himself. And for those that know me, you know I'll be happy to share all this in person.

NOW,,,, we did hear he was back on the trail yesterday afternoon, and are riding again today, so will see what kind of a job he did.

Safe riding everyone!

FYI the new parking looked to be good, a few bugs, but overall, I think we had more rigs in the lot, and it was much better organized. With luck, folks will continue this plan.

See ya on the snow.

Mason groomed the middle fork Saturday afternoon. Up to the top from what I heard. We rode as far as Clover, then bumped up over the top, and down to Signpost. THe road from Signpost to Tree Phones was not groomed as of tonight, and the north fork did not look as if it had been touched.
The middle fork was ok, concidering how whooped out it was, I would expect at least 2 groomings to get it down flat. At least the grooming has started.

Thanks again Tampico for riding along, it was a great day!

I went up today and there was more snow down low (sno-park to treephones)than there was last week. but not much new up top. I could still see my tracks down in the ravines and on some hills from last week:eek:. It was also the warmest day (with out sunshine) that i have ridden in a long time. There were people riding without coats at clover flats, it was real foggy today. I still had fun because i was on the snow.

Ahtanum Update 01-13-2010

Current Weather- The sno-park weather this morning was the pits; 33F and rain, and rained most of last night. We have lost some snow with this latest rain. As of 1400 today, the Green Lake sno-tel is showing 3" of new snow, and a temp of 32.5F, high there today was 36F this morning.

The longer weather outlook calls for snow levels between 3500' and 5000', with rain and snow intermittant through Saturday. Higher elevations should have some new stuff for the weekend. Next week looks to be slightly cooler, but drier. It looks tough to add snow to the lower levels (ie sno-parks) for the next 2 weeks. This is troublesome, as the Ahtanum sno-park seems to start the backward slide starting in early February.

The "circuit" was groomed last night, from Sno-Park to Treephones, Eagles Nest, top of Darland Mtn., down North Fork and back to the sno-park. His grooming schedule is a follows, I assume mostly in the late afternoon/evenings:

Monday- Middle Fork
Tuesday- North Fork
Wednesday- Jackass (not currently groomed, lack of snow)
Thursday- Whites Ridge, McClain Canyon, Red Saddle (not currently groomed, lack of snow)
Friday Middle Fork/North Fork
Saturday Middle Fork

Apparently, Riley Creek Logging did not give us permission this year to groom up to sign post, then north to the top intersection. I have not had a chance to contact DNR about this, but I will post more when after I talk to them.

The Yakima Ski-Benders (I am a member, for clarification) are still not at our mark needed as far as money raised to pay for this season. We are still collecting donations. The DNR and its budget cuts had this article in the Seattle PI yesterday, and our local efforts were recognized. However, I don't see any relief for the next 2010-2011 year. Here is the link:

Also, another reminder that this January 26th is the WSSA "All trails to Olympia" day. This is a great opportunity to voice our concerns about our sport, and the benefits it brings to our community. I will post more of this on the top thread concerning the DNR and winter recreation, when I receive it.

We were thinking of going up tomarrow (saturday) and were wondering what the conditions were like? How is Snoqualmie? PM8.

Tampico 01/15/2010 update

:pI rode the circuit and Blue Lake today, snowing and blowing hard on top. Super Bowl should be good tomorrow, along with the higher riding areas (depending on visibility and wind). Rain below Whites Ridge and Snow Cabin areas. North Fork road is very icy, as is road entry and parking lot. Forecast is for more low level rain over the weekend, snow level should be 4000'ish. The circuit has been groomed, much better on top, especially the North Fork. Stutter bumps are prevalent in the lower icy road areas, but are much better than last week. Parking lot was in the upper 30's this afternoon. Scratchers would be wise until we get some more low elevation snow.

Have a good weekend,

Tampico

WOOOHOOOOOOOOOOO! Thanks Tampico! Was planning a trip up anyway just to get the first trip out of the way. Good to know there's snow!:D

went up today, snow wasn't horrible, but wasn't that good either. Not too bad for a tune up ride, got to see the '10 M8 in action though (as much action as the crappy snow would allow) and it looked good. All and all not a bad day but we sure need more snow. Groomer had all the trails we took looking good, thanks for that:beer;

A little new snow in the sno park this morning it was very slushy. It was real foggy up top. went over to blue slides and the snow was pretty good but visibility sucked. It started snowing after noon and there was no sign of it letting up. on the way back down at clover flats/eagles nest the snow was good enough to do doughnuts and side hill down in and out of the ravines:D. Sorry no action shots, but where this pic was taken you cant tell but the snow was almost up to my knees when i walked for the shot.

It was snowing down at the sno park when I left at 4:30pm. But the park was about 2" of slush and water.
