About 300 once or 1 300 times:D
Bench press is relative to what your weight is.
A 180lb guy pressing 300 is far more impressive than
a 300 lb guy pressing 300. FYI i chose 315 or less.

God!!! I looked at the title of this thread probably 10 times and kept reading it as How much can you bench pull? And I kept saying to myself, what the hill is a bench pull? The only thing that I could think of was some moderator with the ultimate power bench pulling 3 inches. Then I read it for the 11th time and clicked on it to see what this was all about and the light finally came on. This is a bench press poll:D

I respectfully disagree. Pullups are relative because you are lifting your own weight. Leg press the big guys have an advantage because they carry the weight around all day. I think bench just seems this way because most guys who can press a lot are big. Short barrel chested guys have a major leverage advantage. Taller guys are actually at a disadvantage because of leverage.

Think of it this way-
A 6'8" 300lb guy w/an 300lb bench or a 5'2" 140lb guy w/an 300lb bench.
Which would impress you more?

K I cant say what I benched tonight till I feel less threatened by the big dawgs here. But I was able to get 6 reps with 130lb dumbell flys and did 225 for 25 and 275 for 15 as a warmup. But I dont think thats very accurate cuz I read thru all the posts on shoulder injuries and I seemed to have popped somethin in the right front delt doing 315 incline presses.......................Fak!! its all yer guys's fault I was at least trying tonight.

Back in my junior year in HS our coach put us on a killer bench workout. You start with as heavy as you can go for 15 reps (when I started I was at 115, 3 months later 155) Then its a set of 6 (205 at my peak) then 4 (245) and then you max (285 at my best) Then after that you pump out another 15 with your starting weight.

Right now...I haven't benched in a long time, but I'm probably around 200-215 for a max. We do a lot of pushups in the AF...not a lot of power lifting.

We had a 1000lb club, 1100, 1200, 1300, and 1400lb club. it was based on the total of 4 lifts.

285 bench
350 squat
225 power clean
460 deadlift

Anyone else run track? I was never blazing fast in the 100m (11.4-.7) but I used to run low 50s in the 400m. I was good at it, but dang I hated that race.

I think the most ive ever done was 215 senior year in high school ('07)

If I were to do it right now..dont think I could even bench 150..lol. who knows.

I gotta disagree with your disagree.

Well impressive, there isn't much functional about the bench. You use 2 main muslce groups to replicate movements that don't happen often....kinda like curls.

Now the dead lift, squat and pull up all use many groups and are movements often used in real life.

I'd say another good indicator of overall strength would be abs, and core, etc.

the topic was strength relative to body weight. bench not so much, leg press and pullups very much so....

as for bench not being functional? What muscles do you use when you punch someone? :D
