I understand the sentiment, but have a different view, we pay the companies for exactly this reason, the did as little as possible to appease him as a customer, not all they could have, they did the bare minimum based on a bunch of calculations and algorithms. Now they will raise everyone's rates, not just his but everyone's so they can make money. No insurance company will every do anyone a favor.I feel like for the most part that's a decent deal from your insurance company. They never are going to fully cover something like a person hopes but that's pretty darn close.
Also congrats on the new sled and trailer. Lets try and keep this one track down this time!
My insurance guy called me and asked if i needed help when my property was threatened by fire.My insurance guy just bought breakfast this morning
Really. Tell us moreSleds are not through him as rates have doubled due to(the follow is my opinion) old guys totalling sleds by not using tie downs.
Seeing some REVISIONIST EDITING going on hereReally. Tell us more
I'm guessing you'd be able to grab the sled with a claw and pick up your trailer with it from now on. Still, if it were me, I'd never be able to drive through that intersection the same again. It'd definitely be too crass, but the thought occurs to me to put a little stake with a snowmobile silhouette in the grass nearby...In fact it made it around the CORNER OF DEATH intact!!

Anyway, I think the insurance is being a little cheap not to cover the full replacement. Not something I'd fight over though. I do wonder what a sled like that goes for on the salvage market. I poked around Copart, but couldn't find something comparable. Side-note: there might be some good deals there, especially for someone able to fix structural damage. I think I'll keep an eye out, but just on the local yard - I wouldn't chance something I can't inspect. It might take a while. Of course, now I've gotta look for @christopher's sled too!
Ultimately, insurance companies only exist if they can pay out less than they take in. They try to play it like you'll be ruined if you don't insure every bit of what you own, but for something like a sled, you're paying to smooth over a short-term financial hit. It's just a personal choice as to whether that's worth it or not. The shysters and lawyers have made things a lot more difficult too: I get the sense that back in the day there were a lot more insurance salesmen like the one @summ8rmk mentioned. Now it's very cutthroat between insurance companies who'll do anything to deny or short-change a claim, and people out to milk or outright scam a claim.

Here in Canada, we have 2yr full replacement value on new vehicles. But depending on your policy, the deductible for claims changes.you think the -$1,500 in instant depreciation is acceptable?
Did you win out? Here in Canada, we have 2yr full replacement value on new vehicles. But depending on your policy, the deductible for claims changes.
I fought with my insurance company for 6 mo to get paid for a 3yr old enclosed trailer that where the tongue snapped off and the trailer ended up in the ditch.
A $13k trailer, that was $18k to replace during covid pricing, they only wanted to give me $7k for. But I could have sold it for $14k used. Moral is, insurance Co are tough to deal with.
