Here we go again. Oil prices

Did they reopen the plants? Last I knew was that 6 plants had been closed due to falling gas prices?

there were plants in MN that got built and have yet to open up.

Seems folks may have smelt something they didn't like

THe oil companies seem to have their cake and eat it too. The speculative market drives the price up to the top and the price of gas seems to magically go up Thursday before a long weekend when demand spikes. Sounds like a liitle of both Speculative Market and Supply/Demand.

Great just great :( they just closed a plant here also was only open a year the other was about half completed and they just abandon it. As far as i know there are no plans of finishing or reopening the plant that get into production.

well, at least the gas prices always manage to go down for sled season ;)

But that's the problem. The price of gas doesn't really go down.
The oil markets crash, then the price of oil tanks, followed by speculators running the price back up and creating another bubble that then bursts and the price oil tanks.

Each time it spikes, the economy drops.

my question is why has diesel been higher then gas when it cost less to make?

There is more tax on diesel, which is part of it. Not that much of it is made in comparison to unleaded gasoline, and in the winter, the source is split with fuel oil for heating.

At least that is my understanding of it.

Also during the last huge spike in gas, the Bush had the oil manufacturing plants switch to the priority being regular gas. He was trying to push the price of fuel down before the election. That led to a shortage of diesel fuel and I don't think that has been remideed yet.

Another big factor for the higher diesel prices is that the cost to make the new low sulfur diesel costs more than the older conventional methods, a lot more refined process than it use to be, thus costing more to produce.

the news article i read yesterday stated that the two biggest factors that were causing the increase are the OPEC nations limiting the supply and that oil futures are being traded/bought in anticipation of the economy recovering late this year. it also went on to say that the increase in prices at the pump is actually a positive sign of the economy but then went on to show a poll that showed consumer confidence declining at almost the same rate as gas prices are increasing. many economists are pushing oil futures in hopes of the demand overcoming supply. i dont know how much of it i believe but i do know that OPEC cutting production to diminish supply and boost prices globaly is f**ked up.

The news article I read this morning said we could be looking at supply problems in the US due to several plants shutting down.

Just another summer of excuses to see the price of gas skyrocket again. Last year they said "you think this is high, wait till the heating season starts up", and what happened when the heating season started up???? We saw prices at the pump like we haven't seen since 03.??? There's no rhyme or reason to any of it.:confused:

I always have to laugh.
We have the oil inside our own boarders to provide all the oil we need for at least the next 60 years.
We need to pump it.
We need to build modern refineries to process it.
We need to find a different type of energy while this is happening.

We can't keep going the way we are.
You have the republicans that want to just pump the oil and pretend everything will be fine and nothing needs to change.
Then you have the democrats who say the world will end just after lunch if we drill so much as one more hole. They want a different energy now. Too bad it's not here and not possible.

We need to do both at the same time.
I used to be a big supporter of E-85. I'm not so much anymore. We have to move away from oil as an energy source to drive our engines. It's not really an option, we have to. If they can power a light bulb from a patato, they can come up with an alternative.

Electric engines that are powered using conventional means also won't work. You would have an enviromental disastor in the form of used, broken and depleated batteries. Also, we don't have the electrical infastruture to support a few million cars all running on electricity. We can't even power everything now.

Hydrogen powered engines aren't the answer either. All the enviros want to blame Co2 for global warming. That is wrong. Water vapor is much more responcible that Co2. If you power engines with hydrogen, what's the byproduct? Water vapor. Not sure what the actual enviromental results would be, not sure I want to find out.

There is talk of oxygen powered engines, wonder what they would do to the worlds oxygen supply?

There is an answer. But first we need to get off the rollercoaster and get our own energy supplies in order WHILE finding the new source.
Wouldn't it be nice if we had politicians that could figure this chit out.

Instead of complaining about gas prices, invest money into oil companies or companies that hold oil. That will hedge against rising gas prices.

Companies like Exxon Mobil (XOM) wouldn't be too bad of a choice, it pays a 2% dividend also. Or invest into oil ETFs for diversification.

The problem with this is that fact the Dems are in charge.
If you remember the last time we had oil over 100 dollars the dems wanted to put a winfall tax on all oil.
This will destroy most of the profits you would get out of buying stock.
