Has anyone been there lately? Is there enough snow in the parking lot and lower trails to get up to higher elevation? Thinking about going up but not going to ride mud, rocks, or asphault.

Snow May Be "ALL GONE"

Rode Saturday, May 7th, out of Green Rock, Photo is at the turn around at Green Rock. I think the photo shows how much snow is up there, The state started clearing Highway 130 Monday, They have a major job ahead of them. Snow was good until about Noon when it started getting soft. I don't think you have to worry about rock, asphalt, bare ground for a while. Just good spring time riding. Watch for slides. Hope this answers your question. RickM

Last June 2010 and May 7th 2011 comparisons

Here is a picture taken last June 6th, 2010 when we were up riding, The state had just plowed Hwy. 130 and we took a photo of the Bathroom at Lake Marie, Check out the black vent pipes and the solar panel sticking up in the air.

Second photo was taken last Saturday May 7th, 2011. check out the vent pipes and the solar panel.

Yes there is so much snow that they are afraid of what the runoff will be this year. They say we are 200 % of normal for spring runoff this year.
Hope this answers the doubts of the snow depth in the snowies.

I was up there two weeks ago and I totaly agree with RICKM, XX2
It was a little ruff on the trail, but once you went over the gap,,snow snow snow!! I'd ride early. I live in Co and they just put up winter storm warning for tommarow, so if the moisture makes it up north a little you might have fresh POW to ride in. They said on it would be down to the 7000ft level here in CO and I believe greerock is around 9500ft so cross the fingers for fresh snow weds, thrus maybe...yessssss:peace:

It's snowing here today, woke up to about an inch on the truck, hoping lots more on the mountain. Riding on Sat. Hopefully some pow.

If they are plowing the road. What do you do, go up the road into a pull off and ride from there? or do you still ride out of Greenrock. We are heading out somewhere next week. I have just never been down when the road is plowed.

:high5:Does anyone know if it's snowing up at Greenrock today???? It's been raining like crazy down here in fort collins, co. I'm just dreaming of feet of snow up there at the Greenrock,,tell me they've stop plowing the road because there is to much SNOW :peace::peace::peace:

Looked promising but it's sounding like they only got about 4 inches or so.

I think theres still enough snow that you can unload at Greenrock and ride alongside the road. Not sure but I think the keep the gate closed till the road is all the way open.

Ya it's been awhile since i've ridden this late,,I dont remember about the gate either...hmm. If it had been cold enough down here I think we easily would of had a foot or more,,,I think i have that centenial cam bookmaked ,,just gotta find it.....

plowing and locked gate

In years past the state would lock the gate behind them as they went up 130 past the mountain meadows cabin turn off. They would leave it locked until 130 was totally opened on Memorial Day. This year they started early due to the unreal amounts of snow up there. You can ride out of greenrock for a long time yet unless it turns off HOT up there. There aren't any real turn outs along the road, there is parking at lake marie bathrooms but it will be a long time before you can use it due to the snow photos I posted earlier this week. The state will have a hard time moving all the snow before Memorial Day. Hope this helps you out. RickM

Received about 2"-3" last nite, was ugly most of the day with hardly any accumulation. They are at the road closed gate as of 4:00pm today, but there keeping barricades up at snowy mtn. lodge. Still good snow for late season just not much pow.....:face-icon-small-sho

Thanks for the info. The latest I have rode there was around April 30. We want to get out again next weekend, just trying to decide where.
