G4 BELT EATER! [2017 Ski Doo 850 Rev G4 clutching/belt fix?] Belt Issues

Throttle

BRP Will not admit to a problem because Norona hasn't blown a belt...... well maybe he should give it some throttle once and while instead of tip toeing around!!!!! I can also make my belt last when I'm riding like a girl!!!! 10 years of technology since the 08 piece of **** and BRP has handed us a great sled that eats belts like the way Roczen ate the face of that jump!!!!!

The one thing I noticed about these clutches, is that there is a lot of movement from the motor. I could physically put my hand on the primary and move it and the motor around. It seems like the motor mounts are the culprit in my opinion. I think we need a stronger motor mount or we need to run a torque link, to keep the motor from moving so much. :face-icon-small-dis

I've pulled a cord on two belts so far. I monitor my belts/clutches frequently when I ride. Both only pulled about 1 inch. First at 315 km and the second had only 262 till I noticed. I had already pulled all the felt and foam from my sled before I even rode it.

The dealer drilled some holes in the clutch cover and gave me two new belts. Brp knows there's a problem and for now is looking after the cost of the belts. I'm sure they will have a solution soon.

You may need to look into this, as if I grab my clutch like you say the motor does not move. Either you are exaggerating or your mount is missing a bolt or nut.

Does anyone else going through belts have sticky rollers... Before even riding one roller was stuck. Dealer looked at it but didn't have parts to replace the stuck roller. Now they're all sticky/tight, can barely roll some of them with fingers and have to break some loose after riding. Clutch has been making a loud noise that I believe is these rollers, since they squeak now when I try to roll them. Pulled a cord on my belt in under 200 miles. I stop for cool downs, try to not overheat the clutch too much. Planning to add more venting, change secondary spring and possibly add weight.

Anyone else in this boat? Yesterday at around 520 miles my clutch started to make noise and today just over 560 miles the noise is still there at engagement and disengagement. My roller we're getting sticky. Going to tare clutch apart tomorrow night to clean and see if I can find the noise. I'm still on original belt.

I have this same movement. I can grab my primary and move it 1/4" by hand. All engine mounts are tight.

Same here. If I lift straight up on primary I see little movement but forward and back I can probably move it by hand a 1/4 in. Can see a lot of movement in front engine mount rubber. Seems really soft. Engine moves quite a bit when revved up on track stand. I've done the recommended clutching setup, black secondary and loaded primary with weight to get down to 7900 rpm. Performance is much better but clutches are still way too hot.

We made long pulls other day in deep snow and clutch got so hot couldn't even hold hand on it

talked with a guy last night that went to a machined tra race.. said he was going on the third belt with his 850 and not done with break-in yet

out last two days and belt eater no more.. running much cooler

Here's your sign skidoo.......

Been following all the G4 catastrophe threads for a bit now. First of all, I don't own one. Secondly, I was planning on snow checking a 2018. So...I am going to ask a few questions. I was once a die hard Poo guy. I had motor problems. Lots of them. Which is why I ride Ski-doo now. I was one of those guys that would have gotten a belt eating 850 and also broke a bulk head. That being said, I believe those saying they are having issues. I think it's a real thing. I know the piston and ring issue with 800 Pro was a real thing. I lived it while others said it wasn't an issue and was being blown out of proportion. From what the latest numbers on the Pro 800 motor thread, the voting, I believe it has 20% of all Pro owners having issues with pistons and/or rings. So what is the real numbers of problems with bulkheads and belts? I don't know how to start a voting thread. Maybe somebody should and lets see if this really is an epidemic or just isolated. If it's real, show some numbers and maybe BRP will be lurking on this site and do something about it.

here is my take at the moment. first off I am lucky so far with 1 blown belt @180 miles and no module issues, but i doo feel for the guys that haven't been so lucky.
from the riders I know, or know of, and following all the forums (you gotta sort out a lot of b/s) but I think the modules are mostly preventable impacts. now that people have decent coverage, not hearing of many failures. at least
the ones that shouldn't of happened. as for the belts, I am guessing a fix is either here, or near. just got my goodwinn weight kit and mesh hood should be in any day now.
the hood should lower temps. am I excited about spring riding or early season riding ? NO, and that sux. but I love this sled

I had a 2012 PRO RMK 800 163 that I exploded and motor in 1250 miles in the first season so.

The bulkhead issues are real for sure, despite a lot of people claiming to not have issues. And needs to be addressed, skidoo is aware of it being a issue, since I've heard of at least one guy getting roughly $1000 out of his repair bill covered by Doo.

With that in mind I'd say next season there will be some changes there.

Now the belt deal is area prone. Since there are lots of folks that bought these and are riding at low low elevations. Those folks are not having the issues as bad (from the sound of things) compared to the folks riding in the mountains and or Deep Pow.

However it is real issue, I myself have 2 belts in 600 ish miles one was a string the other this past weekend was a utter explosion. Roughly 300 miles per belt. With belt temps over 200-220 degrees F. consistently, and clutch sheeve temps at 200 plus. It is no wonder there are belt issues. Combine that with the fact the motor mounts move 1-4"-3/8" forward and rearward. We stand no chance at the moment.

Changing out the flyweights for some aftermarket helps things, does not cure, but helps quite a bit.

Skidoo flat out left the clutch temp issue untouched from last spring on the demos.
(So much for 70 degree temp drop)The one I rode also had scalding hot
clutches. This needs to be addressed more than anything in my opinion.

I have been hearing that things are in the works but have no idea for sure what.

But even with the belt issues these sleds are MONSTERS, flat out rip! And are totally worth buying.

But if you are skeptical you could try the 18 Cat. From what I was told the other day sounds very interesting, motor wise anyway.

We have 7 850s in the group that we ride with relatively regular , we all are just around or a bit past brake in.
So far no belts and no bulkheads ,Knock on wood.

We all are dealing with over revving issues.
I am a bit disappointed on that. Once you get the revs under control it pulls even harder. The only people asking me about reliability issues are polaris guys-- but even they have nothing bad to say about the power:face-icon-small-who
