Funky Idle...?

So I have an '02 800 156" and it has been a rock of a sled. It has pulled out all of my other sleds, due to break downs, from the '05 900 to the Pro 163"! The problem is that it idles funny now for the last year. I cleaned the exhaust valves thinking that was the problem, but it didn't fix it. It runs great with plenty of power, but at an idle, it is very spar-attic. It will go from "normal" rpm and sound, to a high idle and muffled (for lack of a better word) and rattley (sic). It goes back and forth maybe every 10 seconds and will idle at one or the other for about that long. I thought maybe the baffles in the can (SLP) were the problem, but not sure. Where should I start looking now? Any help will be greatly appreciated!!

So I took the can off and started it and it does the same thing. Exhaust valves?? What do I need to look for?

Would that change the unevenness of rpm's? It's so random that it doesn't seem like it would be a rich or lean problem. I have the exhaust valves out and will start tearing into them to see what the bellows look like. I will fiddle with the air screws when I get them back together if I don't find anything. Thanks for the idea.
