Hey V-Man,

I am alarmed by this bill, but I did not see "It establishes manditory volunteerism by all adults and children in our country." anyplace in it. I am NOT supporting this in any way, I just would like understand what you have read. Please post a link or a caption that refers to this Manditory Volunteerism.
If I am mistaken, you will have my undevided attention and support.

Again I am alarmed by this bill and do not in any way support it.

Thanks,
Log.

Thanks MT.

This country really does need more social involvement.
However, I think it should be instilled and encouraged by our parents, family and peers not manditory laws!! Total BS.

exactly!!!! it SHOULD NOT be left up to a tyrannical government to mold and shape our young into their nefarious version of 'service'!

The word Cadre's appear in the bill all over

29. Cadres

In order to guarantee that our Party and country do not change their color, we must not only have a correct line and correct policies but must train and bring up millions of successors who will carry on the cause of proletarian revolution. In the final analysis, the question of training successors for the revolutionary cause of the proletariat is one of whether or not there will be people who can carry on the Marxist-Leninist revolutionary cause started by the older generation of proletarian revolutionaries, whether or not the leadership of our Party and state will remain in the hands of proletarian revolutionaries

Mao Tse Tung
Quotations from Mao Tse Tung
30. Youth

The world is yours, as well as ours, but in the last analysis, it is yours. You young people, full of vigor and vitality, are in the bloom of life, like the sun at eight or nine in the morning. Our hope is placed on you. The world belongs to you. China's future belongs to you.
Talk at a meeting with Chinese students and trainees in Moscow (November 17, 1957).
We must help all our young people to understand that ours is still a very poor country, that we cannot change this situation radically in a short time, and that only through the united efforts of our younger generation and all our people, working with their own hands, can China be made strong and prosperous within a period of several decades. The establishment of our socialist system has opened the road leading to the ideal society of the future, but to translate this ideal into reality needs hard work.
On the Correct Handling of Contradictions Among the People (February 27, 1957), 1st pocket ed., pp. 44-45.
Because of their lack of political and social experience, quite a number of young people are unable to see the contrast between the old China and the new, and it is not easy for them thoroughly to comprehend the hardships our people went through in the struggle to free themselves from the oppression of the imperialists and Kuomintang reactionaries, or the long period of arduous work needed before a happy socialist society can be established. That is why we must constantly carry on lively and effective political education among the masses and should always tell them the truth about the difficulties that crop up and discuss with them how to surmount these difficulties.

SOunds like our new model eh?

That quote is not directly from the bill, but is a comprehension of it's total contents. It is very clear, even to the main stream media, that this administration's goal is not to make this completely optional and the bill clearly identifies this is not targeted to youth, but the entire population.

Do a search for the word adult. Here's one of many excerpts:

State Service Plan for Adults Age 55 or Older-

‘(1) IN GENERAL- Notwithstanding any other provision of this section, to be eligible to receive a grant or allotment under subtitle B or C or to receive a distribution of approved national service positions under subtitle C, a State shall work with appropriate State agencies and private entities to develop a comprehensive State service plan for service by adults age 55 or older.

‘(2) MATTERS INCLUDED- The State service plan shall include--

‘(A) recommendations for policies to increase service for adults age 55 or older, including how to best use such adults as sources of social capital, and how to utilize their skills and experience to address community needs;

Some may want to review the 13th amendment. It prevents slavery and involunary servitude except for the punishment of a crime.

They are not going to pass a bill that is against the 13th amendment and is unconstitutional. I'm am definitely not a Obama supporter, but some on here need to quit with the paranoia. It doesn't do anybody any good.

This new bill is worse than GIVE

Check out this new bill coming down the pike. HR 1444 "To establish the Congressional Commission on Civic Service to study methods of improving and promoting volunteerism and national service, and for other purposes."

I just skimmed it looking at the text in thomas.gov and I'm sure I missed some other stuff, but this is what caught my eye on the brief skim.

Section 2 (3) National service and volunteerism among the nations youth is increasing [so why this bill?]
Section 2 (4) "new paths" of civic engagement, "responsibility." [who defines those new paths? - not govt!]
Section 4 (a) (3) "identify and offer solutions to barriers that make it difficult for some to volunteer or perform national service."
Section 4 (b) (6) Address and analyze whether a workable, fair and mandatory service requirement for all able young people could be developed"
Section 4 (b) (7) The need for a public service academy, 4 years, federally funded, to train future public sector leaders.

Senator Jim DeMint gave an excellent speech before the Senate about why this crap is so destructive. There's the video but also the full transcript so you can skim it since the vid is 14 minutes.

They are already trying to violate the 1st and 2nd amendment (Fairness Doctrine, Gun Control), what makes you think they'll stop there. The Consitution is dying and Obama is making funeral arrangments for it.

Um, Obama considers the Constitution to be a relic, deserving of being placed in a museum and nothing more.
His most recent choice for State department legal adviser wants all Judges to rule based on other nations "norm" and to ignore the constitution.

I don't think Obama and his admin really gives a chit about the constitution.

Oh, and the house already passed it. Off to the Senate then Obama, the biggest puppet in the world.

the evidence of what obama and his administration has ALREADY DONE would indicate otherwise. they are and continue to govern with NO REGARD to the constitution.

Oh, I agree. Someone will challenge any provisions of "Mandatory", and have it declared unconstitutional. I don't believe they intend to make it mandatory, right now. It's all about setting up the infrastructure, and getting people used to the idea. Wait 20 years, it'll be the norm. Besides, they don't want everyone, just the like minded. Think along the lines of a nationally funded organization devoted to the "non-working", and what's best for them. A little brainwashing, a little duty, a little diversion.

Now that's an interesting question. How do you guys feel about mandatory military stints, say 2 years?
