Here's a question. Since 10% of all men have a green/red deficiency AKA partially colorblind (I am) how would this affect the definition seen in differnt light conditions? I fail all those little blotch cards at the eye doctor. Maybe thats why I like yellow much better than rose? Or maybe rose lets me see the reds I normally dont??? I'm no scientist but...

I'm betting most people can see better in low light than I can....and that sucks.

That is actually a great question that I don't have the education to answer. You might talk with your optometrist about this on your next visit. I'll do a little research and see if I can find anything. I have a few close friends that are red/green color blind.

Tried out 509 Orange lenses yesterday to see how they would work in flat light. I was amazed on how well they worked, the deffinition was awesome. Later in the day when the sun came out, they still were great, no need to change out the lenses. They were the plain Orange 509 lenses, not the Chrome/Orange. I have a set of those also, they are darker and do not work as well in flat light.

Have you tried the yellow 509's? I have those and like them but am interested to try the orange now.

Have you compared both?

Yes, I have been using the Chrome/Yellow lenses for the past three years. After trying the Orange, I'm sold on the improved vision. Plus, everything looks normal...no weird color contrasts.

That can be two things:

1. Your eyes simply do not use rose very well.

2. More likely the rose you bought was not well designed but simply a dyed lenses. This is where buying a quality lenses comes into play.

Well I guess it must be my eyes cause we know my lensses are in front of the fan that has the little battery cover that falls off.:face-icon-small-hap

Hi Farwest

That battery door cover is something that Habervision is working on. The trick is to slide it into place. If you look at the cover you will see those 2 little cut outs, those have a small flap under them. Those 2 flaps then slide under the lip that surrounds the battery compartment on the eliminator. So you actually slide the cover forward until it snaps. If you need a new battery door pm me your address and I will mail you out a new one.

I've always used the amber lens in the Oakley O-Frame, they do decent in low light and great on bright days.. Really like the goggles, but I really like the look of the new 509 Aviators. So I might be looking to get those gogs now. I was kinda thinking about the Chrome with yellow tint, we'll see how that goes.

If you are looking for the best low light lenses you will not want a chrome, mirror finish or flash on the lenses. Something without that coating will allow you to see better.

Polarization certainly will not hurt but it really doesn't help a lot in low light. When you have a lot of light, or bright days, is when polarization really helps out.

Well the aviators come with the bronze lens so I'll probably just use that for low light, it looks like it's clear enough for low light. I'll use the Chrome/Yellow tint for the bright days most likely.

my experience using the 509 aviators....

if its flat light and really dark and overcast I prefer the yellow no mirror

and if it's just straight flat light the blue seems to be the best.

I absolutely love my Oakley Splice with dark grey lenses. I have a pair of Oakley A Frames with orange lenses too, but I like the darker lense better.

We recently picked up the Zeal line as well. Zeal - has a broad spectrum lens this lens takes you from your orange color base to your grey color base. These lens are also polarized to 180 degrees and come in photochromatic as well. I just recently tried out a set of the polarized photochromatic and they simply flat out rock! This is also the company that sells the Transcends the HUD GPS unit. Zeal is also the only company we found that produces a high end children’s goggle that is polarized.

The best optics on the market currently comes from 2 countries Germany and Japan. Haber and Zeal optics are from Japan and Uvex and comes from Germany. Everyone else is China. You have to have good optics to start with to get the benefits of any color lens you are riding with.
