Fix the economy?

IMO, The whole problem is that Government has became a business. Being in the Government, has become a business.
It has strayed away from what it was intended for. Take the business out of the government, alot would change.

What is a "fixed" economy? Does anyone know? Can anyone clarify what a fixed economy would be?

"Fixed" & "Broken" is however one interprets it.

My interpretation of our economy being broken is.............
Budget not being balanced 1st & foremost,
National debt not being paid down,
Industries choosing to take up shop elswhere

..Debt to around 50% of GDP
..Un-employment at 5% or less
..Social Security and Medicare fully funded.
..50% reduction in welfare.
..Interest rates back up to around 7% (banks are not anxious to provide loans when they are not making money)
.. Military funding not cut any more.
.. Southern border secured.
.. Trade deficit reduced.
.. 75% reduction in foreign aid.
.. Gasoline (without ethanol) at $2.00 per gallon.
Obama out of office!

I think that is going to happen regardless. Once the needed government cutbacks occur and coupled with tax increases to help pay off all of the debt and unfounded liabilities.

Should add once the war is over in Afghanistan too. Lots of money going out to our soldiers and contractors that will end once the war is over..

For me the economy won't be fixed untill gas prices come down dramatically, it's my largest monthly expensive. If it comes down I'll have more money to spend elsewhere and I'm sure I'm not the only one.

Gas prices haven't increased a whole lot when you adjust for inflation..

I don't see anything really happening with respect to fuel or energy prices. These generally keep up with inflation and will only get more expensive in the future as increased demand and increased emissions keep increase pressure on the prices.

Couldn't agree more. To add to the list however, I would like to see the power grid improved as well as other infrastructure. The only other thing is to fund schools better.

why not cut military spending ? we spend way to much IMO

Well I think it’s kind of a dove or a hawk kind of thing. I find this one of the tougher issues facing us. If it was a perfect world we wouldn’t need a military. If our cars and trucks didn’t burn gas we wouldn’t need to stick our noses into the issues in the middle east. The reality is, it isn’t a perfect world, and much of our economy depends on military spending. I have visited many of these very large companies, like Lockheed Martin and McDonald Douglas and a few others, and I can tell you that many fairly large cities depend on those military contracts to keep the cities lights on and families fed. On top of the economic impact, there is the need, in my opinion for America to remain the strongest military force for democracy in the world. There has been a lot young lives lost over a significant portion of our history to establish our military dominance in the world, and I would hate for those lost lives to have been in vain.
You can’t “lead from behind” that has to be the dumbest thing I have ever heard! A good example of my point is the old saying... in a sled dog team, the only view that ever changes is that of the lead dog!

I think We spend like 45% of the rest of the world combined on our military we could cut that buy a big % and still be good . IMO its been counter productive and has mad us less safe = more enemies. US foreign policy is Insane to be kind.

Just imagine if US companies did business here in the states instead of the middle east.

To a certain extent we do need to have a large amount of spending go to military because of it's economic impact AND because of the technologies developed by the military. While it is a pain to fund, I think it is necessary to stay ahead of the rest of the world. Not only that, but I think that our vastly superior military is the big club which prevents the rest of the world from thinking its a good idea to aggressively expand.

On the other hand it does drain our resources which could be better spent elsewhere.
