Fairview Shootout???

I couldn't make it this year. I had to go help to my buddies Tapex out of 5 bowls in Wyoming. Took us all day.

Next year I will bring my 1978 Snowjet.

Last year, I got harrassed in Tony's Grove because my sled was not registered. They almost impounded my sled. They were checking stickers in Wyoming yesterday. These FS bumms are out to shut sledding down. We NEED to stand up and protect our rights to snowmobiling.

It is not a big deal to spend 25.00 for a sticker. Especially if you own a 15,000.00 or like Diamond S a 50,000.00 sled. But there also needs to be some give from FS.

I bet they would harrass ol Stanger because his sled puts out way to much Horsepower. Or the Impulse boys....The way those turbos hiss.

Our local FS and BLM has made the statement, that they wish all forest was closed down to all motorized vehicles. That way they can not have to manage and patrol the forest...just sit in the office and eat donuts.

Last year, I was ran off a dirt road after riding my dirt bike 50 miles through the trail system. After I was ran off, I got back on my dirt bike and pulled the POS individual over. He, of coarse was in a Subaru that had Obama Bumper stickers all over the back of his car. We all but got into a fist fight. He told me that Dirtbikes, sleds, and other motorized vehicles had no business in the mountains. The mountains were sanctuaries for hikers, and cross country skiers. I of coarse took his license plate and reported it to the FS....They pretty much agreed, and let him off the hook, and nothing was done. There is way more money from kooks like this guy than from the snowmobilers, and other Motorized vehicle donators. Look at this website: http://www.winterwildlands.org/about/board.php These guys are suing to shut down more public land to snowmobiles. One of the cases has gone all the way to the supreme court. Look at the last board member. He has worked on the FS...

The only way we can fight to keep these lands open to enjoy by Snowmobile, Dirtbike ect, is to stand up and fight. If we don't, we will soon lose our opportunity and freedoms.

The next phase they will go after will be noise and keeping sleds stock. You know how loud the aftermarket and turbo stuff can be.

The canadians have already stopped Stanger a time or two right at the boarder, all because he has to many ponies under the hood...:face-icon-small-hap

STAND UP FELLOW SLEDDERS!!!!

Here is another: http://www.winterwildlands.org/news/archive/WWA's Mark Menlove Addresses Snowmobile Dealers.pdf

This link provides comments from Mark Menlove who is involved heavily in the Winter Wildlands Alliance, in this read, he discusses challenging the ORV snowmobile exemption and if passed will limit the Off trail capacity we all enjoy. This would mean, Trails only. No more chute climbing, No more Race Bowl...ect. This is what is being challenged at the supreme court level.

Folks, we need to STAND UP!!!

With regards to the impounds.

1- those sleds are owned by OEM. They are loaned to Boondocker Turbos, Rasmussen to use, demo and promote the brands. This is the reason they didnt have proper paper work. Having a sled like this my self, its super tuff to provide the state necessary paper work to get registration. Many phone calls to marketing departments back at OEM head quarters are required to get this done.
2- In my case it was easier to have the sled owners purchase an ONLINE out of state Utah tag and mail that to me. Now, when the fish cops see my Idaho truck plate, out of state Utah tag i dont get hassled. However if they see my Utah drivers license they threaten to impound everything till I explain my sled situation.
3- You can buy OUT of state tags ONLINE or at mavericks. All you need is the VIN and and out of state drivers license number. It is my understanding that the fish cops impounded the sled because "they could not provide the necessary documentation to obtain an out of state OHV registration. Which is absolute BS! All they needed to do was drive down to cell service range, pull up the link on their phone, purchase the OHV tag and they were good to go. The fish cop had it out for them. IMO the correct thing to do was write them up for no registration ($100 ticket) send them off the mountain where they buy tags ($35) then they can come back up and be legal. Jared and the guys had no clue you had to do this in utah.
4- Ive been through this before with sanpete county trying to impound brand new sleds because i didnt have stickers. Sleds were BRAND NEW and i left the temp paper registration at home! Finally convinced him not to impound and was given a no registration ticket. I then had to drive all the way back down to the court house and show my temporary paper work to get the ticket dismissed (they dont accept faxes). I have refused to ride down there since then.

What a bunch of BS! Why does everyone hate sledders? Because we have more fun than everyone else?

I have called and spoken with the Sanpete county officials about the issue of impounding the sleds. They are just as frustrated as most people are because they have spent time and money promoting the event, creating maps of the area, and trying to get snowmobilers to Sanpete county and then this happens and is completely counter-productive to their efforts.

The officer who impounded the sleds is with the Utah State Parks division and is out of the Huntington office (BTW - not Sanpete County). I have also sent an email to the officer's boss. Although what happened cannot be changed, hopefully we can at least prevent this from happening in the future and change the way the Utah State Parks officials treat the snowmobilers who are in effect writing their paychecks.

The more people who can call and complain or write an email about the event and their frustrations, the more likely something will be done to correct the problem.

X2! Post up the contact info

I didn't want to post up the info unless it was public information because I didn't want to abuse any information I had received from some of my local contacts. However, I found the information was available publicly, so I guess it is fair game.

This is exactly why we stay east of the co-ut border. I would probably still be in jail for obstruction of justice and assaulting a peace officer. I don't get it. Here in swcolo we are friends with the forest service peeps. My buddy even tried hitting on the "hot " fs girl. Sad to think its a head on battle over there.

Uh... yeah, ok. I hunt the west side of Colorado every year. Try showing up over there without your out of state ATV sticker and see what happens.

But its the law, figured that out after the first time, and haven't had issues since.

Yeah, I'm sure we are hearing the full story about what happened. I'm sure our fellow snowmobilers were polite and respectful and all that sort of stuff... I'm sure of it. ;)

So we are pissed at this guy for enforcing the law and want him not to enforce the law? What other laws do you all think the enforcement should ignore/bypass? I've got a pretty long list.

Here's how this can be prevented in the future...

Know the local laws and obey them. I travel all over the west snowmobiling, hunting and ATVing... Takes a couple of minutes to look up the phone number for the OHV department for each state and make a call to find out the law and what I have to do to obey it. Most of the info is readily available online even.

What's more, the "no registration or out of state sticker" thing happens every year at Fairview. You would think that people would learn. You would think that Sanpete County would make it part of their info when they promote the event.

This isn't just a Utah thing. I ride Cooke City. Buy the Montana sticker cause they check you right in town. Want to ride to Top of the World... better buy the Wyoming sticker because the Wyoming enforcement guy likes to sit at the parking lot on the Wyoming side to catch people coming from Cooke City that didn't buy the WY sticker.

Want to ride from Beaver Mtn in to Idaho... better buy the sticker, the Idaho guys like to set up a check right inside the boarder north of Beaver Mtn to catch you if you don't have your sticker.

Yeah, poor us snowmobilers... we're picked on. Obey the law and if you get caught not obeying the law don't pull an a-hole attitude, take the consequences (although I am positive in this case there was no a-hole attitude involved).

Showing up without your ohv permit is silly anywhere. It's a 100 dollar fine. Many of my friends have been stopped and issued tickets for that but that's it. Never did thier sleds get towed away. Some were warned and told to load up and go buy a permit, they were the lucky ones. No bash on any of you Utah sledders but your state is a$$ backwards in the law enforcing department. Everyone this side of the border fears a run in with Utah highway patrol.
