Exercising for snowmobiling?

To those wondering about supplements I have been lifting since my softmore year of high school(4 years) and I got stuck lifting at 3X10 155lbs bench, 3X10 175lbs squats, and 3X10 185 deadlifts for about the last year. Last month I started taking whey protein elite(whey protein with some small amounts of creatine monohydrate) and I have already improved everything a little bit, the most pronounced improvement is bench to 3X10 165(yeah i mainly did upperbody in highschool so im oddly proportioned). I currently weigh 153ish(add or subtract 2 pounds depending on how much water I've drank recently and when I went to the bathroom last)

I don't want to do a big complicated thing and argue this out so I will try and be brief. Calories into your mouth vs calories into your blood stream varies widely for different people. The natural 6 pack people are that way by genetics for the most part as are a lot of over weight people. Some are super efficient about extracting calories from the food they eat and some are much less so. Haven't you ever know someone who could literally eat anything and still be skinny? My son who works out with me is like that. He can eat full bags of chips, cookies, drink soda(when he gets his hands on it) and he is still at 8-10% body fat. My other son eats a much better diet, eats meals instead of snacks, works out every day too and makes much better choices but is over weight. The other big thing is the way your body processes blood sugar. Some people can tolerate very high blood sugar levels. Others can't. If you can't when you eat to much for the system to handle your body releases insulin and turns all that blood sugar into stored fat. Then the low blood sugar triggers intense hunger that is very hard to resist. If you can tolerate high blood sugar your body will have a much longer time to burn it off. This is getting long, there are several other points I could go to but this Snowest, not Diet West. Take care.

Bingo, I have two friends who are the same way, eat whatever the hell they want, as much as they want, and neve get fat, and these are guys I have known for 20 years. Me on the other hand, I have the metabolism of a 3 toed sloth! Right now I am on a 1000 calorie diet, and have lost 12 pounds in the last 4 weeks. I am short, 5'5", stocky, and a month ago i was at 210. Now I am at 197, goal is 165 or so.

Sxrlar 1200 calories is a really tough diet to pull off. You must have some iron will power. Also, it will be hard to maintain. I trust the Low Carb or Paleo diets really well but if you go off them you will gain back the weight. I think you should figure out a way to eat that you can maintain over a long period of time. Maybe try and add some protein calories to the diet you are using and see if you start to drop some weight. You might be in starvation mode and your body is actually hanging on to body fat because it thinks you are in a survival situation. I wasn't eating much at all for over a month and hadn't lost any weight on the scale at all. Built some muscle and lost some fat but the scale was just stuck. I added some calories and weight started coming off. Something to try...

Have about 2 weeks left on this round of P90X. I had to add some cardio a few times a week to shock my body into dropping some bodyfat. This is the first time I have exercised and ate right for that long and not lost any real weight. I hadn't really lost any pounds at all for the first 8-9 weeks. I had been losing body fat at the same rate as adding muscle but no net loss. I get what some of the guys are saying about not worrying about the scale but I am big guy and I want to be as light as I can. Sled doesn't know the difference from fat pounds or muscle pounds. I am almost 6'5" and I am wearing 34" Levi's with room to carry IWB so I am pretty thin but I want to be light too. I need a plan for after this round of P90X. Anybody do P90X2 or Tap Out XT?

I did p90x2. It wasn't as much of a shock to my system as the original, but it helped a lot with my balance and core strength. I also did Asylum, great workout. Have you tried CrossFit? I have found they vary from "box" to "box", but the one I go to is great. It is worth at least trying to see if you like it, although it definitely is not for everyone. I thrive on variety, and I have not done the same workout in 3 months. Making some very significant strength and endurance gains, and I am able to tailor my diet to maintain my performance. There is also some "skillset" type exercises (handstands, muscleups) that challenge you to get better. Who knows, I have been involved in the fitness "lifestyle" long enough to know that for me my likes and dislikes change as I get older. I guess CrossFit is my current Kool-Aid of choice, and right now it tastes pretty good. I think that the TapOut program looks pretty cool though too. I would also say if you just want to get lighter for snowmobile season, try a diet change. Personally my performance suffers when I reach a certain weight, but if you can remain light AND strong, go for it. When I was doing p90x I had to INCREASE my caloric intake to lose weight. The body can be a mysterious creature...

...Try Asylum. You think the Max Workouts are an azz kicker! One thing that is awesome about staying in shape, there is always a way to make it harder!

Okay guys, I need an order in which do to these programs. What to do first and last based on difficulty(and how long each program lasts would be great too). I'd love to try some of these!

I weight lift 5days a week for hour and half every morning, minimum of 250reps of abs and 15min of cardio everyday. Then rotation of different lifts different days. And I think being a senior in high school helps to staying in shape.
Anyone else been out riding yet?

Rick what do you think of P90X2? The one thing holding me back was that the cost of $140 for the CDs and then about $250 for all the medicine balls and rollers and stability balls for my son and I would total about $400. I got the whole P90X program from a buddy who didn't make it one week. Do you think X2 would be worth the $400 or just keep on with P90X? I am probably going to get Tap Out XT for some variety. These workouts are usually available on Craigslist from people who get them but don't use them.

CROSSFIT is for Social Douchebags

My biggest gripe with crossfit is the fact that it all started as an ALTERNATIVE to expensive gym memberships. i.e., dragging tires in your yard, beating slaves back with it was legal, ect. Then, it blossomed into a 149 dollar (quadruple most gyms) membership place to work out, and also seems to bee more about the social occasion than anything.

Kudos to the guy who thought of it. Practically no overhead. You rent out a non climate controlled sh** warehouse, stuff it full of tractor tires and a few old rusty free weights that Gold's threw away, and charge 149 a month for a membership and the trout swim upstream in droves to pay you to use it.

Most crossfit "boxes" (cant call it a gym) have some sort of a "wall of fame" for injuries sustained during training. bloddy knuckles, ect. Am I the only one who sees something wrong with that?

crossfit is really nothing more than a place to throw away money and your back. dead lifting against the clock against a bunch of single mothers? for real?

Pot meet kettle, lol.

Its super easy to poke fun at any type of gym. Koolaid crossfit drinkers, meatheads at golds, pansies at planet fitness, curl in the squat rack / glamour muscle bros, etc. Social douchebags are everywhere in every facet of society.

None of the stereotypes you listed are prevalent at the crossfit gym / box / whatever that I work out at, and if it was then I would not work out there. Have been to several and have never seen what you are referring to, not saying its not out there, but it is a moronic small minority. It is very simple (and simple minded) to paint an entire group because of its moron minority, we deal with that constantly as snowmachiners and it really is a mindset that needs to stop.

I do agree that there is nothing revolutionary about crossfit in regards to the workout. High intensity interval training has been around forever. Problem is most traditional gyms do not lend itself to that type of workout (bumper plates, oly platforms, tires, medicine balls, etc). Crossfit does a good job of developing a workout for you where you just show up, do your workout, and go home. Makes it much more convenient for people, and people don't mind paying for convenience. Free market and it is proving successful, good on them.

I stick with what works for me, crossfit has shown results that 20+ years of lifting for athletics has never done. To each their own, and the most important thing is to actually get and do SOMETHING.
