drilling reeds

okay so i heard from someone who heard from someone from polaris. . . you know how that goes but anyways. I heard that they had problems in the past with reeds and idling and sucking too much fuel which in turn caused a rich take off from an idle. they also said that drilling with a very tiny drill bit to the bottom of the reed to keep proper air flow at an idle was the fix that alot of mechanics were doing. again i heard this from someone who heard this from someone. i thought i would ask about this because i was kinda curious. anyone have any idea what im talking about?

That doesn't make any sense, at least the way you describe it. Your reeds are there to seal the crankcase, why you would drill a hole in them makes no sense. At best this would lean it out on idle somehow, but then how you control the rest of the fuel circuit? It would be lean throughout. If you are fat on idle, you're better off with a smaller pilot jet or air screw adjustment, drilling a hole in your reeds may fix the idle problem somehow, but I think it will hurt your motor somewhere else.

That's just my $0.02
NSC

Not to mention the structural integrity. Wouldn't those holes cause a weak point during the flex cycle of the reed?

thats my thought on the whole thing too. makes no sense because it would have an effect throughout not just off an idle. i just heard about it thats why im asking to see if i have this correct or why anyone would do this.

I hear if you port your fuel tank it saves weight! I heard this from a guy that knew a guy that talked to somebody that heard this!!!

YEAH AND>>>>>
>while you are porting the track make sure you check the rear brakes, it save alot of time if you do them together. ;)
> the problem with ported head lights is that the halogen fluid leaks out too fast. It does how ever, lighten the sled for a short period.
