good year hose is 61002

Thanks I'll give that one a try too. The US numbers are all showing up as bad numbers everywhere I try here. Not too worried about it, the hose has been in this kind of shape since 2006. Ha ha.

Wish me luck guys, I think its ready to try this mountain thing again...headed into Kakwa tonight or tomorrow morning. I've put about 20gallons through it down here and all seems well, finally!

Epic fail. Again. Went out for a Saturday/Sunday in Kakwa. Motor was pushing a little wee bit of antifreeze part way in on day 1 but it wasn't showing up in the motor and was bubbling in the bottle so I figured it was safe because it was pushing and must have just been a bad head o-ring. Rode all day Saturday and things never changed, went in again Sunday, made it to the lake and it sucked in 1/2 liter in like 500 feet (stopped running on 3 immediately). Apparently Pro's are a bit light for towing a Gen2 1200. Didn't think my sled was that heavy!

Anyways got it towed in and took it home, pulled the head this morning hoping to find a cut, split, etc head o-ring and nothing. They all look good with no visible wash spots, cuts , roll overs, pinches etc. If the base gasket went on that cylinder would it do this? How would it push air though, isn't it always vacuum down there? Little puzzled here.

Hey Pig, long time. Yes, you can suck a base gasket. There isn't a whole lot of meat down there between the jackets. I always used some of that 1107 or 1147 (can't remember what they call it now) sealant on both sides of the gasket.

i think most use three bond 1211?

Yeah, thats the ****, thanks josh. It used to be called some other number, but they took something hazardess out of it and renamed it (I think it was 1140 or 1141) 1147 is tail light bulbs LMFAO. See what happens when you get old. I'm losing my edge. APPLY SPARINGLY to both sides and you'll have good results. Thin to win.

thanks for the tips guys. Got it back together, but the old girl went to a new home today. Gonna miss her. kinda feels like i stabbed my best friend in the back selling her, but after 14 years its time to update. '13 Pro is being put together as we speak!

thanks to all of you for the help over the years, its been a lot of fun and it will be sorely missed.

I have almost finished my chassie.
Hooked up the CDI today and checked that I have sparks in the plugs.
Does anyone have some tuning tips for 44mm lectron carbs?
I have absolutely no idea where to start, so I will probably set the metering rods pig rich to start out.
The carbs are fitted with Brads power jets, does anyone have any idea how many turns i should turn them out max?

LECTRON NEEDLE SETTING

Hi Andreas.

You really need to make something like this to have a chance at getting those carbs to work good.

those are not brads power jets... he doesn't make power jets.

This adjustment fixture gets you in the hunt of a good starting point ( depending on how close your needles are to each other )

Once you get a good set of match needles guard them with your life, and don't sell them.

great throttle response depends on a good set of needles.

if you make a setting fixture, I can explain how to set it up to absolute zero so your base line is correct.

There NO other good way to get a starting point ( measuring from the tips with a dial caliper is worthless )

Dan is right. It is all in the needles. In my experience, the Lectrons were great for WFO racing. Needle tuning was a challenge for normal riding (trail and trees). Had to live with a FAT bottom end. The best luck I had was boring out the SkiDoo Mach Z triple carbs from 38 to 40 (ish) mm. The use plates between them, needle bearings on the shafts (for long life), power jets I got from Fastrax. They were easy to tune, velocity was great and crisp throughout. Best of all, the parts (Mikini) were easy to come by. If you see a set of those in your travels, snag them. You can even run them as 38 mm and they run well unbored. Have two strong running 38mm version 1200 around here, throttle response is very crisp and one of them kicked but in snow drags a couple years back, so top-end didn't suffer. His set up was Ruth Power porting and Crankshop pipes with Ultra ignition.

Can anyone tell me where I can find a coolant hose that runs from the brake caliper to the waterpump on an IQR chassie? It's 1" I.D. and looks like a Z. I'm working on my wifes IQR right now and that hose has a couple of big nicks in it, it's not leaking but I don't think it will last much longer. This thing also has a set of 48 lectrons on it, I've never worked on lectrons in my life and it's got me confused as well. If you go to lectrons website it has a few videos on how to tune these things, but they are also using a guage like Dan has in his pics and don't recommend using calipers. :face-icon-small-con Thats why I tore into this thing in the first place, it's leaving a black streak behind it out in the hayfield. Momma's losing her patience, she wants ride this thing.

Edit: the power jets on my 48's were 1 3/4 turns out, (it's been running at 5000' to 6000') It has 8-2XL metering rods, 1.966" length. I have been told a 1/4 turn is approximately the equivelent of 1 jet size. Go to lectrons website, the videos will at least give you an idea where to start.

Agree with 4z... I'm running 38s that Dan "guessed" :D at the baseline and he nailed it. Really like the responsiveness

Thanks for the advise Dan.
I think i will place an order from lectron on a dial gauge with fixture and one of those metering rod adjusters knobs.

Should i order some different metering rods for it as well?
I currently have 5-2XL metering rods.

Andreas, Its a smart move to order the setting fixture.

as far as needles go you should stick with the XL needles and I don't see 5-2XL being the anwser for you package but you never know.

Kevin at Lectron might be able to give you a direction to go.

As 4Z & Ridecats mention the use of small carbs..... I couldn't agree more I normaly push people in the small carb direction.

For every 1 guy that likes big carbs there are 20 that can't make them work.

Or worse yet..... They stick with the big carbs and end up saying after every race..... I WAS CATCHING YOU !!!

I do have the parts needed to build a tm-40 rack.

You will have alot better luck with a 40mm rack then those lectrons.

I love Lectrons carbs but I like the 38mm ones.

46mm lectrons have a big gurgly sounding hollow pause right before they hit.

a 38mm rack will be 2 to 5 sleds out in just over 1 second.

Ive ran just about every carb out there on these motors heres my take:

48mm lectron- bottom end not bad but rich there and through the middle top end was very good tuning mainly using powerjets for WOT, starting when cold also proved to be a bit more of a challenge. also as lynn said idle to WOT might be the best carb out there for that, I had some N20 with my drag setup (non ported ves) with these after running them on a ported ves 1200 mtn setup

38mm tcat racks narrowed- very good setup, easy starting tons of bottom end (cause these motors need more on the bottom... haha) good trail setup Im running these on my prox cant say a bad thing about em

39.5 Kehien D slides- also good setup works well if there are steering post issues and a rack isnt a practical option slightly harder throttle pull than the racks easy to setup and build biggest problem was the carb parts such as jets, most people use mikuni stuff so its a bit harder to come by

40mm racks- I just built the setup using jims shafts it was money well spent! Makes the twin racks fall together very easy and clean! I havent gotten any seat time on this setup but I think im gunna be very happy with em! im right at $400 for the whole triple rack!

I rode a 1500wc a few weeks ago that had some 48 lectrons with 9-1xl needles and I was blown away at how crisp it was all the way through from idle to WOT and every spot in between, but it was a set of matched needles and a very anal tuner! If people could buy a set of lectrons, install em and have em run like this setup did there would be no other carb to buy, but this is few and far between!
