Air?

I see you guys are running both pod filter and airbox. What's the story here?

Used to think the pods would have way more airflow an henca must be better. But things like the exhaust finding it's way back into the bellypan, snow over the hood, even guys saying sleds in moition creating a lowpressure behind the cylinders..... getting me thinking about where to get my air.

Any one tried both ways for a mountain sled?

Wow, that's an awesome run Ninja. Sorry to see the deto. Are you remapped to get the extra timing? We ran a "king of the trail" shootout yesterday, the most I could muster was 107. With trail studs, I spun the first 150 ft. and probably overshifted the whole way down. Your sled must be trying to strip your hands off the bars with those numbers. Do you mind sharing your set up? I'm turning 82 grams 8450 now with an almond spring. Still running a team though. Where you at with needles? My 7-2xl needles are still lean in the middle, fat on the bottom, fat on top. I got 2 miles to the gallon yesterday.

if your fat on the top and your p jets are closed then your 7-2 are to rich try 6-2 or 5-2 if they are lean in the mid then try a 5-3 would be my recomondation.

Yep it is a high volume, worked last 2 years just changed the carbs-engine seems like it is full of fuel, fouling, going to drain/ vaccum it out today and see what happens.

Sounds like the needle and seat might have leaked on one of the carbs. Mine did that when I first put them on then they were fine.

BTW, both of my fuel pumps were under the motor, mounted to the bulkhead.

Ninja!!! wall-hanger pistons for story time over a beer. Keep'r going man.

Sleeper buddy sounds like your in for a road of tuning. Been there, done that and still doing that. Spinning and over shifting brings back a lot of memories. Test,Test,Test. As far as timing goes the reprogrammed box pulls out a straight 3 degrees up to the rev limiter. (10,000). The sled doesn't rip my hands off because I'm afraid to drive it. My son and his buddy are my drivers. They really get off on it. My setup won't help ya because of the nitrous and Jaws pipes.

Lynn, have every intention of keeping her going. We wrecked a piston and went out to celebrate. We hit our mark for the weekend and with more testing can get better. We had to wait until about 20' off the line to hit the button (20%hit) and had to set the programmer to 4 seconds for full power. If we can get the power to the ice in less time we will really be hauling some mail.

Every good tuner should have a few pistons for a collection. How else would you know when to go back a notch?

Lectron needles

Anyone have 5-3xl lectron needles they want to sell. I have 7-2's for trade, hell I'd even take some 6-3's for kicks.

ive always ran pods with a mesh hood. once the snow sets up the hoods off. I have never had a issue with em.

Jim runs a air box. lots of work to get it fit. he runs great too.

I dont really think it matters as long as you have a mesh hood. If your running a stock like hood, then i would run the air box. Personaly i would run the mesh. get that heat out away from your clutches.

thats my comment....:D

I couldnt agree more! These motors make alot of underhood heat, the more you can get out the better! I run mine without a hood as much as possible and it really makes a noticeable diffrence especially when climbing it makes it run alot richer!

air box

I am running an xc airbox in my edge chassis. This is the box with the removable front and top. It also has the oil bottle molded right in. This works well for a burp bottle with a little work. It takes a little work to get 3 carbs in the front but it is doable. If you use the stock 600 boots two carb will go right in the first two holes. If you use UBR flanges you will have to do some more plastic work. This Is by far the besr looking and performing airbox in these chassis.

I need a set of pipes for my project the ones I bought last year off here do not fit in the edge chassis with brads plate they must be for another chassis. Where is the best place for a quick set of pipes?

The twin mag housing will bolt right on as well, but good luck keeping a waterpump/oil pump belt on the thing! The 1200's have alot of harmonics that wouldtake its toll on that POS belt! Go with brads mag housing and premix.

Brad's mag housing set it the best evolution of this motor to date. Itaddresses the flywheel taper (non required now) and now there is no need to machine the crank case like the UBR set up. Way to go Brad, Kevin Hansen would be proud!!!! RIP
