What year/version of the Pol button do you run?

How does it perform?

Thanks,

RS

I dont know if i missed reading it somewhere in here, but i was kinda curious as to how reliable a 1200 is? Was thinking of starting a build this summer and was just wondering, I have been following this thread for quite some time now so im just trying to get the basics for now, so i halfway know what i might be getting into... :P THANKS ALL!

I have a friend that built a 1050 in 98, its ten years old, two sets of pistons and 1 crank rebuild from launching to hard in an orchard testing for grass drags with 280 or so studs, so yes this sled isnt babied! just twisted the crank a few degrees. Has over 10K miles on it and has been through 3 diffrent chassis!!!!

If you run factory pistons and build the motor correct it will easily outlive a twin 800 since these motors fire every 120 vs 180, there is less strain, more balance and more reliability.

Same here, I have about 5 friends that have been running either Union Bay or Struther's watercraft motor for more than 7-8yrs. They take care of them in the off season, replace a set of pistons every 2-3 years and just ride the crap out of them in the winter, except for some minor things, not an issue.

Hallo RS, har hatt 4 (W/C)trippler de siste 5 åra å jeg er ikke i tvil om hva som er best........den gammeldagse knott variatoren til Polaris er den beste;)
Hehe,no ska amerikaneran få spekuler hardt på ka som står her:beer;

So far this motor rocks! It can tear up a weak chassis though and rachet a track like no other. I have about 500 miles on mine and no motor issues.

Yeah I couldnt believe extroverts could ratchet even with a tight track!!!!

So, what is the most expensive part of the build?

single part would be a new crank or new pipes. there each around 1100 bucks.......or a HRP WAS $1200......

if ya bought everything new....your lookin at around 6-7 G for the build....:D...If I remember right

you can budget build one for around 4 G tops

I have about 6500 in my whole build! Start to finish including chassis!! biggest hit was the crank, been scavanging freebees for about 1 1/2-2 years though! It helps to know the right people!!

holz prox 144, coilover, 45" wide front with tripple rate works shocks, rolled CC, U-Cooler, MF lightwieght +2" hood custom painted, fly bars, scattered ti nuts and bolts, flexi skis, MM freedom axel kit, digi 4 window, 1200 ves, ultra ign, 13.5:1 compression, tcat rackslide carbs, CS pipes fitted by myself and a friend, and im sure im forgetting some stuff but no corners cut on this build!!

I own 3 poo button clutches, 2 are the later style with the belt deflection adjustment and one of the older style without the adjuster. My favorite button set up:
Deep and steep is 2.15:1 gearing, SLP MOUNTAIN 50/36 with Polaris gray spring in middle hole.
Spring time is 2.00:1 gearing, SLP MOUNTAIN 52/36 with same spring.
went through buttons rather quickly compared to a stock twin cyl. Always kept them with fresh large bushings in, changed them out when teflon started to wear off.

4Z: Thanks, making some notes here. Have Poo button, TEAM and a Bearcat machined to run "narrow" belts.

Be interesting to test them.

Woody: Jau!

Rune

I figured most of the expense is in the crank. I can probably scrounge up enough parts and have my local shop rebuild it. There is no getting around the pipes, but most of this I can find for a reasonable price.

Pol button gets my wote!

My TRAIL 1050 pulls 8400rpm (digatron) with this setup:

Pri: Polaris p-85 with 82gram weights and SLP 160-300 spring
Sec: Polaris button with r12(50-36) and Polaris grey spring (20-84)
second hardest setting.
Gear: 24-40 and 8 tooth(2.52) drivers.
Track is a 151x2 fingertrack with 500 kold kutters.
Chassie is customised 1996 aggressive, and I weigh 240 suited up.
This is at an altitude of 1000'

Go figure!!

Going to try a 50-42 helix tomorrow.
