The watercraft crank wont handle the RPM and power. You take two 800 twin cranks and make one triple crank. 1200psi can hook ya up if your looking for one.

So can you apply that to pipes as well? I mean, can you take 3 800 Twin pipes (from twin pipe sets) and make them work with a 1200. I know there would be some cutting/rotating to fit them together, would that work?

You can get crankshop stampings and fit them yourself or buy them fitted from crankshop. Yes they are designed for the 800 twin. Crankshops seem to be the best pipes for these motors as they are for the twin as well.

From reading through the 11 pages of this thread I've gathered that the CS pipes are the ones most prefer for the 1200. I'm just trying to find a cheap solution to pipes as I'm not a fan of paying $1,000 + for a set. Because I know that this summer I can probably pick up two sets of 800 Twin pipes for a few hundred as long as I can get them to work right

its not just getting the pipes to fit thats the problem, you also need to keep them the same length, you cant have any scraps or add to one pipe and not the other(s). I have about 7-8 cuts on my mag, 5 or so on the center, and about 12 on the pto pipe, There is about 80 degrees diffrence between the pto and other two pipes given the same jetting between carbs, the CS pipes are very forgiving and work great for these motors but still each cut takes out volume and length which affects performance, especially if you cut in the expansion chambers its taking out that much more volume. You need to cut pie shaped wedges out of the section of pipe your wanting to fit, turn it to make the pipe bend in the disired direction. Its alot of work and takes skill to do correctly, It took me and a buddy of mine about 20 hours start to finish on my CS pipes.

Powdersledder I thought the same thing when doing my motor. Considered SLP, CPI, but after some research and listening to Brad the CS pipes are best. Im sure prices vary in the winter but I picked mine up for $800 unfit with silencers and hardware. Trust me save your dough and get the CS pipes. You can even find these used and fitted for a decent price if you look long enough. I will be selling mine in the spring or summer when I up to a IQR chassis.

Once I start on a 1200 I plan on puttin it into an IQ, I assume used pipes would be pretty hard to find for that

I've never made a set of pipes before but once I get a hold of a Tig welder I think it'd be a fun side project to try and make my own pipes, but it'd be easier not to start completely from scratch. So I figured working over some 800 twin pipes would work

I want whats in your icon snowstar:D

Im glad i spent the doe on having my pipes made. there a ***** if ya have never done em and easy to mess up if your not careful. if your gonna try to make em I would suggest getting some good pics from these guys that have them in there IQs or if you can even see em in person. Jim has made a few sets now but he made cardboard templates of each pipe.

good luck.

If anyone needs a UBR mag housing I got one for sale. Complete with a 650 flywheel cut for the twin tapper. The mag housing and flywheel is brand new, never used. PM me if you are interested.

To my knowlage the 1050 and 1200 cases are basically the same and need to be flycut for the snow cyls, the WC cyls are diffrent.

My cases were from a 1200 watercraft that were warranteed by my dealer (freebie)! and had to be flycut for the 800 snow cyls.

Does a ported and unported 1200s turn the same RPM? Anyone have unported 1200s dynoed? Where was peak hp and torque. Im up to 70 g weights in the primary and it likes it, turns 8250.

Im gonna dyno my sled..un ported sooner or later. Doug ported Jims and on the dyno the pipes are what makes the sled run diff RPMs. Jims pipes wanted 8500 rpm and we put mine on and they wanted 8200. His engine made more a few more horse with my pipes at 8200 rpm. jim made his pipes run 8200 now, and his sled is rockin!!

we could have tucked the PTO pipe down a bit more but it clears the VES cap, the hood, I can still change that plug, plus there were enough cuts in it as it was, we didnt want to make anymore since the others had about half the amount of cuts.

They fit good and I can take them out in about 3 minutes!

Secondary?

Anyone have thoughts about what to use and what not?

See all these posts about what secondary is better because of this and that, but wondering on these big triples what you guys have had success with??

Roller? Button? TEAM?

I know alot of people like buttons for dragrace since you dont worry about backshift, but also remember something about rollers shifting "to fast"(?) and just keep jumping back and forth (not steady)?

Any thoughts?

I have not seen a cat roller work in one.
I have seen a team, cat button and my favorite polaris button work in them.

Snowstar, all the other things like rider weight, track length, gearing, riding style all play a role in which weight works for you. I am running 70 grams, geared 2.05 19/39 with a 162 2.4 track and I weigh about 300 dressed for the snow. I would like to be geared in the 2.26 range when boondocking in 4-5 ft of powder in the deep dark trees, but dont want to sacrifice the track speed on the big hills.

On another note, I have found a spring last year that absolutely rocks for the primary, its a grey 120-360 from HRP. It has a low 3500 engaugement for the deep dark trees, but has a tall finish rate so you can really swing some weight for wicked belt squeeze.
