Colorado Forum Ride 2012: Place and dates set

date?

So is it location or the date that's messing it up.im always up for different locations,as for dates I know that alot of rides are always planned for presidents day weekend, but you really want to have it on a 3 day holiday. So that leaves mlk or presidents day

Maybe next year Bushy. Presidents Day has always been the weekend and it SHOULD stay that way. But it's too late now as far as getting rooms, cabins and the like. It's too late for most donations. Last year I had all of my confirmations by November. After that, it was just a waiting game for receiving them and boxing it up.

I'd personally like to hit CB/Irwin on a nice weekend and split a room with some friends and Kaleb too, I'd like to hit GM and split some room rates. With my schedule and family, hitting WC or Silverton prolly isn't the best choice right now. Maybe we can organize some smaller rides and share trailers/trucks and explore other areas.

Kaleb you just volunteered to be the social dirctor ;).

QUOTE=backcountryislife;2814845]OK, so where are we going for president's day weekend? If that's the one that works, we'll make it work.[/QUOTE]

So what ever happened to Vagabond for that weekend? If that place won't work there are plenty of options around grand lake. Either motel or rent a big cabin set up for larger groups. I googled VRBO and there are a bunch of places that will accomodate large groups. Fill a house, get another one next door or down the block and fill it too. Affordable when filled up to.

Did a quick search of what's available over pres W/E. Some are ride in/out.

Grand Lake http://www.vrbo.com/vacation-rentals/usa/colorado/northwest/grand-lake

Always wanted to stay here too. Up near Hahns peak/steamboat lake. Ride in/out Midnight Ranch. And there's plenty of off trail riding...just get off the trail! http://www.midnightranch.com/

Crested Butte has a mansion that sleeps 20 something...http://www.vrbo.com/vacation-rentals/usa/colorado/southwest/crested-butte-area/crested-butte

Grand Mesa has a few. http://www.vrbo.com/vacation-rentals/usa/colorado/northwest/grand-mesa

This would rock!

This place is right off CO Rd 12 on the way up the hill to Irwin. Almost think you could ride right from the house? or a couple minutes drive. About 4 miles from the upper parking. We rode a spot on the north side of the road about 2 miles up that was a blast. Bohica, where was that spot? Paste this grid coord into google earth 38°52'12.21" N 107°00'19.83" W

I bet we could fill the place pretty easy. Works out to 50 to 100 a night.

Midnight Guest Ranch location 40°51'44.52" N 106°57'42.87" W Pretty much right at the main trailhead parking. Hahns peak is right across the road and has plenty of good boondockin.

C'MON PEEPS............who else is in?? lets make this happen. those who haven't been on the forum ride it is a kick in the butt! you get a chance to ride with all the people that talk out of there azz on these forums and show them whats up... :second:

I think the CB house would be a hoot if we could get 20 people to commit some bucks.

I'm thinking more the Midnight Ranch. Always nice to ride from the door. We won't have any problem filling one house and the other house is there if more want to jump on-board. Big hot-tub at one of the places too :D Also have SLO lodging for last minute deciders. I'll make a few calls.

I had asked for different dates.

And what did Brandon say? lol

Also, for peeps that want to attend, but also want the option of backing out, I'm pretty sure we can cover that. We had such a great turnout last time I did that, that it was no problem refunding a few poeple. I think the only guy that back out of that ride was ALLREVEDUP though:face-icon-small-sho So if you want in you'll have to pony up a deposit, but you can probably back out if need be.

And what did Brandon say? lol

Unfortunatley (well not really) we have a previous 2 week sled trip that spans Pres weekend

The question was put out...what dates were good? I simply responded with not Pres weekend...and I guess enough other people said the same to Sway Ralph.

I think the location dissuaded some? Going on a ride and having beers/meals with a group of, somewhat, strangers is one thing. But bunking under 1 roof was kind of a turnoff.

There is a name for that....its called Friday.

I didn't want pres day wkend either, but it seems the easiest for most people, so whatever.

Myself, if we go back to SLO, we're out. That was the most boring riding area I've ever been to. I had a fun day with the crew, but the riding was pitiful.

Just cause I've got a short track... doesn't make me like putting on miles for the sake of it!!:face-icon-small-win

I think the "all in" accommodations were part of the problem with Vagabond, Personally, I'm fine with just individuals finding hotel rooms (very easy in CB at least) as that makes the cat herding much easier.

I think had we just each been able to send our $$ to Jeremy, we'd still be good with Vagabond, but the not knowing how much $$ it was really going to be, the needing one person to put down a deposit... was probably what killed it. The same happened to another trip people had planned with a similar situation.

I had asked for different dates.

Alot of people did. But in all honesty making a long road trip for Saturday and Sunday is not the best idea. Most folks here have to work Mon thru Friday and don't have the flexible schedule that some of us enjoy. So President's Day Weekend always made the most sense as most people could plan way ahead and arrange that day off (since it's just a govt. holiday)

There is a name for that....its called Friday.

I meant more of a bigger group and going somewhere different and just chilling. Driving to Kremmling and staying at the Allington with the same guys isn't what I meant. That is not a jab, so please don't assume it was. I very rarely get to go anywhere else and ride and stay away from a naggin wife, barking dogs and roughhousing kids. Meaning, that I just pop up to RE every weekend, ride, come home and do it again the next day. It would be nice to get away and try some new terrain.

Kaleb, there really is way more to that area than you realize. The weather sucked and visibility was horrid. We had riders in the group that I did not trust to take into more technical terrain. If I had done that, somebody most likely would have gotten hurt, busted a sled (that couldn't be ridden out). On a sunny, bluebird day right after a powder dump, the possibilities are endless up there. But we couldn't get to that area. It wasn't ideal and I didn't want a hurt newb or young girl on my head. If the weather had been better, we would have never seen the trail. Granted, there aren't any monster "above treeline" hits that launch you for 100s of feet but there are some natural hits that give you a rush. The point of a forum ride is to ride with other people and just ride and chill. That was the worst ride I have had in years. People got mad at other people, tempers flared, words were said, the stupid party that SLO allowed "AFTER" we had booked the place topped it all off and most were pissed off. I don't think SLO is in the books in the future. Not after that BS.

If dates work out where it can be a weekend towards the end of the month there are 3 of us you can count in. Work is busy up until the 18th or 20th of each month, but after that things open up. If something is decided upon, and people need a deposit, say the word and tell me where to send it.

I rode in 6 states last year....nothing to it but to do it.

Its "YES DEAR" the entire off season....a simple equation really

happy wife = happy life

Sledding is the only thing I do without my family...So being gone 50-60 days in the winter doesn't seem like much. Once the sleds are away its all family time and I wouldn't have it any other way.
