castlegar area

i ride ladybird,Norns mostly, probley hit the bombi and rover.were callin for more snow over night!!

Was up the Bombi on Sunday, probed 6' in the cutblocks past Grady, didn't head down to Marble, the alders are probably still pretty tall. Top of switchbacks overlooking Castlegar is windblown as usual. Watched a guy nail a rock and do a nice header over the bars there! :( Luckily no damage.

I see mention of joining the Castlegar club if locals are riding Norns/Ladybird and that's a great idea. Have you joined Beaver Valley club yet? They are grooming Bombi now, Sunday was getting bumpy, hopefully they will get up there this week. I can get anyone membership forms, let me know.

i heard theres lots of problems up at the bomi parking lot, people threatning other people about poping there tier on trucks, blocking them in becuase there not memebers,my dads friend got blocked in up there and the people that blcked him in were whatchin him squesseing in between truck and cars while they were at the fire,i think it a bunch a bullsh*t

Anyone get out on the weekend? I missed out too much BS and no one around on monday :(

How was the powder, I imagine fairly rediculous?

Also does anyone have monday's off and want to ride around Nelson/c-gar? I do, but need more people to go with.....go to rover, norns, giveout, wherever. Somewhere there's some powder play areas relatively out of avy-range with the current conditions.

Let me know,

Jason

What day was this? I know it was a gong show on New Years day, always a ton of people up there, not just sledders. Families with kids as well as the drunks finishing off their New Years boozin.

So, are you not going to be riding the Bombi? I wouldn't let a couple of idiots stop you from enjoying it, Marble is a lot fun. Let me know and I can get you a membership form if you plan on riding there this season, they're not collecting trail passes, but they do need memberships to pay for the new groomer they bought last year.

I've heard of people getting hassled last season up Goose and Ladybird, members at the bottom being very authoritive (is that even a word? :D) about non-members having to pay for trail passes, suggesting people buy a membership instead of a day pass, basically saying it's their land and if you're not a member, you can't go. Typical politics.

Maybe if there weren't 9000 different club memberships to buy around here, all within 15 minutes driving of each other, the clubs would have better luck. They really need to amalgemate (sp?) some of these.....

There was a suggestion last year on Castlegars forum about reduced membership dues for people who were already a member of another local group. Unfortunately it hasn't seen any progress with the Castlegar club officials. Not sure why there has always been fighting between clubs, I agree an amalgamation of a few local clubs would do a world of good, charge one larger fee, say $100 to join all of them and I bet the total member number would increase greatly.

I'm a member of the Slocan valley club and have been barking up the amalgamation tree for 2 years.

Everyone *****es about not joining other clubs. I personally ride the valley the most, castlegar second, nelson third, and beaver valley the least.

Me and my girlfriend are not joining 4 clubs.....sorry!

I have talked with castlegar club and tryed to get a half price membership if we were Slocan valley members and we'd do the same for the gar members. I was told that maybe a discounted membership would be possible, like 10 bucks off, no thanx.

The way I see it my 25 bones is better then 0 bones.

Any way 2 years of pushing for it..........Fu(k it! I give up!

you have tried for 2 years ???? you were told to get the Slocan club to get hold of us ,they have never done this. we told all members of our agm. 120+ members 9 showed up it was decided then not to do discounts as there has been no input. we were letting members from other local clubs ride at no charge then found out they hadn't been members of the other clubs for years or just plain lied so that was the end of that. our membership is $50 before jan1 after that $60 we have 98 paid members this year excellent start to the season thanks to all. under our management agreement we can collect trail passes we can not stop anyone from going but we would like the non-payers to not ride on the groomed trails, don't use the propane and wood at the cabins as this is what the money pays for and we have to maintian to keep our agreement. pun intended on last part but i'm sure someone will whine. everything done by the castlegar club is voluntary it would be nice if more members would help out. we are trying to get enough funds to buy a newer groomer as it is taking to much time -12hours -right now and by the end of the weekend it is pounded from all the riders using it. we are doing the best we can and for all the ones that seem to have all the anwsers please step up to the plate and do something for your club . thx wayne

I was in no way trying to belittle the efforts of any club or clubs. Someone said that there were some issues between members/non-members and I was simply stating that in this area, you WILL wind up with a lot of members riding other areas because they are so close and plentiful.

I have no problem paying for 1 (and I do), nor would I have a problem paying a reasonably higher amount that got me a few. But $50-$60 X 4 or 5....all to ride areas a few miles apart is not happening for most people.

If after your primary club was paid up you got a good break, I think more would be interested and the total $$ amount would be higher. When I bought my Nelson membership for $60, if there would have been an option for some type of "West Kootenay Pass" for $100 or $120 I wouldn't have even flinched and I bet most others would agree as they mentioned above. Just my 2 cents, not intended to offend anyone.

I see your point Wayne, and if I decided to ride Norns/Ladybird again I would be happy to pay $10 to ride a nice groomed trail for the 1 or 2 times a year I would go. The difference between Norns and Revy is Revy grooms on a nightly basis, so I am happy to fork out for a trail pass - almost guaranteed smooth ride to the alpine. With Goose ck, it's hard to keep it that way. And yes, if you had the membership Revy does you could do it. But this is small town C-gar, so we're talking 2 totally different things.

And if someone actually didn't want to pay for a day pass, how is it they can get to the alpine without using the groomed trail? Last time I checked there were no shortcuts up Goose? :D

I join one club every year, it's Beaver Valley only because that's where I live not because I only ride Bombi, and I prefer to ride the lesser known/travelled areas and deal with a few moguls.

On the topic of local clubs and fund raising (isn't that what membership is all about?), what do you guys think of this? Seems arrogant to me, poker runs are for raising funds as well as attracting new members. Not by forcing people to join the club then support them by buying poker hands and 50/50 tickets. I know of a lot of people who only ride other clubs areas for the poker run, they sure as hell aren't going to buy a $60 membership just to ride once.

ATTENTION SNOWMOBILERS: The West Kootenay SnoGoers are having a (Members Only Poker Run) Jan. 13/08 at the 24 mile snogoers cabin. Registration 9:30am 'til 12pm, memberships on sale at cabin. Lunch provided.

excellent responses guys thanks for not tearing my lips off. Jay that sounds like a great idea but seems to be hard to get all the clubs to agree but definitely is something to look at in the future. Kevin you are right there are no shortcuts without riding groomed trails and we cannot stop someone from going on them, but without the efforts of the club would we even still have access to these areas?Let's hope a stray caribou doesn't walk this way,you know what i mean.Alberto looks after the grooming for us and does an excellent job, remember all for free Revy has a paid employee now,but the numbers dictate that. We were grooming once a week usually tues or wed but people found out and rode during the week or night rides and by the weekend the trails were beat ,so now it gets done at the end of the week so hopefully the members that work all week can benefit from what they pay for, last spring Al was grooming twice a week to try keep the trails in good shape. We are hoping to buy a newer machine to speed up the time being spent grooming which is why we need money and remember we are all volunteers. thx for the good input wayne

whos going or attending in the metior mine hillclimbs???its on sunday febuary 10th

We're planning on attending the gong show, always fun watching other guys roll $15,000+ worth of sled down the hill! :D Got some good video couple years ago too, one of Kyle when he hurt his back. That was nasty to watch.

Anyone collecting trail pass' at Springer this year? Never seen anyone there last couple times up.

I'll probably go....although my back hurts just thinking of that long *** ride back down to 6 mile.

Last year was worth it for the carnage alone LOL
