Carbed 2 stroke turbo guy's !!!

Unfortunately its not. Funds had to go to an attorney, trying to get full custody of my son. So if anyone needs parts look me up in the swapmeet. I'll end up building one though, hopefully in the next couple yrs. Maybe a 1050, and I know just the peeps to help!

What a bummer. I haven't worked on mine either. I don't suppose your selling a 2871 by any chance? I'm wondering how important triple pipe collector design is. One of my pipes expansion chamber ends about 6" behind the other 2 pipes so one would be further from the turbo, I think equal length would be best if possible.

If your planning on running a 2781 on a triple it would be too small. I was going to run a 3076, the two strokes need lots of air to breathe! Everyone will tell you your crazy for using that big of a turbo, but wait till you have it finished! Ask Gus, he will say the same. I just sold my 3076 a few months ago. I have a fuel pump, power jets, and a oil tank, probably some other stuff as well.

Oh and from what I know, the collector is easier then you would think. I'm pretty sure you'd be alright with your pipes as they are.

Agreed, Gus mentioned this on page 2 as well:

Am I reading you right that you ONLY have a 50mm compressor wheel ??
that in itself is suspect as I would not expect anything smaller than a 71mm wheel for a 780 triple pipe triple..

your compressor sizing should be targeted at 400-500 hp.. triple piped triples need at leaast 40% more compressor ..than say a single piped triple or a single piped twin..

I saw some pictures of a collector built for a 780 triple/triple that Mn Turbo posted on page 2 as well. I think I could fab something like that and use my PSI pipes.

Gus recommended a 2871 for the 700 triple with .64 A/R on the hot side. I think it would work for lower boost, I only need 8 PSI

The big thing holding me back is getting the crank welded, I just don't feel like tearing back into the engine, welding the crank and starting the build, wish I could just throw the turbo on it with the stock crank.

Correct. 56 mm comp wheel with .82 hot side. That turbo is rated for 530 HP. That bigger wheel would take longer to spool.

What engine are you running? Gus told me that my stock xcr crank should hold up to 400 HP.

Yamaha mountain max 700. I guess the red head cranks couldn't handle more than 160HP even with a big bore, welding is a must. I'm pushing it already so I'll have to bite the bullet and get it welded. I still need a turbo and to build a few things like a collector before I'm ready for the install anyway. Won't be this winter, would like to have it for next season though.

I know a guy that built a 700 Yamaha turbo. Maybe he or one of his buddies will chime in. They already have all the hard stuff figured out!

Yeah that would be great! haven't ran into many guys that made it work. Gus built one, powderlights did. And Dan Ricter had one as well, just don't hear about many of them around though.

of course it can be done, there were folks( i'm sure gus was one) putting old aerochargers on xlts in the 90's. i hate to say it but from the posts in the regular turbo threads there are alot of people who can't even figure out how to turbo a fuel injected motor. i wouldn't listen to them for sure, infact i'm not!

Still can't believe how many guys say "It can't be done!!!" when I say I want to turbo a triple 2 stroke lol.

Lol, true. Although I wouldn't know the first thing about tuning a fuel injected engine either...

I still run into some guys that work at shops that don't think a triple can be turbo'd. I know it can, and have seen them, but they just haven't been in the business that long? IDK.

Anyway, with triple pipes I hear it can be a bit harder to tune. Were the Yamaha's you saw running triples or single?

i would imagine you would have to play with how your pipe is fed to the turbo and hence where the turbo is located, i'm thinking you would have them collect then wrap around in a 90 to the turbo, kind of like this (picture triples instead of large single, and don't look at the fuel inj. motor)

you don't want the pipes going straight into the turbo, they would just fill each other instead of spinning the turbo

As much as I am doing what I am best at ....... Being a smart azz. I honestly can't remember. I will see if I can dig through my vids sometime. I can tell you this. When the turbines come out in my group, my twin is out numbered by triples.

Is that a Twisted sled or home brew? Very nice!!
