Camoplast Tracks: 2.5" Peak vs. 2.6" Power Claw vs. 3" Challenger Extreme

One thing I should add as people are talking about suspension setups. I have a Timbersled rear skid(love it) and tried adjusting limiter strap settings and other pre load settings, but it didn't make any difference. Owell....

300 miles on my 2014 pro with 156 X3. Sled is stock other than track and Kmod skid. First thing i noticed is that it runs way hotter on the trail. My 2012 155 was usually always around 125-140 max and the 14 with X3 is 165-190.(Both with scratchers down on freshly groomed trail.) Second thing was CRAZY traction compared to the stock track on the 12(I did the f-bomb track mod on that sled). First trip was a bit of a learning curve as the track made the sled handle a lot different. Seemed way harder to ride in technical situations. It felt like there was a lot more ski pressure and was pushing more compared to stock. Everything was happening a lot quicker as well because I was moving forward rather than just spinning. I came home from that trip kind of on the fence as there was good and bad. Kmod skid was set up to Kevins instructions as far as limiter strap, shock preload and compression dampening( took skid directly from 12 and put it in the 14). I installed RSI Burandt bars(2'' lower than stock), and let my limiter straps out 1 hole and switched the coupling block from 3 to 1 for the next trip and it was a totally different machine. Now I was in a totally different location from the first trip with a little different snow conditions but all I can say now is that I am 100% sold. Sled felt way lighter on the skis while boondocking, and still maintained exceptional climbing ability. I could easily out climb a 2010 M8 with 162 CE 2.5. I have the stock clutching for now and was only pulling 7900-8050RPM so I'm sure there is room for improvement there. I do feel that it probably could benefit from lower gearing as well as I could smell belt and pulled a few cords while riding hard for extended periods. Over all after a bit of set up for my riding I'm confident that this track is the real deal for backcountry riding and will most definitely take my riding to the next level. One other thing to note was that while climbing in approx 2' of fresh I was getting 38-40 mph track speed.
Cheers :face-icon-small-coo

I,m running 2.4 gearing on the 3C belt drive along with 7 tooths, Top speed is only 70+ like that matters, however i,m running a true 1-1 on a climb with 60+ track speed on a powder climb. granted this is on a Doo 880 mod but the low gearing really works better with the traction. Yes Motor runs Hotter, If you put One 1 inch port only behind the center paddle[ every other window] snow will spray the cooler and with port behind paddle it will not cheese grade at all, brings motor temp down considerably. Also noted is your running the 156 also and is a different paddle design than Oberti was running, There very well could be a difference, its not his first rodeo,,Although he has a habit of getting bucked from the saddle,,thinking Velcro, Lol

So, lots and lots tried the pc 2,25 on their pros. Carls even made a good business on it, but there are almost no one that have tried the 2,6 pc??

Please chip in if you have some ride reports!

I'd still like to hear any performance differences between the Camo Extreme 3" (2 ply) and the Camo X3 3" (single ply).

Winter Brew compared and commented ," if you can find the old style grab it "in one of his old post last season.

I'll have to see if I can find that.

I see that TracksUSA is not publishing weights anymore.

camoplast website posts weights. I am curious to what winterbrew thinks of the two 3" track options, I am really liking the X3 but if your regularly in icy conditions I can see your concerns. overheating, traction loss on icy climbs.

My 3x156 rides the same as the older 2.5 Camo extreme, works same on set and ice as older designed Camo. Only difference is the motor does run hotter, even when spinning in the deep less snow is pushed up through the tunnel and cooler .it has extreme pull/traction in the deep.. Its not a great all round track, Its a mountain track Only.not for racing down the trails at all.running up to 50 is no problem on trail in.. The new design has no teeth and is flat, straight /flat paddles typically are not good on ice and set snow and may be contributing to the handling complaints.

Download the catalog on camoplastsolideal.com. It has all the weights of any track they make.

Product page:

Catalog: page 31 & 33.
They don't show the Camo Extreme in a 156x3" lug in a 15 wide.
The X3 in a 156 comes in at 56lbs.

the 162x3" 9220 is 59 lbs shipped with a box

it was stamped on my box when I bought it, 59 lbs shipped weight.
last March went up an icy knob , almost made it to the top , then sled stopped moving forward, track was spinning, then starting sliding backwards- not fun at all, 3" is worthless on ice. also sled got hot on hardpack trail- spring riding, no snow on the coolers, plus you have to jury rig your flap or the track gobbles it up.

We have tried some experimenting on the new X3 flat edge paddle. We took a leather hole punch and put five 1/2 holes, kinda looks like a " U" in tip of paddle. A round hole doesn't tear like a " V " cut into the paddle. Worked much better in icy conditions.
