Buying American Made save your future

I agree, it's a vicous cycle. However, even with Subaru for instance, you have the dealer who's making money off the sale, you have the mechanic that works on them, you have the salesman who sells them, the sales manager, the parts manager, the lot boy, the finance person, the electric company that provides the electricity, the county and state that gets the sales tax, the property tax, the income tax. You get my point. There are alot of Americans that are making money from these foreign companies, it's not just the foreign company. Just like there are foreign consumers making money by selling Ford cars and trucks in Germany. Hell, even terrorists support Toyota, look at all the trucks they buy. My point is like I said above, we live in a global ecomomy. Let me just say though, I own two Ford trucks, I ride a Harley, I own a John Deere Tractor and am a Union member and have no problems riding my Ski-doo and Yamaha snowmobiles wearing my Klim gear and boots. Probably burning gas that was produced in a foreign country and shipped on a foreign boat with foreign boat workers. It just never ends. Insane. LOL!!

Sounds great and patriotic....but the bottom line is the majority of people (not all), are extremely price concious. I hear lots of guys bragging that they bought an American made truck from a domestic automaker.....which is great. Then they throw in the disclaimer that they only bought it because of the $10,000 factory cash back + chiseled all of the dealer's profit out of him for another few grand. Well, that's great I guess. If buyers truly believed the product was on par, or superior to overseas products, one would think they'd be willing to pay a price that would allow some profit....

I normally hate jumping in on a subject like this that hits so close to home. I'm a UAW member (Ford) here in Michigan who proudly spends my vacation budget snowmobiling in Star Valley Wyoming. I know its tough to scrape up the extra dollars it sometimes takes to buy american products or support American businesses when the alternative is so much cheaper, but in the end its worth it. I just bought a new gear bag made by FILSON (Washington) and it was way more expensive than the alternatives, but worth every penny to know that those dollars are helping fellow Americans support their families. I rely on these same people to buy Ford products to support my family. I ride Polaris, buy John Deere tractors, drive Ford trucks, wear Hoffman Boots, and take pride in the fact that these products were assembled by our fellow Americans.

The next time your out riding that groomed trail, boondocking in the backcountry or enjoying that beer at your local snowmobile lodge/ hang out. Ask yourself were the money that feeds our snowmobile clubs, resorts, rental facilities, dealerships and other snowmobile reliant businesses comes from. I'm quite confident you'll find a hard working fellow snowmobiler who relies on the choices you make when purchasing products.

I'm sorry this hit's so close to home for you but its WAY bigger than Quality and price, what about agenda?

Do you buy products from REI because they are an american company even though they give money and support to groups like the Sierra Club and others that want to take away your right to ride snomobiles, dirt bikes and hunting or even own a gun?

How about the thread on Black foot brewery, they're and American company. Should we buy there products and help them shut us down?

How about our brothers to the north and Mike Wiegele, would you go heli skiing with him after he writes an article about the need to shut down back country riding?

These groups pale in comparrison to the UAW and the agendas they support with YOUR MONEY, you give them the power push leftist, socialist issues. No thanks.

As stated above, Klim is made in China, the best product on the market and they actually help out our cause.

So go buy american, "when it makes sense". Peace - Eric

The owners of these companies are US based but they farm out the manufacturing for a much bigger profit. Curious what everyones thoughts are on this?

it is not so much for a bigger profit. Most companies put the same profit margin on there products. It is to have a product at a price that people will buy.

ie cost of product at a 42% profit margin.
$100=$172
$90=$155
$80=$137

same profit margin percentage but completely different selling prices.
That is why we import.

Didn't Polaris used to run Fuji motors for a while back in the day? is fuji an American company, oh wait I get it as long as Polaris is an American company it does not matter.

With a name like skidooer I should be the first to say I am guilty. I am ready to start buying and suppurting as many USA based companies As I can. As long as the product is comparable then buy in the USA. People in our country need production to increase so they can go back to work. Don;t givr me any **** about well the snowflap bolts for my yahmaha was made in usa. Just buy a Polaris or Artic Cat. You know they are Anerican companies paying Anerican workers in American fectories. Hell their kids are in school with your relatives kids. Try that with a product of Japan or Canada.

HAVE SOME PRIDE IN THE USA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!STOP BUYING YAMAHA, SKIDOO,

THe economy you save just me be the one that saves you.

Why are you drawing the line at the border, why not North America? Why not your State, county, town? You should think about trading with a country with similar ideology instead of just the good ol' USA!

We're not sick of you riding on our coattails...but suit yourself...

Good post I am buying USA and CAN the most I can.

Would rather not support China as I'm sure if they had the chance would do allot worse things to us than I would like to think about.

I don't think me switching to AC or Polaris is gonna save the economy. I drive Fords (decal on the window says parts made in Mexico, assembled in America). There isn't an American made dirtbike worth a chit, are there any USA made TVs, DVD players, Blu Ray players, Ipods, laptops, desktops and the list goes on. The economy is in the dumps because ALL of these large American companies are outsourcing jobs to Mexico, China, Korea, India and many other 3rd world countries.

I love the USA, unfortunately the USA does not love me.

PS, Arctic Cat uses a Suzuki motor. Where is that made?;);)

Only American.

What about oil, natural gas. hydro etc. The U.S. trades with many countries, some near and some far away. If these countries took the same road as this would advocate Americans take, what would U.S. or any other exporting nation have to export? I don't believe you can simply close your doors to all things not made in America and expect the rest of the world you normally trade with to simply suck it up.
The life style North Americans in general, have become accustom to is based on what they have to spend and that is based on what they earn. If things made here cost too much to be competitive in the marketplace we buy elsewhere,eg. Wallmart. Not much there is made on this continent because of much lower labor costs in other counties. Will we or can we buy all things made in North America instead of imported goods? Not too sure about that.

DITTO!!!!

I really try to buy American and do ride Poo (assembled in America) but I will never give the American auto unions a dime if I can help it. They support exactly what CleElum Sledhead said and had a huge part in taking down the auto industry, I'm done with them!! F-m!!

I hear Toyota and Nissan are coming out with Diesels in the US soon. I will be buying one of those 2 trucks next time period!

You must educate yourself son, WAGE labor accounts for about a whole 3% of the total cost of a vehicle. Management and lack of strategic planning put the auto industry where it is today. You can blame unions all you want, but you’re just lying to yourself if you honestly think that is the true problem.

On the flip side, the race for alternative energy has long begun. Whoever conquers that realm first will hold a true advantage in the next era of the auto industry. The left wing will have regulations so tight in another ten years you won't be able to buy a friggin fossil fuel vehicle.

100% correct, the list goes on and on to even clothes and food. If American made all these items we would not need a welfare system and the would no uneployment.

Yes and no.
Yes there will be an advantage with being first to perfect a new technology...that is evident with any industry, but....

We will always have our big diesel trucks, they may not be as polluting but they will still be there.
What is wrong with using an alternative fueled car? If you commute to work, and have a very predictable daily commute, why not go electric, or hydrogen?

As for buying American, just remember that everyone complains about high prices, and wants a good deal. This can't be achieved without buying from overseas.
Trade is good for both the U.S. and Canada. Both countries rely on it big time!

my 12 year old needed a new bike the other day ..went to Canadian tire and bought him a Supercycle ..18 speed mountain bike ....Made in Canada was why ..

X2 I am sick of hearing blah blah, buy American. You know when you buy something Canadian, we will turn around and most likely buy something American. I spend a lot of money buying products every year from the states and I am investing in some American companies. So what?

Products produced outside of the USA should have to be made to the same EPA, OSHA, pay and benefits standards that we have or there should be a tariff. Otherwise it is not fair trade.

Ah, a thinker. Require that all imports were made with the same environmental policies that we have, and worker safety. I guess product safety is already required.

Take carbon frame bicycles. I was told, they are not built in this country any more, because of environmental reasons. PCB boards, the board that all the electrical components are mounted on, in your desktop. There's almost no one left making them here, and if they are, their just making high dollar small quantity stuff. Take lumber, we shouldn't allow wood from regions of the world, where the forests aren't managed properly. Require their ships must meet our emissions standards, to dock.

Do all these things, and you raise their cost. And, level the playing field. Plus you aren't polluting the world from Asia, instead of here. Then all that's left is pay difference, but for many products that's a very small part of the cost.

And, if this carbon credit crap gets going, don't allow producers to ship products here, without buying carbon credits to offset the production.

Well as expected some of you are saying USA made sleds have some parts from out of country. No kidding! The point is more U.S. people benefit from supporting U.S. companies.

Also pointed out, U.S. based companies are not perfect business models. No kidding!

Ask yourself, If your line of work and supporting your family could be doing better if more Americans would supported what you do? What if your job went away because I justified buying a non-U.S. made sled or other item?

I can't believe how foolish people can be about this. Have things been this good in the USA for so long that people take it for granted? This country has made it's major advances after wars and things that make us WANT to pull together and be strong. Sending you money overseas when you don't have to is foolish.
