Butte Meadows / Jonesville

I'm told that Butte Meadows is suffering from 3+/- feet of pow disease. If weather eases then it should settle and set up nicely. I think madmin might have headed up today. IDK about Bambi, but was told Outpost will open Friday. Pretty sure the Merchantile is open today on.

I will be looking for you all. Hope to see you on the mountain.

I didn't go today, haven't had any current condition reports so not sure what to expect. All loaded and ready, might just head up there tomorrow or Friday and take my chances. It's a long day trip from Sac.

Oh boy! There is a little snow up here. From what I was told this pm, still some logging action over at fananni down towards yellow creek. Sleds have gone into warming hut and made the full loop. I guess it's a little tight in some places along robbers roost, but I'm sure that'll get widened out when the groomers go out. Perhaps a night ride. Should be clear with a full moon.:face-icon-small-hap

I would imagine that last 100 yards up to Humbolt Summit from the east would be one heck of a sidehill with all the snow!

Funny you say that, there was a group that was headed home last night and they had a newbie with them. They were the group that went round the loop. I believe the quote from the new guy " that was pretty farggin' narrow". Too bad that fella didn't ride that portion of the trail a few years ago; when it was farggin' narrow.:face-icon-small-win

Overcast and in the twenties this morning. Maybe will see some of you on the mountain.

Thanks to the groomers that helped get my 900 out yesterday you guys are the greatest Also thanks to Mooseknuckle and his candy cane rope because mine kept breaking. :face-icon-small-dis

Candycane strikes again! Glad to help. I'd recommend everyone to have one. Just go somewhere they sell lead ropes for livestock and buy it off the roll. I think that one is a 1" size. Mine is about 10' long. Could be a little longer, but isn't that always the case.:face-icon-small-blu

Hope you all have a safe and happy new year NorCal snowesters

Be looking for you all up the hill tomorrow.

I don't know what exactly is going on. I've heard that the logging company is trying to pull the last of their lumber out from the chips burn. I kinda doubt it'll go on the entire winter. I rode through there yesterday pm; wasn't bad but if it stays cold - it'll be a toboggan run.

I was surprised that me and the boy made he whole loop and never saw another sled save for the parking lot. I guess we were just behind everyone. There was a fire burning at the hut when we got there. Hung out an hour or so, but not a soul.

As a side note I might suggest that if anyone uses the fire place of the hut, please replace the kindling used to start the fire. I left a pile beside the stove on Sat and when we were there yesterday there was nada. Not a problem, unless you get there half froze in the middle of the night. I don't want to sound like a dick, but I think it's more of a safety obligation but also a courtesy. There is an ax in the wood room. But enough time on the soapbox.

poker run

The wife and I would like to come to the poker run. Never been to yours, only the Chester one and really enjoy it. We live in Janesville, so what would be the best way to get to your stageing area? I've heard that some from this side ride their sleds over from Lake Almanor. I have no idea how far that would be and if it would be better to start on the Butte Meadows side. Any info would be appreciated. ie, Directions to the stageing area, what time it starts etc.
Thanks,
Dean

Would love to have you! First off here is the info.

I think I would just roll to Chester and leave from the West Shore or Prattville. I don't know how the parking is over there, maybe someone from the Chester side could chime in about where is a good, safe place to park. Something else to keep in mind is the condition of the road (from 89 to Fananni). If the timber removal ceases, then assuming we have the snow to accomplish it, the grooming will focus some time on getting that stretch of trail proved up.

You can register at the stop in Fananni Meadows then continue on to Butte Meadows for raffle and dinner. There is usually a good sized contingent from Lake Almanor - if you know some folks, throw in with them. I've never had a bad time riding with them:face-icon-small-win.

If all else fails, you can come all the way around to Butte Meadows. 36 to 32 to Humboldt rd. Butte Meadows is about 6 miles up the road from 32.

Just so everyone knows.... we try to run the course from Butte Meadows to Jonesville up the the "Y" then to Scotts-John to the Tri-angle. I can't vouch for the path after that because if its good we might run it through Sunflower Loop or just straight up Humbug. Either way you go through Cinder Pit, Warming Hut, Fananni the back towards Ruffa/Eagle Rocks, Humbodlt then back down to Jonesville and to Butte Meadows. I point this out just FYI, there is no law saying one can't proceed from say Jonesville directly to Fananni, but you'll be swimming up stream.

I believe there will be a shuttle running from Butte Meadows to Jonesville Snow Park, if you all want to drop sleds at park then take trailers back down to Butte Meadows. If you think that your are going to park at Snow Park, I suggest you get there verrrry early or the night before. We do the best we can to stack in as many vehicle as possible, but with a good turn out; parking is at a premium (including Butte Meadows). Please remember to be polite and courteous parking, many places are in front of peoples houses and cabins. Folks are very accommodating, but should you block them in there own places or leave a mess in their front yards; you might be on the receiving end of a "significant posterior mastication".

More to come, as the club meeting is next week. Please feel free to join us if you'd like. If you can't make it and would like to pitch in or make a donation to the raffle feel free to chime in and we'll figure out where to put you and/or your stuff.

Which day?

Thanks for the quick reply. One question? Is it Friday the 25th or Saturday the 26th. The Facebook page says both.

This is an important fund raiser for the club and a great opportunity to spend the day with your fellow snowmobilers. Bring a friend and buy their poker hand, if they win; you can hold it over their head for the rest their lives.

WOW you have too much free time on your hands!!!! rode at the meadows yesterday and the trails were in great shape!!! good job grooming crew:nod:

It's either this way or you can sit in a Yukon for 6 hours with me. Oh wait......

You going up or is it another sports weekend? At least send the posse up to represent.

Been pretty quiet around here, eh? Well, the Poker Run is just a mere 48+ hours away. Are there any last minute questions? If you have something to donate you can drop it off at registration, please put a sticky note or a tag with your name so proper credit can be attached.

While you are in the mountains, please be aware of road and trail conditions. Pretty clear and clean conditions but you never know where it might be icy or congested. For those of you that haven't driven up in a while, if you come up a little later in the morning, there might be cars parked along side of the road about a 1/2 mile above Lomo. This is where the little grove of cedars are on the north side of the road.

SPI logged the hill behind there and it has become the new go to area for people and kids to play. Of course, there is very little parking and usually you have about a lane and a half of clear travel. Which is fine except that its a blind usually icy curve for the people driving down from Butte Meadows. Not the end of the world, just something different to be aware of. (Yes I ended my sentence with a preposition; it can be read either way ;) )

Also be aware that the trails could be icy in the usual spots. It doesn't appear that it will freeze super hard on Friday night, but we all know that with warm days and cold nights the trail can set up surprisingly hard. As always, safety first - ride under your ability at least during the run. We'll have riders of all different abilities and not all of them might understand every common sense riding rule. Last thing we need is someone making a rookie mistake and paying for it with a 60mph t-boning.

Also what you pack in, please pack out - trash, butts, plastic body panels, belts, etc. We are making small steps of head way with the USFS about access and having the trail all littered up after an event like this won't set well with Forest personnel or those who should like to see use booted out of the forest.

Looking forward to seeing you all there. Post up and let's see how big a turn out we can have. Hope to see Sac, Roseville, Quincy, Grass Valley/Nevada City, Gridley, Willows, Colusa, Maxwell, Orland and everyone else.
