So how did they not know the sleds had a problem with them? Are you telling me that they didn't put 150 miles on any one sled when they were designing it? THey must have known and with them knowing how could they release them to the public?

T/A

Couple observations:
1) Everyone blasts T/A for stroking BRP, now everyone blasts him for blasting BRP. I know this is a free country, but make up your mind!
2) He does have a point, that should be warranty work. I know my buddy on is 07 Rev blew a belt (T/A was actually there) and his local sled shop warrantied it, 3 months after he bought it. And then they have done clutch work 4 times on his sled, all 100% free.
3) The problem with sleds over dirt bikes is there is a lot wider range of elevations, temperatures, riding styles, uses and such that sleds are ridden in. This makes setup a lot more difficult for manufacturers and is why people dump money into a brand new sled to get it to run right.

Either way, ya'll make this forum interesting!!!

Problem is the old Ford Pinto theory. It is more profitable for the company to release the sled on time and fix the problems later then is it to release the product 3 months late. See 2008 Dragon... oh wait, you can't, they aren't out yet.

One advantage to the consumer, at least we get to test the sleds now and get the bugs worked out on our personal sleds before the deep powder comes.

Some Dragons are out, and I will prefer to ride my backup sled until my new one shows up. Me having to workout the bugs is bullchit! I've had 5 new sleds and I've never had any bugs to work out of any one of them. I'd rather wait to have it right than have to fight with a sled that needs fixing.

With my fingers in my ears going: AHHHA DAA DAAA AHHH DA DA DA AHHHH DA DAH AH

I didn't hear or see any of this. Good thing my dealer gave me three belts. We're they trying to tell me something? lol Guess Ill find out soon. Untill then:

AHHHA DAA DAAA AHHH DA DA DA AHHHH DA DAH AH

Wow, that thing starts good in the garage!!!!

I hadn't heard the Dragons are out. But my guess is, everyone will have corrections to make for their preferences.

My understanding is last years Dragon required new skis and suspension and the M8 required clutch work for them to work properly, well and Yamaha requires a turbo, hehehe.

Either way, I don't know too many people that don't make at least a few changes. Who on here uses the stock bar height?

This is too funny. Everyone blasts Polaris for the last couple years due to their belt issues on the 900. The vibration we could live with, but the belts we unacceptable. BTW, did anyone notice the 2006's were much better? Hmmm, I wonder if it has anything to due with the relationship of where the clutches are located. Then here comes along the XP with an even more radical placement of the secondary and in less than 100 miles we have serious belt problems emerging. Good luck.

The thing that I don't really get about this whole XP deal is how it "seems" as if no one rode the sled before they put it on the showroom floor if you get what I'm saying. Obviously this isn't the case because we all know countless magazine riders rode the prototypes and from what I seen there was absolutely not a thing mentioned about smoking hot clutches or belts being destroyed in such a short time then.
Really? I remember reading quite a bit about the protos chewing through belts like juicy fruit.....

Just sucks that you can't pickup your nice, new, state-of-the-art sled and ride it without problems. I agree on the dirtbike comment....I put gas in mine and rode it, anything I changed was for preference, not because it "needed it."

LMFAO! There ya go complaining like a whiny little girl just like I predicted. ;)

M-cats have been eating belts for years but I never seem to hear much about it. Guess the cat owners have come to accept it.

I have some ideas about the problem but need to get some seat time to figure it out.

hmmm thats funny after 4 years and thousands of miles of running M's (m1000's as well) never took out a belt

go figure

what if ??

LMFAO! There ya go complaining like a whiny little girl just like I predicted. ;)

what if i ride good powder for the next 3 weeks and loose 3 or 4 more belts, {i will be riding a lot from now on}--so now i the belt i just had to pay for and maybe 4 more at over a $ 100.00 a belt, how happy would you be MARV ??

My dirtbike also rips AND is dead reliable. However it's a Yamaha 4 stroke!!! We also have Yamaha raptors, grizzlys and we never touch them. I currently ride a skidoo but my next sled will be a Yamaha 4 stroke and I don't care if skidoo weighs 300 lbs. and has 180 hp.

I think we all (to some degree) "tweak" on our sleds to get the most out of them whether they are new or not. Clutching, exhaust, jets whatever; and we accept that as part of our sport. I see the bigger issue of spending 11k for a sled only to discover it has a flaw in it's drivetrain. So be it, many other manfactures have dealt with this same scenario before. T/A's point is he's having to pay to try to make it right and THAT IS WRONG. Especially if the belts continue to blow after the modifications. In '05 did Polaris not cover their belts that were blowing on them until they fixed the problem? Carl's Cycle did for their customers but perhaps that was not the norm. If the preseason test sleds were just fine, then something changed and Doo needs to support their customers until they find what they changed................ and fix it. Including to support them with the cost associated to ensure their 11K dollar sled will run reliably as an 11K dollar sled should.

Some of us only took one year to learn our lesson. You still might be able to find an 800 Dragon.... :beer;

edit - btw Dragon is still on original belt.

I'm with Freak! Love my Dragon & yes I've had it for a week.

Remember the BRP post on DooTalk about the problems with protos-they knew about it last year & still didn't get it right.

T/A changing the Top Gear and TRA Clutch Heat are old issue that are historical

Anyway most of my primary and secondary parts have arrived im just waiting for Goodwin to send me a new shaft. And Skidoo same old same old issues will be fixed....There a reason skidoo's own racers prefer running a TEAM.

Just the way it is with Skidoo

I thought that all we had to do was break in our belts properly????
