broken drive shaft

Try that socket and bolt thing out again this time using an aluminum socket and tell me what happens.
You do not need glue to turn a bolt with a 6 point socket.. The glue on this shaft is added strength (and it needs it)

IMO--> if there was no glue, AND there was NO "flex" then the 6 points of contact would hold the end caps in place on its own..
But, the reality is.. there is MAJOR flex and the flex is angular in direction.
This flex fractures the extrusion and THIS is what causes the total failure..
The pictures show this clearly..

Again.. you can turn a 1" bolt with a hex head 1" socket without slippage..

Angle the socket a tad and try again... what happens??? FAILURE.. it slips off the bolt head.. SAME with this shaft.. It is no different.. IMO, of course

Kelsey,

I was quoted $405 for the 2012 driveshaft with drivers.

Again, wasn't due to the dealer until 12/21/12 though.

So $405 plus install (prob another $250). .So, $650 out of your own pocket 100% fix something that Polaris will be fixing for free?

Sad deal IMO..

OR you can put our temp re-enforcement kit on for $85.00 and hope that gets you by until Polaris issues the official recall...

last season the polaris guys were crapping in our pro climb threads......
this season the polaris guys are crapping on their own threads......

:yo:

Tracks, I checked inventory last night and again first thing this morning...this is what I show..2nd line down is 12 driveshaft..101 ordered...availability on far right..YES...evidently a bunch of dealers got word of shaft failures?

Dealer cost on this shaft isnt bad, alot less then you were qouted..michelle on here said last night to someone that she would do them for 350..most guys can do their own install that would be worried about failure..and as said before go talk to your dealer before doing anything..maybe if they talk to poo warranty poo will work with them, if they wont then each consumer will have to make up their own minds.......my guess..is this week the dealers will get a team tip on inspecting these shafts for glue lines..

Looks like the glue is completely failing on the ones that break. You would think that at least some glue would remain on the stub or some of the extrusion would still be attached to the stub if the glue was working properly. I haven't seen one pick where there is a piece of the extrusion still attached to the stub. Those stubs look really smooth and shiny too. Not a good surface for glue to bond to.

Kelsey, i called and left a message yesterday, to ask about ordering you "fix" or what not, and inquire about the drop in kit, Left a message and my number twice as asked and never recieved a call back. hope there was a mix up somewhere, and we can see what i get done. But now i'm at the rig and service is not good, so maybe after the holiday i'll try again.

I put 30miles on my new pro this weekand and the drive shaft did not break!!! Holy cow.....Polaris must know what they are doing. And one more thing....that was at 11lbs of boost on my new 2863 Tial turbo!! Funny thing is we had another '13 identical to mine and another '13 with a Carls Cycle 900. NONE of the sleds had a single problem and we hammered them.....FYI

The driveshaft problem is not on all 2013 pro rmk's, so your re-enforcement kit wont do anything but add rotating mass to the the driveshafts that are good.

Polaris told my friend who is a dealer, that there were some faulty driveshaft beeing glued on two specific dates. The part with the quick drive sprocket on, was glued on crooked, creating a wooble effect and again caused the driveshaft failures. This is only regarding some specific sleds, not all. Im pretty sure there will be a recall to these sled very soon.

Not trying to burst your bubble or kill your sale, but i don't think it's cool to try and make money on people by scaring them.

aathanks for that post! Helps set my mind as ease. My new pro hasnt seen snow yet and im just wondering if this is isolated cases of guys pounding brand new sleds and not breaking in properly. My dealer called me and said to make sure i put the 100-120 miles on befor hammering to hard

Turbo 13, no problems yet....Going to take my chances befor i go getting all bent and talking to poo or buying new shaft!!!
thats exactly what i have been hoping peeps will do, inspect your shaft, go ride, do the breakin as per poo and take it easy till you get some miles on..maybe throw a kids sled and some straps and tow strap in the truck in case it does let loose, and stay out of the nasty stuff for a bit....

Well, whatis also not cool is you coming on here and accusing me of doing this..

Tell ya what.. do the Math.. Not hardly ANY money being made on these,in fact, If I added in my time, I would suspect I am losing money...
I took a proactive approach to get people riding and lowering the risk of failure and, like mentioned above, probably lost money doing it.. Again, how much money do you really think is in this kit?? It wasnever about the money, it WAS about getting people riding and trying to make their ride failure free.. both personal and mechanical

So, with all due respect,

As for what Polaris told your friend.. Really?? so, now that is the final say on all this?..

Well what I can see is that in almost every post you have made in the driveshaft threads, you are referering to that your so called fix kit will heal the driveshaft. A faulty assembled driveshaft will fail eventually, even with you fix kit on. The only difference on a failed driveshaft with your kit on, and a failed driveshaft without, is that the one with your fix on it wont be covered under warranty.

Well I believe him, and he has no reason to lie to me. And I believe that, more than your assumptions on the driveshafts failures.
