Avy victim at Johnsons Pass!!!!!!!!

Will be back in town tomorrow, and would really like to assist in the recovery or anything that will help..

we have been praying for the family and friends..

BE SAFE OUT THERE

i know that they were planning on going to johnsons to continue the recovery today......has any one herd anything about there success today

Just flew over the area, looks like they have a lot of searchers looking for him. Saw a few dogs at the site also. Flew the area looking at all the slides, not a good time to be out there. Lots of big slides.

I found this on the adn.

http://www.adn.com/outdoors/story/745897.html

This a quote from the article. Seem the blast from the charges can set off other slides in the area.

"It is imperative that no one is in or near the area during to the recovery efforts. The area is still exhibiting a high avalanche potential, especially in the aftermath of additional snow and higher temperatures added to the steep terrain."

So i just herd back from on of my buddys that was ther on saturday when yancy was covered by the avy, he was there today again helping in the search and rescue from 9:00 this morning till 8:25 this evening is when they got back to the truck and still they didnt find him:(
hopfully they will have better luck tomorrow before the weather changes

I was hoping they found him today as well..would give the family some peace.......hope they find him tomorrow....RIP....

Deepest condolensces to family and friends. Prayers and thoughts are with you.

It was a long day out there (Thursday) and everyone worked really hard once we got out there. They did trigger some more slides with charges before we were allowed to go in. They sent the dogs in first, then small teams. Good group to work with but still no luck. They were watching the weather to see when to go back. It was starting to snow when I left the parking lot...

Long day in the field today. Thanks for your help and I'm glad you made it home ok. The dogs were a hit.

Tomorrow looks to be a wx day and everyone will re-evaluate for Sat. and beyond...

crazyskierwb - thanks for the photos - they personalized the search effort for me - the number of slides in that one area are sobering. Hats off to you guys out there trying to bring Yancy home.

Hey guys, I'm not a search and rescue guy but I have been in Avy training classes and did participate in the '99 recovery. And I have to say that it sounds like the terrain and circumstances are similar. I was on probe lines for two solid days in Turney, and I have to say they are not very effective. Maybe the dogs will be able to help, but if it's just probing then I want to say that it is probably unlikely to see a fast recovery. I'm only saying this to help people prepare for the notion that Yancy may be there for awhile. It brings back to me the frustration of '99 that with the modern tech. available that we still rely on such medieval techniques. That said best of luck to everyone who have dedicated themselves to his recovery.

Thats 48 in north america, there has been one in alaska according to the site. And not all were sledders some were skiers. Not trying to minimize the loss because wether it be skier or sledder or happened in the us or canada its just as sad. Just wanted to let dvarmit know cause it looked as if you thought all 48 were in Alaska
