174 with a M7??what's your track speed 15mph??? give me a break

Ha ha, ummm I will take that on. I don't seem to have many problems with my 153 :D Can you say hair dryer?

see the problem is most you short trackers have never really rode real mtn terrain you guys also don't ride in 3-5 ft of fresh dry powder, there are only a few place in the states that even get that kinda snow(Colorado, parts of Wyoming, and Montana)...Track speed isn't everything either, just cause you have a 60mph track speed(yeah it helps) but does not mean that you have flotation that just means your going to dig to china that much faster:eek:, you need to have a mix of the two to be king on the steep & deep...if you were too take the exact same sled one with a 153 and one with a 174 the 174 will out climb the 153 every time no matter what!

Also its an M8 not a seven and my track speeds are anywhere from 35-50mph, its all about your gearing and your clutching those things need to be dialed in and if they are you will get every ounce of power the sled has, thats also because its an arctic cat:D:beer;

If I had to have a 174 track to be able to ride Id hang it up.

LOL no kidding. Hooch I was born and raised in Montana. Funny thing is you live where the no has quite a bit of water content. I grew up riding "sugar" power and was just back there over new years in a good 5' of bottom less fluff and I did not see one 174" track. I guarantee you that you don't have the biggest baddest mountain sled just becuase you slapped a 174 on a stock sled. I am sure it does ok, and better than a stock 153 in SOME conditions....but head to where other people ride with sleds and I promise you will not be turning heads.

not saying my sled is the nastiest sled out there, and i ride where there are lots of nasty sleds every time i go out! I just have my clutches dialed in to a T and it works for me, everybody i know that rocks the 174" is bone stock...plus i know 3 guys running 174"x3"x16" on stock sleds and they will dominate and all they have is clutch work!

And we just had over 5 feet of the driest fluffiest powder ive ever seen for about 2 weeks...but now its since rained and is a bit more set up!

I'm telling you ride the 174" they are impressive cant go wrong, unless your a flat lander!

see, hooch, only one problem, that track was good for the two weeks right after christmas, now im pretty sure my dads old F7 would lay the highmark on it, that 13.5 wide finger rips this stuff.

i know the 174 slays the deep, but justify that much track for 2 weeks, no thanks man. i think my 162 is to long half the time im out.

haha nice one, we will just see about that one lmfao

174 all the way , never go back , it is all about flotation ,
track speed has to substantally faster to be comparitive .
we ride the deep pow , or stay home, love the BC hills.

Hey Hooch, im living in Cheney. Its not to far over to Kalispel for me. Got an xp with a 63 on it that has yet to be slaughtered off in the trees. Im interested to see how you do it. Will have the sled over here for the weekend of the 21st. Give me a call 1 509 560 0935. Always looking to have someone teach me sumthin:rolleyes:

Just in case anyone cares (and you probably don't), I live in Utah and we have many many days a season of 3 to 5 feet of light fluffy powder and my "short" track 141" still does extremely well, enough to hi-mark most, but I know none of you will believe it, so my words fall on blind eyes, but if anyone in the northern utah area wants to ride with me and the group I ride with, not for a bashing session, but for a good boondocking, hill climbing, cornice jumping ride, let me know with a pm. I'm always looking for an excuse to go another day.

O I think most of us will agree that you dont necessarily have to go with a huge track to get the job done. It is a balance of floatation (PSI) and track speed. Sled weight factors into the psi part. All that I am saying is that you DO NOT have to have a 174 to have a lethal boondockin sled. Sure, you could go slower, make more mistakes and make the climb, and probably even impress all the 10 year olds with that much track. But when the gloves come off, the trees get tight, snow deep, and hill gets steep its how quick the sled builds track speed vs floatation vs track speed. Period.

Agreed. ^^

My new to me Rx-1 ton has a 162,

and the additional weight of the sled could benefit from a 174 for boondocking. But I tell you what there is no M8 stock with "clutching" that could touch my Rx-1 with the 162 on it right now. This summer I will put a 174 on probably, but my sled has the power to turn it, no stocker can, its simply physics in turning that track, and 150 hp is not enough on a long steep hill.
