Alaska Conditions and BSing Statewide

I'll looked into this deeply and I "think" the area I wanted to ride is fine(I picked up even newer maps with the boundary lines). The problem is the Park rangers are complete dickheads who hate sledders and won't tell you anything. Try having a conversation with one about sledding and you'll just get frustrated. If i go, I'll just bring the maps showing the park lines and I figure i can at least fight the ticket if they try to give me one. Not like they're any help on the phone.

rant over

Thursday ride? You lead i follow. :)

dammit...id go if i wanst at friggin work....my goal is to ride Whittier this year...let me know!!!!!;)

Whittier is a fun place to ride! Its best in the spring when you can get up top and follow the glaciers. When and if you go, get with someone that knows the area and you will have a blast. If not, then it can be a small boring ride.

Survival Situation

Because of the stupid (in my opinion) layout, it is easy to overlook the near disater that happened to Turbo Tim's dad. See Cantwell thread. That is why I advocate for a single Alaska thread. This is a very small big state- it is easy to miss things if they are posted in areas that you don't ride.

On the Survival issue- would it be worth startig a discussion on what survival items should be in your pack? And should it be on this thread, or god forbid- start another thread. Or is there a good thread somewhere else on snow west?

I_boondock, I'm always looking to get schooled in the trees, let me know if you're giving lessons in cantwell anytime :)

If it ever warms up I'm there.:beer; Of course now you have the upper hand. With your new short track and all.

The wind has been howling 40-50 mph through there all week. Alder riding will be about all that's left.

See the idea is to start a "new" (yes i know you hate it) "Alaska Survival gear and Avy awareness" thread. Then just have a mod pin it or "stick it" at the top of the alaska snow conditions thread. Therefor it will always stay there.

easy fix. That way you can have all the information in one spot. ;)
