I wonder how many failures are due to over tightening or just a lack of it.

I know guys who have well over 1000km and up to 2000km on their G5 chains.

So far This is the only forum I’m a member of reporting chain failures.

good points. in my few years of being on the various forums i've never seen more talk about chain tightening than this season and this is before the failures which is interesting.

Exactly. No breakdowns here in Scandinavia. I saw same pictures on one FB group as was posted here, thats it. I feel somebody is trying to create some chaos and panic.

In North America, is there Rexnord Aurora chains or something else?

The Lynx is the rexnord aurora in NA on the pics that was shared with me.

I’m not trying to down play any concern anyone may have, as a mechanical tradesperson, in my experience, I unfortunately look at all aspects to failures and potential inconsistencies of parts actually installed in sleds. Some guys may have Hyvo or the Rexnord aurora in their G5s and they do not know it.

Just last week after having a conversation with a buddy with a G5, he rode brand new sled almost 140miles without checking his chain once until it slipped on a climb than he tightened it. I noticed mine needed tightening after 30miles, just saying there is always another side to a story.

I appreciate all of the info shared thus far, it’s a big shoulder tap for Everyone, and to the Manufacturers. I do remember when the 2017 850 came out and some reported brittle Smodules and bracing in 2018 was added.
Tom at TKI knows his stuff, I have dealt with him on one of his very first belt drives.

I know what chain and sprocket is in my sled. Am I doing the Hyvo and shaft upgrade?, at the moment it’s a real possibility, I did not like the dual spline Idea when it was released last year. After I do a visual inspection and take some measurements with everything loose, I will make that decision at a later date.

Sleds manufactured here in Europe in Lynx factory (obviously Lynx models and Ski-Doos sold in Europe) all have Renord Aurora chains and sprockets on 850Turbo R. And it should be stronger than old Borg Warner stuff (2020-2022 850Turbo). But there might be some differences between European market and North American units on this.

Checked chain case oil, dirty but no steel shavings or link parts... What chain does this Gen 5 have?PXL_20230128_225520715.jpgPXL_20230128_225520715.jpgPXL_20230128_225545025.jpgPXL_20230128_225404945.jpgPXL_20230128_225352343.jpgPXL_20230128_214220217.jpg

Thx....meant to say 510 miles...80% off trail... No hard jumping....not sure if that means much to chain condition or not. Decided not to pull off cover since my magnet could not pick up and link parts and I didn't see any chain damage....advanced the secondary and peeked in the breather hole a few different spots....fingers crossed

Maybe people are getting dumber mechanical wise and the chain is not at fault. Hahaha

installed the TKI kit and the hyvo stuff. the TKI kit is very easy to install and just takes a few minutes once the requisite sled parts are removed. I had a couple of questions initially and Tom cleared that up. So I did have wear in the chain case in the same spot (to the left of the tensioner shoe) as shown in post 107. It’s a very small area but rub marks left by the chain can clearly be seen and I’ve still got 70% break in left and I’d imagine this was only going to get worse.

Did you put in a claim with BRP?

no, I’m not sure how that works. if I do so, it seems the dealer would want the sled to prevent riding and further damage. if that’s the case, i’m not losing any riding days because of the dealer or a busted chain case if I can prevent it and what I’ve spent on parts is negligible.
