900 RMK vs M1000

Lets think about this one here shall we.... 900 RMK vs. M1000

The 1000, aside from the fact that it came out AFTER the 900 line was suspended, also benefited from 2 years of chassis refinement before it was introduced, the stock 900 did not, it was completely new in every way when it was introduced and had some bugs to work out.

.

:beer;

So your saying the M1000 is better because it's newer:D:D:beer;:beer;:beer;:beer;

If my 900 RMK was that great then I wouldn't be shopping for an M1000 right now .... :beer;

Not to bash but after riding a m1 for 2 seasons I would compare a 900 to a stock yami before anything else, but without reliability. completely unimpressed and everyone I know of had problems.

Boy, I wish I lived a lot closer to you, because it sounds like you really don't have a clue. My nine has been an awesome sled and will easily compete with or beat any normally aspirated sled in the same cc range. Ya, I'll get beat by a well-dialed M1000, but I don't care. It's got over 130 cc's on me, so it should be able to beat me (but it better be on it's game:D:beer;).

Lets think about this one here shall we.... 900 RMK vs. M1000

Stock:

HP:
900 - 150
1000 - 165

Displacement:
900 - 866
1000 - 999

Weight:
900 - 550 dry
1000 - 510 dry

Technology:
900 - 2005
1000 - 2007

Vibration... ya, there's no cure for that...

So you guys who are wanting to compare stock to stock, keep this stuff in mind, by ALL rights, the 1000 SHOULD DESTROY the 900. Now if you have a 900 that has been setup with all the bolt on goodies to get the weight down in the same ballpark then you'll have a more fair comparison. You can get a 900 RMK down to 510 or 515 VERY easily.

The 1000, aside from the fact that it came out AFTER the 900 line was suspended, also benefited from 2 years of chassis refinement before it was introduced, the stock 900 did not, it was completely new in every way when it was introduced and had some bugs to work out.

Now, with all that said, Why is it that the 900 owners keep running their sleds and improving them if they are nothing but a "pile of junk"? The answer: When setup PROPERLY, the 900s flat out rock! If the 900s had the benefits of the last 4 years worth of refinements in technology and understanding like the 1000s have had, they would all have been very different sleds from what came stock in 05 and 06.

I've had the benefit of riding with both sleds, an 06 900 166 and 08 M1000 153 both well setup, good pulling sleds, for almost 2 full seasons before I updated from my 800 edge. I went with an 05 900 166 for a few personal preference reasons, as well as the price point, where else can you get a 150hp sled in immaculate condition for $3,100?:eek::D The 1000 I ride with just plain hauls the mail, it was broken in right and it runs that way... it may be a little faster than my and my buddies' 900s, but mine's still no slouch, I would run it against any other similarly set up 900 out there.

The 1000s I have seen and the one I ride with are good strong sleds, but I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss a well set up (not necessarily heavily modded) 900, they are definitely strong players and didn't come out to the hill just to watch.

:beer;

Let me get this straight, If the 900 was released today it would have benefitted from the current technology, so it would be a better and more reliable engine, such as the new Polaris 800? Wait, reliable, Polaris 800? That'd be a novel idea (hopefully they got it fixed though).

The Poo 900 takes a lot of messing around to get to work right from what I understand.

How close can you get, I would love to be proven wrong. But, when comparing in any case I'm talking apple to apples, same mods, both well setup ect..... I have handed it to a D8 turbo as well, so even if your above my mods or hand it to me it would still be fun. Maybe I would have more of a "clue" if my buddies would keep a motor running long enough.

The question was 900 vs m1000 not a history lesson. No offense

Its all my opinion and I think a 900 with the same mods I have on my m1000 that weighs 465lbs(wet except gas) with $1500 of mods(nothing to major)I would pound the pi$$ out of especially if the snow was soft. anyone want to prove me wrong please try its a good day of riding either way. Personally I like the 03-04 edge 800 better.

Some may think I am bias but I'm not. My Dad owned a ski-doo dealership when I was a kid and mine was usually a trade in so I rode all makes and any sled is better than none. I also think you can make any sled work but I don't want to spend too much money to prove a point.

I'll even put my money where my mouth is if someone wants to compare and beats me with same mods I'll buy lunch/dinner and all the beverages.:beer;:beer;:beer;

Chit, I'm out of popcorn be back later.:D

My 900 with all the mods I've done to it might pull slightly better than my riding buddie's bone stock 08' M10 SnoPro ... and that's only every 4th ride, because my 900 only runs about 1 out of every 4 rides before I have to go drop another $300 in parts to fix it.

Like I said above, if my 900 RMK was that great I wouldn't be shopping for an M1000 right now, would I?

It's not really even a question here, the M1000 is a better sled than the 900 RMK in every sense a sled can possibly be better than another sled. The motor is better built, it's bigger, and they're reliable. The 900's never ran right even WITHOUT mods. The 900 RMK, as best as I can tell, and I have owned one for 3 seasons (this will be the 4th), is arguably the single biggest hunk of **** snowmobile that has ever been released.

I find it absolutley appalling that in the year 2005 Polaris couldn't produce a better sled than this, and what's more is,they offered _ZERO_ support to fix any of the problems until they finally came out with a new crank this year. That did nothing to address the motor mounting issues however.

Like I said, my 900 RMK runs "pretty good" when it runs. That is when it runs.

And for the amount of money I've sunk into that hunk of ****, I could have bought a brand new Apex and put a Turbo on it ..... It's really not even an argument here, the M1000's are WAY better sleds than the 900 RMK's are, period.

C'mon Dogmeat..

wheres the 900 love..no offense..but i would have to assume your not doing something right when you work on it..unless your local dealer doesnt care nor take the time and skills they need to...

I would be glad to compare my 900 to a 1000..i will get the chance this year as my wifes uncle just got an 09 100 sno-pro..

ill post back the results ;)

a setup 900, is hard to beat..period...ecspecailly for the few that are running Turbos..i would put my money on a 900T vs an 1000T...

prove me wrong..in video!

i have nothing againist cats..i am all about sledding...not racing...just having fun!

spilled my popcorn, how much money you got.

I went through your build thread quickly, looks nice hope it works out. where do you ride, can't be two far from me and I would like to see how it compares to mine.

turbo for turbo, no way in heII, no offense but no way. I would want a splatter shield for the 900 under boost.

I used to have a 900 and now I have m1000. I agree with Dogmeat 100%

I ride with a couple Dragons, XP's, M8 and anything else a bunch of poor old guys can drag up to the valley. The best part of riding with all these different sleds is no one I ride with cares what the other guy rides or how far/fast they can climb. We just have a blast and laugh at the guy that can't stay on his sled or dodge a tree hole quick enough, its just about the fun not the competition. A friend of a friend that had a M1 rode with us once and he was dynamite on the hill but he was stuck all day when we got near the trees in the real powder. So it also depends on what you ride as to what outperforms what.

I would say this had more to do with set-up and the rider.:beer;

Agree 100%, ride, have fun, enjoy your time with your friends and family... it doesnt matter if my buddies ride a Powder Special or a $50,000 mod... we are all there to have fun

Big dick contests are for poorn movies.... :eek:

If the thread said will I have fun riding a 900 when my buddy has a m1000 or vise verse, Of course you would have fun as long as it ran. But like I said before. 900 vs M1000 . sleding is fun no matter what it is.

As for hitting tree wells, I am usually the last one in a well. Its not what you ride but if you can ride, setup may play a part and skis play a huge part as well.

My 900 is so f-ing great that after I finally got everything put back together, it started today. In fact, after I started and let it idle, I shut it off.

I then even started it up again a little later and let it warm all the way up to 130 degrees. It appeared to be great.

So I cleaned up all my tools, etc.

Went to start the 900 up to drive it into the trailer, thinking "Wow this sled is finally gonna run!"

On the 4th start of the day, the f-ing recoil grenaded itself. So in other words, now everything I just did getting the motor back in and whatnot has to be undone, and I'm going to have to spend $300 on another recoil.

Needless to say I just went out and bought a 2009 M8 162" SnoPro for $8500, and my 900 RMK is going to be parted out and sold peice by peice. I'm completley f-ing over 900 RMK's.

Good riddance 900 RMK, hello M8.

I have both and both moded with SLP but my 07 has RK Tek head and clutch, and a power claw. m1000 is hands down a fare better sled. I just rode my 900 today (tore track on 1000, early season ride) and could not believe what a dog it was in comparison. My shoulders, arms, and back are sore from trying to throw that 900 around and I am 6'4" 270. The 900 does have low end tourqe but that is it, nothing up top. I don't want to hear about clucthing, that 900 was heavy and could not pull hills I usaully fly over on my 1000.
