edited!!!
And DADDY LIKEY twin turbos!!!!!

Picked up one for Momma a few months ago.....

That thing is stupid fast with that twin turbo in it. Pulls a two place enclosed really well too!

We shall see how it pulls something a bit heavier with that lighter frame on it........

Where did that come from? Everything I've seen says that wasn't coming until 2017.

The 2016 Ford Super Duty truck will be outfitted with ultra-modern aluminum body panels. Although the Super Duty truck is not expected to utilize as much aluminum in body construction as the lighter duty 2015 Ford F-150, the explosions witnessed last week don’t typically occur in steel bodied trucks.

Hmmm... I doubt you'll see the new SD as a 2016 model. Early 2017 is more likely.

A New Super Duty So Soon?

"When we caught the first Super Duty prototypes testing back in mid-March, many analysts expressed surprise that prototypes had appeared so early and out of nowhere. Our analysis suggests that Ford has accelerated development on the next-generation Super Duty to make the most of its 'aluminum edge' — technology that Ford executives were touting as 'game changing' at the F-150 debut at the 2014 North American International Auto Show in Detroit. If competitors are planning to counter Ford with aluminum-intensive trucks of their own, Ford's decisive move to create an aluminum Super Duty will help it leverage its current advantage as much as possible before competitors can react."

If the do the price will sky rocket. Insurance will do the same. Who is going to repair them? My buddy has a body shop and an aluminum welder and he can't weld aluminum worth a darn.

That is a question we are going to get answered VERY SOON now with the new F150s rolling out.

This is stupid if ford does this on a work truck weight makes for better towing want something lighter buy a 150. That's whats wrong here no engineering in the real world. Why not just put the 6.7 in a 150 tin can and call it good would have all bragging rights of payload on paper but I won't buy one.

Same thing has been said about many automotive advances. Fuel injection, automatic transmissions just to mention a few. Drive by wire sound familiar.

Ford is jumping into the Deep end of the pool with this one on the F150.
So they must feel pretty confident about it.

Body panels will just be replaced like they do now with the current thin steel panels. Probably won't be much (if any) more expensive than what I heard GM is doing with part prices in the next year. Going to demand based pricing.

Only if the technology is SUCCESSFUL.
What they are doing is not utterly without risk

Any actual insurance rate comparisons for aluminum body truck vs steel?

Personally, I like to keep a good truck for 10-15 years, or more. The main thing I don't like is panel rust/cancer.

Aluminum bodies are not new, semi trucks have used aluminum for decades. Some old KW and Freightliners had aluminum frames.
When's the last time you seen a steel built aircraft?
