2015 Ford Super Duty uping the ante

I drive a 2006 Duramax CCSB 4x4. With every option except Onstar and a moonroof, it stickered at $41,500. That same truck today would easily be $60,000. It's sickening how much the cost of these truck has increased in under 10 years.

I'm ready to buy a new truck any time, but just waiting on a good deal to come along. I would drive a 1/2 ton truck, either a Chevy 6.2 or a Ford Ecoboost, if I didn't have a huge trailer to pull around frequently that requires a diesel. I would love it if somebody made a gas 3/4 ton truck that doesn't get miserable mileage when towing so I don't have to deal with the headaches of owning a diesel, nor the extra cost. I know the GM trucks will get about 1/2 what a diesel will towing a heavy load (10K+).

There are so many people driving diesels that don't need to. The only advantage to the owners that don't need them is they hold their value so much better than the same truck with a gas engine.

I honestly think Ram has the best diesel on the market right now. But I just can't bring myself to be associated with the crowd that swings on the nuts of those trucks.

Ford, Ram, GM all make nice new HD trucks. Not sure yet what I'm going to buy. I'm sure in no hurry to give away the money they want for one. It would just make me sick to spend that on a truck, they see it rot in the salt of the Midwest.

Starting in 2015 the 1/2 ton GM's with the 6.2l motor will now have an 8-Speed transmission.

How bass ackwards is that? The engines that need the 8 speed are the 3.6 and 5.3 where they could take advantage of a super low first gear for not only towing but also fuel efficiency. But of course they only put it on the most powerful engine they offer. Typical gm being late to the party with technology.

The 3.6l is not a truck motor.

I don't quite get their reasoning either other than I think they are still having supplier problems. This 8-speed is essentially the same transmission that in the new Corvette. Different torque converter, gear sets and output shafts.

I'd imagine in 2016 the 8-speed is standard, they use 2015 to suck up remaining 6-speeds.

As for the 3.6, it is transverse mounted so it will likely need a completely different transmission (Acadia, Enclave, Traverse).

Edit. I meant 4.3.

8-speed will cost MORE money. Doesn't really help in keeping the cost down.

It's always been GM's plan to give the bigger motors more gears. The 4.8L in the old generation of truck never did get the 6 speed.

Yet ram can do it? What do you really think the cost difference is? $200-$400 per unit? I would pay the upcharge. People did on the ram as well. A used 2013 with the 8 speed instead of the 6 speed is at least $2k more on the lots in terms of resale.

Yes. Conventional thinking on truck engine/Trany packages is gone. This is a new realm of engines and tranys. Not 1995 anymore.

Dearborn, we have a problem...

That aluminum body completely burned.

I bet that was a fun call back to head quarters! That is the cost of testing though.

That looks like a Super Duty. Will they be stamped out of aluminum, or would this be a pre-production run of aluminum?

Also, in the last shot, the terrain looks flat, any guesses what caused such an overheat issue? The sloppy body wrap?

my money it they have Polaris build the motors and if you take it off the lot you have voided the warranty do to aftermarket pavement:amen:.

I was thinking Arctic Cat built it, they like to burn down on the side of a trail.
