2013/14 Snowy Range snow conditions

Just finished 5 days of riding. Snow in the trees is great. Very pleased and the trails in and out were nicely groomed.

It seem that we have created another problem for our self. People refuse to follow the new order that was enacted this fall and continue to ride on areas with less than 12" of snow. People need stay on the trail longer and get further away from the parking lot before they leave the trail.

This was brought up in the snowmobile club meeting last night. The forest service has received a letter with pictures of people riding this area and tearing it up. Please help educate others about where they are riding and in turn keep the forest open for all of us to use.

Looking at the image I have attached people need to follow the purple track. The light and dark blue are the track that people keep taking and does not have the 12' of required snow.

"Thanks to everyone that attended last night's meeting! Please remember when you are out riding that the 12 inches of snow rule is all season long--if there isn't enough snow on the ground to completely cover it, find an alternate route. It is up to us to ride responsibly, help educate others about the rules and fight to keep our access open. There are plenty of people fighting against us, ride smart so you can keep riding."

Thanks for owning up to it. Now if we can get everyone else to change their path as well. or at lest until we have 12" there which never really happens.

Thank you very much for the image to go along with the information. Hopefully this will get this topic back on the top of everyone's mind. I know without seeing the picture I would have been guilty without even thinking about it next time I head up. Thanks again

Wow, I just tuned in for a snow report... I had not hear of the 12" thing at all. Was up there 4 weekends or so ago, and didn't see any sign about this at all. Nobody at the Friendly said anything either. Might want to consider some snow fence or stakes or a sign just before the curves to let people know to "stay the trail" until there's 12" of snow. (Not that we measure, but I suppose if you can see grass, there's probably not 12" of snow...)

Does the same rule apply to the un groomed section of the O trail between Brooklyn Lake and the NO trail? That area never has much snow, even on a good snow winter.

Thanks for letting us know!! I'll make it a point to stay the trail around the curves!

Great snow

Last weekend we rode Friday, Saturday, and Sunday we were finding great snow. We rode out of Greenrock Saturday, and Sunday…..We were pushing snow all three days.. With it snowing out there me and a group of buddies are thinking about heading out again from Iowa. I attached a picture of us.
The picture is 5 of us stuck just off the trail of U.

The 12" rule applies to all off trail riding.
