2012 Nytro going on a major weight loss program ?

Bend Oregon. 25 minutes west of town. Town elevation is 3500' and riding starts at about 6000' this time of year.

Show it on a scale. I have a full mod Nytro with the only added weight being a 174 CE, and an MCX kit. Weighs in at 630 plus wet ready to ride. Have an apex 100% done with 174 CE and SC weighs in at 624 wet ready to ride.

Thanks to Thistledoo I have this exact sled in my garage right now the TS skid and all after market weight loss crap. It has an MCX and using the three scale system...not totally accurate it weighs 630 plus with 1/2 a tank of gas......Re-checked....Best of three set up and finding a flater placement......612.

your 82 pounds is going by what they say ur saving. bet its not 60 or 50 for that matter. you do not save 38 pound with a TS from a 2010 skid, maybe 15 if ur lucky and that is a stretch.

Dont care enough to waste my time, I have posted pics in the past...

Didja happen to notice mine is a 2008? So the savings is from what I exchanged...and we did weight both skids on the scale, and posted pics...

no sweat...got nothing to prove...

merely pointing out the fact if a manufacturer wanted to, it could easily do it...I wont read any further though, as I am not premium...

sorry to burst the bubble but i dont see stock yamahas weighing the same as a two stroke 800cc sled anytime soon. maybe 10 years from now.

Try ever!

Just *WAY* more moving parts/counterweights/complexity etc in the engine alone.

Anyone who has lifted a comparable 2 stroke and 4 stroke engine and had them apart will agree. Sorry guys... :(

What is the weight difference between a 2-stroke 800 and and 1050 Nytro motor? We all know it's heavier but does anyone know the real numbers for just the motors?

I can easily lift a fully dressed 800 by myself, but you pretty much need a small crane for the 1050. Its bigger in every dimension as well.

I will see if I can track down actual numbers, but I would put some ca$h on it that it's close to double.

don't forget there is also a header system on these things too, which ain't light. and then there is still the rest of the exhaust, but that part can be lightened up a bit.

That's exactly what I expected....I have your almost exact sled in my garage, so I know for a fact you are no where near 518, or even under 590if you have boost wet ready to ride....

As for both sleds being 08's.....Yup you saved a tona weight with the TS skid as did this one, but 08's weighed in 20+ pounds more than the 2010's, and
15+ was out of the skid.

Without ti bolts and a Carbon skid (which will not happen in production in our lifetime form Yammi),.....With just all other current after market parts available (not their claimed weight savings, but the weight after its actually in the sled), there is no way to get 100 punds out of a Nytro unless they put a Phazer motor in it...lol and go back to a 121" track.

You do without a doubt have a very sweet sled. Definately one of the sweeter looking Nytro's on the snow.

There are many places on a Nytro that weight can be saved...

True....2 pounds outa the seat.... 1/4 pound taking out side pannel foam.... 17 pounds with a new skid, but to have the greatest cooling you have to add the under tunnel cooling system, add a few pounds for additional coolant.....6-8 pounds in shocks.....3-4 pounds with a-arms........6-12 pounds with a new more functional skid and rails....1 pound maybe 2 depending on the hood.......add 2 pounds to for a CE track...4 pounds with ski's.........add 1-2 pounds for belly pan protector.........8 pounds for exhaust......6 pounds if they do away with head and tail light....add 1/2 pound for high rise bars.........

I see the 100 pounds coming off fast. I have lost 30 + pounds myself, and hope to drop 9 more before winter, so if Yami can find a way to drop some motor and drive terain weight I could see the 100 pounds in 2012.

There are plenty of places to cut it from, but how much they can/will cut to keep the Yami quality....I'm not seeing it. ....

I think they will shed some pounds for certain, but they will go for more 180-200 stock hp and a well balanced machine to overcome the competition.

I ran outa post time as well. Dang Basic Member....

Looks like everyone pretty much agrees that Yamaha COULD trim off some serious weight if they really wanted to, and how they could go about doing it is pretty open to speculation.

Will we have a whole new Nytro from ground up?

Will we have a reworked version of the current sled that is -25, -50 or maybe even -75lbs?

Honestly don't know.

But the rumor mill is in HIGH GEAR and I think something is seriously afoot with this

the nytro will not be reworked, yamaha does not rework or redeisgn a current sled. they either do minor upgrades or flat out replace the chassis. so will we see a major wieght loss in the nytro in 2012, flat out NO. new chassis possibly, possibly even a lighter motor(does lighter mean smaller though?)
