2012 Nytro going on a major weight loss program ?

More comments from more people are suggesting this really might be for REAL.... and that Yamaha is going to make a serious push to lower the total weight of the 2012 Nytro to be much more competitive with the lightweight sleds in the mountain performance market.

Scary to think I might only get 2 seasons of our my 2010 SE before I have to hand it down to my son and buy a new 2012!!

I can already see that conversation with my wife...
But Honey, its a Whole New Sled.
I have to upgrade or I will be behind the times.. :face-icon-small-hap

LOL, welcome to snowmobiling.

This funny chit..... Every spring we hear the rumors, heck I for many yrs started them with good intel from what they've had under the blanket....., but we get worked up and its the same result. Minimal change.

I suspect new stickers, and maybe power stearing.

Yami has prototype sleds that will blow the market away, but with his economy...plus they sell far fewer mountain sleds than the others.....Its just not cost effective for them to accomodate us few loyal mountain riders right now.

Same for their UTV market. We won't see their good new designs this year if ever.

I'll cross my fingers, but I'm not lucky....

Sworn to secrecy.
But don't be too surprised if at some point this thread just vanishes all of a sudden.

yeah but that would be your own doing MR.ADMIN:), but who besides you are saying there is going to be this huge weight loss? i'd love it to be true but i'm going to have to see it to believe it for the time being

why dont all of us fat bastards just loose weight instead of the sleds. or start hitting roids and then the sleds will feel light!!!

dont hold your breath on 100lbs...that is off the charts. I've got almost 3 grand into lightweight parts and it dropped just over 50lbs...so who knows what the factory would charge for the same thing. I could see a yamaha partnership with more aftermarket lightweight parts, or some kind of HP add ons.

I love my yami as much as the next guy, but if I had to guess I think that next year will see a little focus on the trail sleds and minor (if any) changes to the Nytro MTX since the 2010 had some significant changes. With the economy how it is, it wouldn't surprise me if they just did BNG's and called it good. (Thats bold new graphics for the new guys).

2011 is the year for BNGs. 2012 is the year for change. Changes usually come every 5th model year.

Right you are.

What was the last model Yami waited 5 yrs to change.... They made a huge jump last yrs changing the skid and front end placement.

If we are going to guess....lets have them break out their 4 cylinder with 180 stock hp weighing 20 pounds less than the current Nytro. Time for it to see the light of day, but its been sitting for 2 yrs at least now since first tested. Maybe they'll throw an option for 10 PSI trubo with a snow check. Of course it you mod it past 10 PSI it will void the warranty. Prolly be only a 6 month warranty anyway.

Maybe still with new stickers and power stearing.

100 pound weight loss rumor....not possible. No after market company and get a 100 pounds out of it....no way Yami can.

We should make it real interesting.....Each of us should make a $20.00 donation to the member who gets the closest right answer. Then we'll see what ya'll really think...lol

Its summer and it.........Sucks...

Granted.
There is NO chance that they are coming out with a Carbon Fiber Sled.

But I think they COULD create a new Nytro that is 50, 75, perhaps something close to 100lbs lighter if they saw that as a real goal to be obtained.

Certainly they have the institutional manufacturing ability to pull it off.

The real question is do they have the Desire/Motivation to do that??

You mean the right cost / benefit ratio? I think what they do right now makes them a lot of money. Of all the manufacturers, Yamaha has the most ability in terms of designing and manufacturing. Only problem is that it is expensive to do and the return on that investment would be quite small.

wouldn't be really cost effective, the mountain market is so small compared to the trail market
