2012/2013 Alpine, WY Snow Conditions/Rockin' M Ranch

Can you ride out of Alpine? We are thinking about coming down next week for a few days, is the riding any good now? Would it be worth the drive down?

It has snowed lightly, but non stop from Christmas to today. We received 1-2" each day. The sun is starting to poke through a bit today. Forecast is for is for some snow on Sunday.

Sorry guys. There hasn't been much to report. It snowed about an inch in the valley last night. We are all waiting for a freshen up. I will report after Thursdays predicted storm.

We were in a winter storm warning the last few days yet not much fell. 1-3" in the valleys. 4-8" in the mountains. Strange storm with a few powerful cells. The local ski resorts here are showing a storm total of 11". Now, It is cold and clear. A 20% percent chance of snow predicted in a few days, otherwise supposed to stay this way for awhile. They are also predicting strong temperature inversions. It would be a good time to get up high and ride the bowls and basins. Bridger teton avalanche report is showing low conditons in the greys river area and moderate in the teton range. The report claims 14-16" in the Teton Range since monday.

we just got home best snow we found was on the shade side of the hills behind Mc Cain cabin . road back there for 2 days had a blast. u got to push deep at blind bull for fresh but not to hard to find. I did not think it could get so tracked up just out side of town had to push real deep and steep to get fresh

I was out in Alpine for the past week. IMO snow is still think down below 8000 ft, with the exception of McCain Cabin area, where we found good carving powder (but no real base). Up above 8500-9000 I would say there is 5-6 feet in places. Below that snow depth ranged from 1.5-4 feet. The nohrsc snow cover map seems extremely accurate for the area.

The snowtel sites are showing 3-4" new up high from yesterdays storm. The valley received a rain/snow/freezing rain mix that didn't amount to any real accumulation. The forecast for the next 3-5 days is showing a possibility of receiving 1-2 feet up high. As of now, softer snow can be found, but it is taking some effort to find northern exposures or treed areas of the beaten path. I will check back after this storm.

it's not dumping in the valley but its been snowing pretty consistently for 3 days, supposed to keep going through Friday. We going to see you up here this weekend Chris?

Might have to do a recon mission up high to see how it's going up there... I cant imagine it's anything less than amazing.

We are back in the snow. Here at the cabins we received about 5 inches Sunday, 1-2" inches Monday, 2"+ Tuesday. Forecast to snow harder again tomorrow and continue until Friday. I rode Monday and Tuesday along with a big group staying here at the cabins. Up high Squaw/Murphy ranged from 8"-18" depending on where you were at. The back bowls of North Murphy are closer to 18"+. Blind bull had about 8" of fresh yesterday and I am sure some more over night. I will report again later in the week.

This is the storm we needed to get back on track. It snowed hard at the cabins all day yesterday putting down another 6 inches. Looking at my 4- place trailer it appears we have received a solid 1 plus feet in the valley since Sunday. This is good snow with a high moisture content. Reports from guest here at the cabins are of 2 plus feet of new over 8000' with places that they were only seeing handlebars as snow came over the hood. Since Sunday Willow Creek snotel went from 42-65", Spring Creek (Afton) 44-65", Blind Bull 44-55". The front West Ranges (Teton, Salt River) appeared to pick up more snow than the Eastern ranges (Wyoming Range, Togwotee). Jackson Hole ski Resort is reporting 18" in the last 48 hours. Targhee ski resort is reporting a storm total since Sunday of 41". The forecast is for a possible 4-8" of mountain snow in the next couple of days and then clearing out for the weekend. The current avalanche danger is considerable with a prediction of possibly going to high with any additional snow.

We rode west of the cabins yesterday. The top of Black Mountain had two to three feet of fresh. Another group from the cabins rode Poker peak. Great snow there also.
