2011/12 Snowy Range snow conditions

We just returned from 4 great days of riding. We decided to stay on the west side this year and that turned out to be a very good decision. Stayed at Medicine Bow Lodge, well worth the extra drive and the hospitality was fantastic. I highly recommend them.

We rode up N trail every day and from there MA, MC, M and X trails, lots of boon-docking and miles of untouched areas that were nice and deep. Yes there are stumps and the snow is sugary underneath, 7 sleds, 4 days of riding and no damage.

Was up over the weekend and was pretty good riding. Found some pretty decent snow, took some looking though and was a little hard to get to but there is good snow.

Just took a drive to the upper gate (west side) there was 3"-5" fresh on the parking lot, depending on how the wind carried it.
Doesnt look like the lot has been plowed all day, it was snowing hard!!

Just had a lengthy conversation with a Meteorologist in Cheyenne. He said that we "should" see 2 to 3 feet of fresh in the next week to week and a half in the Snowies :welcome:. I sure hope he's right!!

We rode north of Steamboat Lake this weekend - it was snowing pretty good when we drove out this morning. I guess Steamboat Springs is getting hammered right now - I hope your guy is right and the Snowy's pick up some good snow this week!

We are supposed to leave for the snowies tomorrow but the high wind warnings scare me. They are saying 80 MPH gusts? I don't know if my truck and enclosed will handle that.

hi guys, I have a trip planned out for feb 8 - 12. we usually stay in centennial. my question is if we stay there and ride out of green rock, are we all going to need new carbides when we come home? love the snowies and we have never stayed on the west side. suggestions???:face-icon-small-con

Hope he's right too. If it does snow that much going to have to be super careful cause what snow is up there is just sugar snow and has no base! Its going to be really unstable underneath all that new snow! Be careful out there guys!

I seen someone blow over with an enclosed trailer on Saturday heading North on I-25. The wind gusts were only 60 mph. I would hate to see what 80 would do. They are calling for 70 mph here. I wonder how bad the sleds were in that trailer. The back passenger side of the truck was messed up.

My main riding buddy moved back to MT so I am looking for some new people to ride with in the snowies or Grand Mesa. I live in Denver and always willing to drive. Let me know if anyone wants to go at the end of this week. I know the area fairly well and dont do stupid stuff on the mountain!
