2011/12 Snowy Range snow conditions

I heard there was an accident up on the hill today - snow ambulances and rescue teams were sent up from Albany. I hope the guy/gal is OK.

Guy got killed by tree blowing over on him while on his sled. One of the groomer guys but I didn't catch his name. Not Rick i know that for sure. Sad deal!!

bill rice a good dude

i just found out from a friend of mine that bill Rice from denver is the guy who got killed.
A tree did fall on him .This is such bad news , he was one of my riding buddies, he knew the sport real well and was such a fun person to be around..
I learned a lot from him..
He always stayed busy , he knew how to work on them ski doos' too.
I was told by locals last month to be very aware of the dead pines from the beetle kill , especially during high wind times.

Damn shame. RIP Bill Rice. Our condolences to his family. My heart goes out to those who were riding with him. I can't even imagine how rough that must have been. Sad, sad day in the Range.

Snowies this weekend

My condolences to the Bill Rice family and friends, that's terrible news.

Any updates on the weather/conditions out there for this weekend? We are getting ready to make the drive out there this afternoon from Omaha to ride Sat and Sunday. Any new snow? Are the wind mph's correct and will we even be able to ride on Saturday/Sunday? We are thinking about cancelling this trip, should we?

Everybody needs to be careful out there with the wind, but I want to clear up one misconception here: the trees that are blowing down are the LIVING, green trees. They have a lot more surface area to catch because they still have their needles.

The wind is supposed to continue through Saturday night. Looks like we should catch a break Sunday.

Our condolences go out to Mr. Rice's family.

I didn't know Bill personally, but I doubt he was doing anything wrong.

I believe he was a victim of being at the wrong spot, at the wrong time.

I guess I didn't mean for it like that, I just meant it should make us all a little more aware of how serious this issue is.

Condolences to bill's family -

We had another tree blow down across our driveway last night. That is the third one so far this season. As mentioned above this was a live green tree, so watch all trees not just the beetle killed ones....

We've been packing a chainsaw around with us for a while now, and all of what we have cut has been green. Usually put the saws away after firewood is in, looks like we need to add them to the list of accessories this year.
Got to find a good spot to bolt a scabbard to hold the ol trusty 392, won't fit in a back pack lol!

RIP Bill.

Damn sad news....Rode with Bill a couple of times and he showed us a great time. He always helped when we had troubles with our sleds too. My condolences to Bills family and friends. RIP Bill.

Thursdays Winds

The conditions up at the Green Rock area were pretty awful. As we were waiting to get past the issues in the picture a tree fell and damn near took out my Brother and Sister in their truck. Probably even worse up there today.

We went up to try to do the club chili feed. It was nasty drive e last third of the way. Green rock was a ground blizzard, and visibility was 20' at best.
Figured there was no need to try and lite the burners for the chili :face-icon-small-hap
