2011/12 Big Horns North/South snow conditions

I seen a news report from the forest service a couple weeks ago saying they were allowing people to ride early beacuse of the snow that was there... They said in their news post that there needed to be only 6'' of snow ( which doesnt seem to be enough to me ) and that you could use your sticker from last year until the new ones were for sale....

So that says to me, ride at will!!!

f n a i missed that game on then

ya there were actually a few sleds out riding.. the hunters were actually pretty nice they were telling us a snowmobile or 4 wheeler with tracks was the only way to get around up high, so they were all about us breaking in the new sleds! if the snows line up this week we should be in for a little boondocking this weekend! they are saying a stronger storm is behind the one tommorow and could bring cold temps and alot more snow.. i hate to talk about it and jinks it but im so excited for a winter like last year if not better if possible!! ill be sure to bring the camera this time and post some picks..

i didnt want to mislead people in my first post i meant if we get 24" on top of the 16" up high we could see some good riding. the most we found in the trees other then drifts was 16".

Any copy of that news report? No doubting you, just seems odd they would open that during elk season.

Update from WY HI

Morning all:

have almost a foot of new snow at Wyoming High Country this morning and snowing like a ......:face-icon-small-hap!

Expected to snow all day and most of night. Cold temps for the next few days should keep most of it on the ground.

FYI: we are trying to set aside a few weeks of lodging for snowmobile clubs only at discount pricing, so if anyone is interested in staying on our end, CALL ME ASAP and we can set something aside for you. 877-548-2301.
See ya on the mountain!

Checking weather for our side of the mtn..

To see current and future conditions for our area, go to our website (wyhighcountry.com) and click on snowmobiling. There is a weather link there and you can also access any hazardous weather. The link has info for our area only.
No offense intended but a report from Sheridan Media will not give you much realistic info on what is happening on our end of The Horns. mbj050

Will there be enough snow to ride this weekend. I'll try and find out if we can ride this side before the 15th

mjb, i dont believe much of what i read anyways, but i was guessing that since people were already up riding that they were allowing it.

But thanks for the update and kind of sounds like that new storm moving in friday and saturday might be a good one. Your deal for the snowmobile clubs sounds like a sweer deal too.

Let it snow!

up to 25" from 16" since last night and another 4-6 predicted between now and friday night.

gonna go out on a limb here but high country said they had 10" at 11am and it snowed all day, so im guessing there is a little more then 24" up there...

Ya i hope they got a foot and half or two that would be awesome... Im definetly not believing the snotel sites on this one, high country reported almost a foot and bear lodge said 8'' this morning and the snotel sites either stayed the same or went up like one inch, so they are not accurately telling how much this storm dumped... Also guessing the wind blew a lot by the road reports

I'm confused, how much base is there right now? I know we're supposed to get some saturday. Looks like we should be able to get some "good" sledding by the end of the month.

Nothing official yet but we went riding sunday and there was 16" and from what I gathered they got about 14" from this storm, so im guessing 30" total in the trees maybe a little more!

Not really sure how much base. Weather has been really freaky this week. I would guess the base is less than 18" because everytime we get a decent amount of snow it warms up again and the melt starts. Same this week. Probably 14-16" total, but in the 40's and sunny this afternoon and tomorrow.
Riding this weekend? Not sure if you can legally ride, but will say I have seen a few sleds up on 14A. That group of folks we see early every year (with the parachutes and skis) are there every weekend now. Just watch for big rocks, as the snow is not that deep yet and they will do some real damage if you don't see them in time!

some one really needs to get some pics of up north. Looking to run up there sunday to get some miles on.

milek your fine to go break in a sled.. we were up there last week and put 18 miles on my 2012 800 pro rmk, road the road most of the time but did take a quick detour to the trees, found 16" to 20" in the trees even pulled a real nice boondock on a steep hill. with all the new snow this week and hopefully tommorow, things will be ok. we are heading up early sunday as well, mayb see ya up there!? some people just have no sense of adventure wether there is 30" of snow on the ground or 80" the possibility of hitting something is always there! just have to keep the eyes peeled :face-icon-small-win

Planning on going up on sunday as well to put try out the new dragon i got. Hopefully this storm rolling in will make for some decent test miles... Maybe see you guys up there!
