2010 rmk 800 voltage regulator issue

I have a question. If Polaris know's there is a problem with a part, and also an updated part, to fix the problem part, why don't they have the dealer's replace that part before it fails (and leaves you stranded, or ruins your snowmobiling trip)??????? Or am I missing something? Thanks and think snow!

Well.... That was my question as well. I brought this question to my dealer to see what they would say and they told me that the reason that polaris is not recalling the part and just replacing all of them, is because. Supposedly, not all of the VR's are bad. Only some of them.... So... To me this means that you ride it and hope that yours is good, and if its not , you hope that your sled is still within its warranty period so it will get fixed for free.

I have a 2010 Polaris 700 RMK. It has ~250 miles on it.
Yesterday, part way through our ride the dash lights went out and
the headlight dimmed, then a minute or 2 later the headlight went out.
Then shortly after the sled would turn off. Restart and repeat all
the way back to the truck.
After finding this thread, i went and checked the regulator part number.
It has 4012476 on it.
Based on this thread's info i need to take it into the dealer and
have a new updated one put on (4012930).

I couldn't find the service bulletin info mentioned, so....
Are there any other rmk known electrical problems that could also exibit this
problem? Or is my outdated regulator most likely the definite issue?

Thanks for the info!

They just replaced mine with the 4012476. Im thinking the same one that had come out of it. They told me that it was the latest most current VR for this sled. I hope they were right as am going on my second trip of the season in 2 days.....

When these vr's go..
Are there signs of it melting before it completely goes??
I understand the ecu will show signs of melting, butthe VR itself??
I'm gonna pull mine out and inspect it.
My voltage reader on dash has been acting funny..
Blacked out at idle, flashing at me underway..
I don't wanna be getting pulled out.
Thanks in advance

I had my VR go out and it was replaced under warranty last year. So I pulled up my service ticket and mine was replace with 4012476. So I went online and looked up and it says that 4012476 replaces 4011731. So I think you got the updated one.

Some have posted 4012930 as the update VR and online that shows its the VR for the 2011 600.

Called one dealer they told me the 4012930 is the latest out. Called another dealer they told me. The 4012476 is the latest out.
I used the part searcher on the dealers website and it told me the 4012930 replaces the 4012476.
I used the Polaris part finder on Polaris website and when I typed in 4012930 nothing was found, I typed in 4012476 it found the part and told me it was the VR .
I believe the 4012476 is the latest out, if that's what the Polaris parts finder site is telling me.

Took my brand new 2010 D8 out yesterday and it ran great!! Put on 30 miles

I've got faith it'll hold up.

I had three good deals that I would have bought a Dragon 800, rmk 800, or rmk700, but I'm 68 years old and I'm not going to risk burning up 35 miles from truck, I travel 1200 miles to trail head each time I ride and there is normally no one there to ride with. Hope Polaris gets wind of this. They know the VR, ECU, causes pistons to burn but will still let you venture out.

So why do some dealers have different part numbers for these regulators than other dealers? Like Polaris needs any help in looking bad, but this inconsistency between dealers is unbelievable. I do understand that some dealers are more on the ball than others, but with an issue like this don't you think Polaris would make sure that EVERY dealer had the most up to date information and part numbers etc. Personally I have went through two voltage regulators now. With this last one I had to leave it in the mountains for three days before I could get a new one - only to find out it is the same POS part number as the one that came out of it. Then, because Polaris said that since I was out of my normal warranty, they won't cover the new regulator even though they know they have a problem with the regulator. What a bunch of crap. This is why it is probably the last Polaris I will own. In my opinion Polaris is being very negligent by knowing they have an issue with these regulators and not actively doing anything about it. It has left me in the mountains - anyone else? Why not a recall???

Anyway, so does anyone know what the correct part number is? I am seeing two different ones depending upon what fiche you look at, Carl's cycles or Polaris industries.

Thanks -

Who's your dealer? I thought I read on here somewhere the reg's are covered for another year for the 09/10 models.

On Carl's Cycle parts fiche it has part #4012476 crossed off, and part#4012930 replacing it. I also spoke with a local dealer who still had the 476's in stock, but were waiting for the new 930's to come in. This tells me that 4012930 is the correct part# for the newest updated VR.

I change my VR at the begining of each season and throw the old one in my Pack as a spare 120$ ouch but here are the #'s I have
I am still on the 09ECU although I have the reflashed 10 ecu along with a VR in my Pack as a just in case!! now I hope the stator doesnt go out!!!

08-09 OEM #4011731
installed 09-10 season #4012476
installed last week #4012930

So I think the 930 must be the latest greatest, and No I have not had one fail Yet!!!

How many guys have had VR fail and not the ECU????? I dont know if the ecu goes out the second the VR fails???

seems like some guys get away with just changing the VR?? or do the ecu's fail from repeated starts with the VR failed trying to get back to the truck???

Is there any way to tell which VR is installed on the sled just by looking at it, or is the part number not printed on it anywhere?

Good info, not a bad idea to update 'em as preventive maintenance

I hear you!!! were now second class citizens!!!!!! but unless they get the dual injector pros running,,, I not worried Im at 14-15 psi I think the pros will be no pro-b-lemo

Voltage Reg

I have now burned through two regulators. The first one lasted two years, and took out my ECU. The second last 6 hours and did not take out my ECU. I now have the latest/updated volt. reg. I know people are having problems with them but I am wondering if there is something else causing these problems. I have noticed now my fuel pump makes a wine noise and I can here it at and idle, could this be a problem. My dealer said its the loudest one he had ever heard. I never had any problems until I got the engine upgrade a year ago from the dealer.

08 Dragons VR eats ECU TOO!!!

OK, I am not one to whimper and Wynne, but are you kidding me!! I have an 08 800 Dragon in the shop with a fried VR, ECU, etc. Surprise, surprise my warranty is expired and the cost to repair was quoted at roughly $1,300. I thought I would do a little research to find out if I was alone in my plight,(misery enjoys company). The best that my dealer could offer was to trade the POS for a new sled, which makes perfect since, because they are the only ones that can afford to keep replacing parts on it. This recent failure might not be related to the 09-10 VR problems, but it sure smells like it. For what its worth, I will be checking the part number for poops and giggles. I am sure you would agree, Polaris doesn't give these sleds away, actually they very proud of them. I only wish that pride was extended a little further beyond the sell. Any other 08 VR failures out there, or am I just lucky!! Thanks for listening.
