2010 Forum Ride Ideas?????????

And here's a listing on the Spruce Lodge @ Grand Mesa

http://www.coloradodirectory.com/sprucelodgegrandmesa/

judging by PP's post though I'm guessing this is the less than friendly to sleds lodge.

Is this correct PP?

I ride into the spruce a couple times a year.. no problems with sleds!! nice people. they own the alexander lodge too but i dont think it is open anymore

look for rental cabins near colbran.. they got a lodge w/bar and resturant.. camping and ride in and out!!

im sure me and brian are going again, and the drive for us was only a mere 18 hrs[1 way] to slo, so it doesnt really matter to us cheezheads were its at, just sign us up for 2,chris

I know Chevyboy wants us to stay at his motel in Walden. New wing and big hot tub and that town is full of bewbies :D OK Ralph, let me have it

HA HA! Yeah if you like hairy nerples and drawing a straight line between the two and having to cross through the, dare I say, the belly button!:eek:

Walden is Like K-town. The only nice bewbies will get ya 20 years in the clink.

Maybe we should get another ride going for SLO on a different weekend. Maybe something lower key though! No T-shirts, no raffles, no BS, just riding and partying :D

count me in for another weekend there.

I'm out for the forum ride this year. Snowmobiling will only last for a few more years until all the areas are shut down. Got to try to keep the GF a little longer.

lol, yep! Maid here at the bunkhouse motel (funkhouse!) in Guernsey just walked by with her daughter in training. Maid 5'2" 195, kid 5'2" 105! Mom, nice pleasant demeanor, kid, a just a cute little brat! lol

Get that woman on a sled Chris! Course then, you might never be able to get away. lol

WC is also not camper friendly as parking areas are very small.

There is a lot south/east of South Fork that is twice the size of Muddy Creek (rabbit ears for reference) that can accomodate camping. still a 15 mile or so trail riding to get to the goods... Beaver Creek would be another option for access to the Summitville areas.

I am down with SLO again as well. Last year was sweet! GM would be cool 2 but I may need to get with Ray to get used to riding cactus and chico first.

avoid the mesa!!

1st off, the GM does not get good snow!! Many on this 4M would be very dissatified with its terrain and depth. Its primarily cactus, lizards and leftover Indians......;)

As stated before the 2+1 lodges are very different in services.

GML is older but very reasonable. Super peeps, does the grooming and rents sleds.
Mesa Lakes lodge is 10min by truck, or 20 min by sled to the good riding.
That place is sweet, but sits just below the rim of the mesa requiring some extra drivetime.

Cederidge has all services, but still a trailer haul of 15min, no ride in or out.

The Spruce is a joke, the prices for cabins are way over-rated and worse every year. The restaurant is over-priced and will close with no notice at 600pm:eek::eek: don't say i told ya so!

There's no cell service up there, and if you loved ones call the spruce to leave a msg, dont plan on getting it. they sell fuel, but the wait for them to unlock the pumps can be a hour !! once they have your money, your not important to them. they arent anti-motorized (sometimes they rent sleds), that wasnt my point. expect snoshoers and greenies to be staying up there also, just taking up space. The entire operation is a tourist trap, imo.
The Spruce owner is greedy useless hag, imo.
i would rather sleep in my sled trailer, and often do!!

I've changed my vote, let's ride Irwin and crash at Corey's!!!
My peeps say South Fork is sweet, small town awesome locals.....

Man i'm getting allrevedup just thinking about it..

Lets not be so hasty just yet. Although a lot of people have liked the Pres weekend Idea some have not. Once we have a good list of ideas for places that will fill the bill, I will throw it up to a vote both for place and Date.

Whoa.. take it easy Ray. Deep clensing breath.....

I was just kidding about riding on the Mesa. No snow here in the desert. Just flat land and cactus. Can't be any good on the Mesa, cause you never see any other riders except at the trail heads. And that LONG drive is a killer. They must be too tired from the drive to unload. And in an area that big, it is hard to know where the good spots are if all you find is untracked snow. Sheeze...

I vote for the North Park Inn and Buff/Ears.

GM good, North Pk- Buff- Ears good, Snowies........good.

Q on sled with buds, adult bevs in the evening time.....all good.

I'm in wherever! (Buff Buff Buff)

BTW.........owners of the Spruce on GM............DON'T EVER GIVE THOSE @#%@#HEADS A FRICKIN' DIME OF YOUR $$.

I wouldn't piss on 'em if they were on fire!

............sorry, inside voices...........again........urp)

Let's Ride!!

Q

I have friends that have gone to GM in the middle of the winter. When they got there, they had to leave and drive to RE's. The snow is inconsistant. It can be great but do we want to take a chance on that?

No way they couldn't predict the weather? They could easily get hired at any of the local news stations as head of the weather dept then! ;)

That could occur anywhere at any time but when planning out a snow activity especially this far out there is always a chance of that happening. Ideally it would be held at whatever location had three feet of fresh fall the night before. :)

Sure, none of us can predict the weather, but other locations at higher elevation consistently have more snow than GM.

The average elevation on the Grand Mesa is over 10,000 ft.
Rabbit Ears Pass is 9400 ft.
Rabbit Ears Peak is 10387 ft.
Soda Mt. 10500
Radio Tower/ Buff 10400
Hahns peak, Farwell Mt.10800
Leon Peak (G.M.) 11236
There are still patches of snow lingering on the North faces and valleys on G.M.
The only snow left on Buff is on the east side of the Zirkels. Virtually none on the Ears.
Average snow fall.
Wolf creek 465 in
Rabbit ears 450 in
Grand Mesa 420 in
If consistant snow depth is the number one criteria, then Wolf Creek is the winner by far.
