2010 Forum Ride Ideas?????????

sooooo, if we are looking for San Juan snow, ride in ride out w/ food bar gas out the front door step, why don't we look into Lake City/Creede area?

Nice thing about this area is that there isn't any people, period. Also if you still like to ski or snowboard, I know the owner of San Juan Snow Cat operations down there and might be able to hook up a discount for some of the sickest BC skiing/riding in the state. And yes, I would be willing to give tours of the area and drinking establishments.

Can anybody post info on lodging at GM? Personally, I wouldn't wanna have to drive back and forth from Junction everyday. I remember driving to Powderhorn on weekends while I was attending Mesa State and it was a fairly long drive.

GM, Wolf Creek, Lake City/Creede areas all sound good to me as long as lodging isn't an issue. Wolf Creek would be towards the top of my list just because I've wanted to ride that area for a while now.

Regaurdless of if we do the 4M ride there or not, I will be hitting that area sometime next season.

bdubs could you post a link to a possible lodging area you have in mind?

As well as any others that have knowledge of the areas mentioned so far, Please provide the rest of the group some info to help everybody come to a concensus.

Also if you ride these areas please let us know if your willing to show people around as it will be the first time in a new area for many. Without guides in a new area it isn't much good to put together a ride there.

I hear you there brotha!! I know when my buds and I would drive there from campus two of us would have to take turns driving, and the third would have to make sure the driver stayed awake on the whopping 40 mile drive from the house.

just dont change the date 2/14 is perfect!!

The GM is big enough for all of us. Lodging is an issue, but camping is not.
2 lodges, one with a bar and a neg rep for treating us right.
And the other, GML that loves sledders, does the grooming, but does not have a restaurant or bar.

Between the 2 we could get 20+ cabins. The commute from town is 1hr coming from Grd Jnction and contrary to people that are completely uninformed and living in Kremlin, Grand Junction has everything that DENVER has in services and dealers. If your riding a XP for instance, and you need belts or a driveshaft or a motor--- you can hit a dealer in Rifle, Grand Junction or Montrose. So that's 3x the chance your sled make it thru the 4M ride!

If staying in Cedaridge or Mesa the commute is 20min. Trail system if top notch, 600sq miles of boondocking, something for every skill level. Just no lodge that is a sweet as SLO.
I would go back to SLO, imo cause we had a blast.

jeez...Ralphy relax ---maybe we should ride RE and crash at your house, huh?

Bwhahahahaha

But yeah I wouldn't object to SLO again although it might be nice to keep it moving around so each year someone from the group won't have to drive as far, and spreads the business around CO too.

But any lodge should definitely be sled friendly as we will be handing over a huge chunk of winter business and they should appreciate it.

To be able to ride from the place of lodging is a big plus as it makes it a lot nicer for parking issues, don't need to load/unload each day, etc. just makes it all the more enjoyable IMHO. Plus everyone gets to avoid drinking and driving a little easier.

I'm not knocking GM, just saying that it is a long drive to town after a hard day of riding. 40 miles and it is a slow road to drive. I've seen Ray's pics and the area looks nice. I personally don't have a camping setup so lodging is of the utmost importance.

I'm not plugging for RE/Buff either as that place will be a frigging zoo that weekend. I just wanna have a good time and not go broke doing it. SLO was a blast and the area is huge but it isn't fair to invite peeps to make that drive a second year in a row.

I'm voting for Wolf Creek or the Gunni/Irwin areas.

Also if you think about that, that's 40 miles times 4 trips in a weekend, 160 miles of driving plus whatever your drive to GJ is.

The lodges would be a better option and many folks don't have a setup for winter camping, particularly a lodge that offers camping too.

Ears? What other options are there?

Wow, I'm surprised to not hear the usual refrain of "Rabbit Ears, rabbit ears, Rabbit Ears...!"

Gonna take a whack at this - using the process of elimination:

- West of Vail is too far for Denver Folks (traffic)
- South of I-70 is to far for Summit/Vail/Steamboat/Aspen-GWood folks
- Snowys are too far for SoCo folks
- Mt. Limon is too far for GJ folks (although they tend to drive the most!)

The only option left is......R.A.B.B.I.T. E.A.R.S

;-)

MD.

More seriously - I'd say go where the snow is, and Wolf Creek, Molas Pass, GM, etc.. would take it. And, if the dates are set on a non-holiday weekend, you'll have a better chance of allowing the ski-area working/living/supporting folks to attend.

Sounds like the Mesa would be the best place.....lots of options for places to stay..plenty of active forum members for tour guides and there is camping available!

Oh sure, now you're coming to the ride  lol

I'm open to go anywhere, but I also thought SLO worked out great. Maybe we should get another ride going for SLO on a different weekend. Maybe something lower key though! No T-shirts, no raffles, no BS, just riding and partying :D

GM sounds like it has great amenities from an all-in-one point of view, but I didn't think it snowed in the desert? lol Wherever we go, It is nice to not have to trailer or drink and drive:beer;:o. Guess the trailering isn't that big a deal, but then you have to make sure the parking works. All the places mentioned sound like great sledding, but the place we go needs to work for a group of 50 to 100 people. The more the better. We ran out of room quick last year.

I know Chevyboy wants us to stay at his motel in Walden. New wing and big hot tub and that town is full of bewbies :D OK Ralph, let me have it

The big plus to the holiday weekend is that many folks have Monday off, so it allows for easier travel plans although for folks in the service industry they do not have it off. It's a toss up.

I'm expecting to get a list of places and dates together, list pros and cons (lodging, fuel, food, drink, ect) for the places and take a vote. Go from there. It's the best way that I can think of to handle it.

I'll leave the, "this place is better than that", for riding issues out of it as that is 100% opinion based unless of course it's an area that is extremely one way or another.

I'd definitely be in for that too.

LOL

not if it falls near Prez weekend since that is smack dab in the middle of the Annual 10 day Cross-Country Rep ride :beer;

Something about WC at that time of year.....the route to the top is not plowed or usually maintained so it would be 15 miles sledding each way before getting into the good stuff. Also no trail system with fancy markers and stuff like that....definitely not flatlander friendly.

WC is also not camper friendly as parking areas are very small.

Way to step up Shawn, I like the way you think and you'll do a fine job with the ride. If you need help with anything don't hesitate to ask...that voice inside your head :D J/K, I'll help if you need it, but I doubt you will. Last year was... well, mostly fun...it all worked out OK and good lessons learned. Don't care where the ride is, but I would like to see the funds kept a little closer to home this year and keep everything where everybody can see it is a good idea too ;)
I'd definitely be in for that too.

Your in:D I'll see about setting something up as the season approaches.

Geesh Tudizzle, you got ten days to ride and you can't swing by your home-states forum ride? Maybe your Cali buddies can reschedule this year:rolleyes::eek::p
