2010 Forum Ride Ideas?????????

Well, it's only the first week of July and I'm already thinking snow so I figured I'd drag the rest of you down with me :D

Anyway With last years ride being such a huge success I figured the 8 months of planning contributed to that in a big way by giving everyone plenty of time to pencil it in, get donations, etc. So I figured what the heck lets start kicking around some ideas for the 2010 ride.

So let's hear some ideas for location.

Date??? It seems like the President's Day weekend worked well for everyone last year. That'd probably be my first choice, but lets hear what everyone has to say.

Any other ideas?

I hope I'm not stomping on anyone's toes by trying to get this rolling for this year but I just figured it'd be a good time to start talking about it. And yes I am willing to pitch in anyway possible.

Grand mesa or wolf creek

I'd prefer not over valentines day weekend

Didja get cut off for a bit?:p;);)

I'm in, but not on GM. Too far away from emergency stuff. For example, parts, ER and such. Wolf Creek looks awesome and I'm dying to ride there but again, it is pretty far away from the same emergency stuff. We need to go somewhere where lodging, food and fuel will be affordable and not sky high. We got lucky with SLO last season cause Bushy did a stellar job negotiating.:beer;:beer;

Centrally located (NOT VAIL PASS!!)
for everyone attending seems fair and the Gunni/Irwin areas seem to be centrally located. Lodging seemed decent from what I read about two seasons ago. Mule said it was good riding.

I would say flattops. There are numerous locations to start and we could always meet somewhere like Triangle Park. Lots of beginner stuff that is groomed or you can jump in the skate park and get to the deep stuff. Lots of parking.

I would suggest Red & White (Vail) and the Holy Cross Powder Hounds could help host the event. The problem here is that reasonable lodging is 20 miles away and parking could get hairy. But we could go in from Vail and Hwy 131 at Muddy Pass.

I hear they don't even have power or flush toilets down there yet...for sure avoid that area way to primitive!

If you go to Gunnsion I bet Troy(alrevedup) would be willing to collect monies and set it all up

I vote for GM. It has everything you need. It was held there about 5 years ago, and it was extremely successful as I recall.

Are there any good climbs on GM? I took several peeps that ride GM regularly and they said they would trade GM for RE/BUFF anytime. That comment has me worried that GM isn't that great.

Sounds like the Mesa would be the best place.....lots of options for places to stay..plenty of active forum members for tour guides and there is camping available!

Oh yeah I forgot the camping option is a good one too. I personally prefer a cabin or hotel room when attending after hours social events w/shower cause I sweat like a race horse but that's just me. :D Also having the Bar and restaurant @ the lodge last year helped a bunch.

Riding from the lodge last year made it real nice, Helps deal with parking conflicts.

I personally am open to just about anywhere as long as there's reasonably priced lodging and its not Vail Pass. A variety of terrain for all abilities is also a big plus.

I know there was a lot of issues with the T-shirt thing last year, luckily I did not have any personally.

But if we want shirts again and to use them as a fund raiser, I would be willing to speak with my brother and his wife about doing them.

They have a 100% in house operation that does screen printing, embroidery, and vinyl graphics, so we could add some stickers, and Hats with your 4M name on them to the mix too. The cost of adding individual names to screen printed shirts is much higher than say an embroidered name on a hat.

I would set up a spreadsheet that show's who's ordered, who's paid, the price we are paying for the items from my brother's business and the amount from each being donated.

I would also provide copies of the original check to the decided on benefactor and also copies of the canceled check. I will gladly post all of these copies and provide hard copies upon request.

St. Marys is a level 2 trauma center with a chopper and 40 mins from G.M. An air-lift at the Ears, Buff or Hahns comes from Denver or Junction. Decent dealers for all brands of sleds in Junction. Hahn's Peak was considerably farther from both. As is Wolf Creek.
Food and fuel way cheaper than Hahn's Peak/ Steamboat.
G.M. is 4 times the size of the Ears and Buff.
It has far more climbs and WAY more big open parks and meadows. Also has a better system of trails for the flat landers.
Lodging is an issue but there is plenty of camping.
The Ears and Buff get better/ lighter snow as does Wolf Creek but the Mesa is not far behind most years.

Check out the Thunder Mountain/Grand mesa thread for pics.
